  1. This week we read an article about how some people in other country (africa) obtain their water and how much work they have to go through have the access to not even clean water, just water to survive with. when I say the video of how the women brought the water, I was in shock that they have to walk for their water and it was muddy water, The men are so lazy and dont help due to the beleif that the women do everything, thats not right, everyone should work for the women they deserve to rest while the men work. Now I have a new respect for thous in other country cause they dont have it as easy as we have it. All we need to do is turn a fosete and we have gallons and gallons of water at our bathroom door. They will go through hell if it means getting water to survive just a couple of days. Water the main source of life , with out water you will die, water isn't a necassity, IT'S REQUIRED>

  2. This week in class we discussed an article that showed us the scarcity of water in Africa. We learned that in these African Countries, water doesn't come to them through a pipe or anything, they have to go the water itself. In these countries, it is tradition that only the women go fetch the water, this means that women walk many hour long trips, carrying 50 pound buckets of water,(not always clean water)three times a day while the men stay under metal roofs drinking beer. This shocked me in so many ways because i would have thought since men are stronger they would carry the water. what also shocked me is that many children die from diarrhea-born diseases and that the only money they earn goes to treating this diarrhea diseases. In conclusion, i felt sad because we in the united states have water instantaneously and people from other parts of the world struggle to get this basic need fulfilled.

  3. This week we did a class activity on the Tragedy of the Commons. This activity was very interesting because it highlighted how humans share resources and if just a few people are greedy, the entire population suffers. The objective of the activity was to stay alive for five years. If one captured a fish from the local pond, this person's family survived for another year. However, there was only a maximum of sixteen fish per year, and the fish would reproduce once each year. My group in this activity was a group of five, so we had to be more careful when fishing. The first round went horrible for my group because one of our group members decided to take four fish to sell and make a profit. This person's greed resulted in our demise and we were dead by the fourth year. The next round we developed a plan to make profit, and survive. Each group member only took one fish, except for one group member that we allowed to take four. Each year we would only take eight fish as a group so that the next year we had sixteen fish again. This activity taught me that there is a way to preserve the commons that we have on Earth and still make profit. As long as we are considerate of each other and give one another a chance to use commons for personal gain, business and our natural resources can co-exist. This activity is connected to an article we read later in the week.

In class we read an article about a women in Africa that has to travel long distances up and down hills to retrieve water for her family. I found this interesting because it showed me how hard other people in the world work for their water. Water is a commons, and if I contaminate it with pollution it could eventually end up in another continent's shores. I have plenty of water to spare, and all I have to do to access it is turn a faucet. I don't think it's fair that a hard working women in Africa has to struggle everyday to get water that I take for granted. I didn't do anything special to deserve it. I was just born in a country that has a lot of it. This article encouraged me to cut down my water usage because there are other's on this Earth that need it much more than I do. If all humans don't do their part to conserve water, the class activity we did on Tuesday could become a reality.

I want to know how much water the average American should be using each day so that it does not run out. All of the national governments in the world should unite to fight careless water wasting. We should track our water usage, and be rewarded each time we use less water than the established average. This would motivate individuals to limit their water usage, and this extra water could be shipped to nations where water is scarce. I wonder if any countries would agree to this plan if it was proposed in the United Nations?

  4. this week we did an activity that focus on why people use many resources and why that effects are world. One thing that i learned was that people were becoming greedy with their resources when really you should be sharing with others to be sustainable and that is affecting are population. But the activity was about how to stay alive for 5 years. If you capture 1 fish you will live for another year and if capture more then 1 you could make profits but that will affect the people because their only 16 fish in the pond. But the activity was easy for my group because we were a group of 3.Also we read an article that had to do with how African women had to go to a specific place to get water and then carry 50 pound of water back home. The most important thing was that the water was not even fresh or clean it was dirty. In my believe i think any country that has problem getting water they should let a popular country to control them for they could have the access to get fresh and clean water.

  5. this week we readed an article that showed us about how people in africa dont have access to water, when i got to see the video clip it was depressing and sad because they dont have access to water like we do,they get it from muddy water which mean that is not clean water .I was in shock that woman's have to walk at least 5 miles to get muddy water to be able to survive , while woman's gets water mens are drinking beer under metal roof and being lazy and also they dont help due to their traditions. The part that i was really in shock was that many children are dying from diarrhea and diseases due to unclean water. In conclusion, i felt sad because many individuals in the united states and around the world are wasting a big amount of water while africa need water to survive.
