During this whole project I learned a lot about my community and what makes my community what it is. Some of the thing I learned would be that any one could make change in their community you just have to put your mind to it and let your voice be heard. In my opinion the best part of our project would be going around and giving people our survey about how they felt about the trash in our community and how it was affecting/making our environment look bad.My project compared to others because most had information on different type of citizens with different point of view and how they felt about the problem being addressed. I believe that after making this project anyone could make change because we came together to addressed different type of issues and some how they combined with each other fixing little part of everything and us making the problems be heard in our community. The chrome books impacted the way the projects were completed because since they were brand new they helped us finish and researched what we needed faster to accomplished our goal of making our environment better in the allowed time.
ReplyDeleteIn the completion of the project ive learned many new things. ive learned to get in contact with organizations that can be some help in fixing parts of my community. one organization was the community board district. We requested some help to get a few information on different locations that are abandoned or constructed areas in my community. I was most proud of how my groups presentation was going during the expo and the amount of good feedback we were given. I feel that there is a way that people in my community can find out with the information my group and i found during the project ,all they need is some help on figuring out what to do to help there community. During the project i enjoyed using the chrome books because it allowed my group to work together and also it allowed MR Fox to give my group comments.

This past 2 weeks I have Learned a lot about waste in New York city and the things that I founded interesting was that we went to the social justice expo to Present are hard work that we put in to it and it went fabolous because we were presenting our project to people and It was kind of fun and very interesting because I was like a teacher telling other people about our project and I felt proud of my self in many ways. but It paid off because we were going to different tables and listening about there project as well and most of the project I went to see they were very important for the community and important for the people because It had to do with police. I have learned that if we don't stand up or speak back there will be no change at all in our community. I'm very proud of myself and I'm proud of my peers too because we did an amazing job by presenting and standing up for our community and I feel that we going to change the problems that we see in our community because we have the voice and the power to change stuff if we put mind to it. After completing this project we feel that we can change the problem that our community has and we are gonna able to fix it. The Chromebooks was actually a formal way to go over there and present our project because most of the students over there they had to carry charts to present there project and we were using our Chromebooks witch it was more formal and more and cool. We found this project very interesting and very important because i have learned a lot in many ways.

What I learned about completing this project was how many problems there were going on around my community I wasn't aware of. I found problems that ranged from small easily fixed problems to life threatening and dangerous. Most of these problems weren't really noticed because they weren't always being looked for by people in the community. There were pot holes, abandoned lots and buildings, falling apart houses and buildings. What I was most proud about this project and about my group was actually finding out about these problems and pointing them out, also trying to find out how to possibly fix them or find solutions to these problems. And when i really felt the proudest was actually being able to present to the public in the expo and inform people from my neighborhood and from outside as well. After completing and presenting the projects I believe someone from the many people we presented to became very aware and concerned on the topic and possibly did some research on the problems we spoke about to see how they can help or in other cases possibly look for those problems in their community and try to solve them. The Chrome books were a great contribution to the success and completion of these projects. They helped us do the majority of the researching and preparation for these projects. They were very important throughout the whole process and helpful, we couldn't have done this projects successfully without the Chromebooks.

In this completion of our project I learned how to get in contact with the community boar. I also found it interesting that a lot of people actually care about construction around their neighborhood and will like to do something about it like us. Also i leaned that their other places like Brooklyn that have need construction that are worse then ours in Washington Heights in the social justice when we was their people were comparing our neighborhood to theirs. I was mostly proud of my group we all worked really hard on this project to make it good and also like the pictures we took of places that need to be reconstructed. Where i feel like we needed to improve was being more specific in what we really want to make in places that are abounded. Also in our group that we all had time to talk and present it our project.
ReplyDeleteMy project compare to other people project as we all want a change we want people to try and make a change to hear out our problem and to do something about it. for example I know some people where fighting to be able to used their phone at school, others to stop, stop and frisk. After completing this assignment I feel like we could make a change because now we have a lot of information that can help my group and I get in contact with different organization like the community board in my community and request for some ways that change can be made in my community. The Chromebook helped me a lot with making this project, also help to present our presentation to other people so they could see the problems we are facing.

