Did you know that New York
City tapped the Bronx River to supply citizens with drinking water in 1889? The population of NYC grew so
fast after the Croton Aqueduct began delivering fresh reliable water (1842)
that demand had exceeded what the Old Croton Aqueduct could supply. Interestingly in 1896, the lower Bronx
River was labeled an “open sewer” because industry and residences were dumping
their refuse into it.
Come bike along as Bronx native
Mike Gupta explains the rich and conflicted history of the river, and we
explore old remnants of the ill fated Bronx River Water System.

Water Calculator
Here's an online water calculator that you can use that is a bit more interactive and accurate than the one we did in class. Try it out to compare against your in-class data.
For example in our class activity I used about 94 gallons a day compared to the 1,245 gallons/day I use according to this calculator! Although this is a lot, I do feel kind of good that it is a lot less than the average American who uses 2000 gallons/day.
Post your results here and I'll give you a bonus point on your reflection.