Well i got to learn so many things about our community because i never knew their were many people that cared about trees. Another thing that i learned about are community is that Washington height don't look like other neighborhood from downtown Manhattan because they got better looking trees in their community and all are project was about making a change in our community. I was mostly proud was that everybody in my group work really hard to make this great project and we also communicated with each other when we didn't know what to do. One thing we had to improved on was that sometime we got to lazy so nobody did work for a whole day and we could of done better in that. In my opinion i think that the people project from wheels was better because it showed we had to dig deep to get a lot of information about are project but the other people that presented in the gallery look like they got their information from the internet. I think we are going to make a change because we already in the process of adopting a tree and build a fence to protect it from garbage and other stuff. I really liked using the Chromebooks because it made us look sophisticated and it led for people to come to our table to see what are project was about.

DeleteThe most interesting thing I learned about our community is that there are so many places/lots that need to be fixed. But the thing is that its going to cost a big amount money to be able to fix all of these lots. That our environment needs to be fixed, because we have a lot of problems in our community but we should focus on the construction to be able to not have risks of the rest of our community being effected.
ReplyDeleteIn my perspective I think that our project was great that nothing needed to be fixed. But the thing that we really needed to fix was that when we presented our project, we needed to speak more. I think I and Felix needed to speak more because Rayme spoke to much. As a group we all needed to speak equally.
Compared to the other groups at the expo I think we did really well. Since we were the only groups that had computers, so ours looked more advanced. But due to presentations I guess the other groups did better since they had more of a explanation. They were able to speak about their topic much more like their groups had a lot of information which they used in their presentation.
In my opinion I think we can actually change our community, since we already presented to others. We can be able to go around the neighborhood to present our topic to others. Like that our community has our perspective on construction. Then towards the end they can give us their perspective on the topic and if they decide to help us out. We could create a group to demonstrate a change in our community. The use of the chromebooks was okay since sometimes while we would be presenting they would either freeze for awhile, which would end up messing up our presentation.

In completing the my Photovoice I learned that you don really need to be a part of a research group to find environmental flaws in our community but just a open mind and will to make a difference. I was fascinated that my community members were able to organize our self's with research and evidence to perform spectucualtely during the expo. I´m proud that my peers were confident in their findings and all were prepared for it because they made our reputation as a unified community precede its self. Also on myself because I was nervous presenting to myself but I actually worked it out and did very well by myself. Compared to others project at the expo I felt intimidated because others had presentations with projectors(catching many attention),singing, and louring others with bracelets and other souvenirs. I feel empowered after this project because I know see even though it finished I still have the ability to notify about certain community problems if I felt like it and could take necessary actions myself. My Chromebook basically carried out my presentation for me and if it wasn't for it, I probably wouldn't been able to present. It enabled to me work during class and continue my work and hopefully we can use it later on in the future for more activities.
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting thing I learned during this project was about the different tree species in New York and and how to identify trees by observing their leaves and bark. I also thought it was very interesting that you can tell how long the roots of a tree extend by looking at how far the branches of a tree extend.
ReplyDeleteI'm most proud of the survey questions and how Jovany and I organized the data into bar graphs. They looked very professional and nice. Something that could have been improved was the background information in the slideshow. One of the slides had a lot of text that could have been broken up into bullet points.
My project seemed really unimpressive compared to others that I saw. Many people came prepared with posters, well done surveys, pamphlets, videos and even projectors. All I had was a computer with one slideshow.
Not only do I feel that we can make changes, but I think it is up to us to make the change. Although making a presentation and perhaps making some people aware of the issue was nice, most people will not do a thing about the problem. They sit there and nod their heads as you go through the slides in your presentation. We are the ones that care enough to go out there and actually build the street guards and to plant the trees.
The Chromebooks were instrumental in completing this project. Having everything saved "in the cloud" made it really hassle-free because I was able to access my work from any computer and I also was able to work on it from home and share it with my group members.
MY most interesting thing I learned about our environment and community while completing this project was the secrets our community holds and how the community really is and how its not really important to the community board. But also the most interesting thing I found was the opinions of people around our neighborhood and how they did not really care about the construction going on. I think the most part I am proud of is the pictures because I feel that those pictures made a big impact on the people that viewed my project. It made a great impact and how they saw the construction. Something I could improve on is doing a few more surveys to really see how the community feels over all whether or not construction and other issues is really a problem. I think that over all our projected could have done way better because others projects had more things to show like posters and people doing thing to help change their problem. But overall our project was still better then most people because the way they presented showed they had no interest in their problem. I think as a whole we are able to make changes because there is so many resources we can use to show that we can make change, especially since we have the power and show people that we do care about many things and problems although many people don´t realize it. The chromebooks were a great use to us because it helped make this project happen especially since we can access the project so easily and all of us can acces the project as a whole. Also the way we can work during class helped us because most people would be to lazy to do the project during their personal time. Over all this project was a major success that turned out to be a good contribution to creating change.

Something I found very interesting was a group that was advocating for the stop of kids with weapons in foreign countries. It was very interesting the presentation they provided to the public. I really liked the fact that they was selling cookies to help an organization that would assist them. I also liked it the way they used the technology they were provided with. They were asking people kindly to please sign up and support them. Every other group was interesting as well but that group is the one that amazed me the most. When it came to our group what I feel like i did the best was the actual presentation. I feel like i did a very good job presenting to the people that stopped by. I add it a lit of bit of my own knowledge and also my own perspective. What I feel I could've done better was adding more pictures to show people more visual examples. Visual examples are always good. With the amount of data and information we had, pictures would’ve really helped more. Our project compared to other by using the same scientific procedure. Besides that other projects had things to give out and large surveys. They also had a presentation board. I would’ve liked some of those things for our group. After completing this project I feel that I at least have shown the public an issue in my community. Before they saw my presentation, maybe they did not know about the lack of tree issues in Washington Heights. Me and my group feel that we have already made a small change, but we are ready to make a bigger one.The Google chrome books really helped this project a lot . Without them we would’ve not been able to do research individually. Also the entire class would’ve worked a lot slower without the Chrome Books. This project would’ve never existed without the Chrome books, they were a great source of information.
ReplyDeletethe thing that was most interesting to me was that how the government would spend more money at areas with a lot of big bushiness but would spend a little in low income areas, the part that i like was when we were done with are project because it shown the hard work from even one in there groups, well everyone had every different topics but most of there's were about groups of people and how there lives are effected by doing something to help them with there live well we just wanted to fix something about a community that looks bad ,well it's only the beginning of the project we still haven't hit the core of it it made thing faster for use to do because we only needed to log into are WHEELS account and all of are links that we needed and not spend time logging into everything one at a time
ReplyDeleteThe photo voice project helped me learn something really important about my community and environment. I learned that becoming aware of the issues surrounding my environment is as important as the people in our community. Living in a community comes with many responsibilities for the individual within it. It’s not only the employers who are suppose to clean the area around you, but helping out and contributing with community service if you really think your environment stability is important. I've realized throughout my research that it’s up to me to begin a change in my community.
ReplyDeleteI’m very proud of the work I produced and presented. It was a little rough especially considering the fact that my group members weren't as involved in the project I expected them to be. I felt like I did most of the work, so I had a little more pressure on me because I wanted the project to be the best it could be. Even though it was a bit unfair for me, I still gain a load of knowledge from all the work I did. I was able to present more fluently than I have ever spoken in a presentation. I had many things to say throughout the presentation in the Social Justice Expo. The grade was definitely fair and deserved. Though I wish I could have done much more to prove and show my point.
The Social Justice Expo was an amazing experience. I felt that I improved in the way I presented and organized the structure of what I was discussing. People looking forward to hear about the issue looked really convinced and had questions that I had answers to, some even enjoyed the absurdness of the stats shown from the people’s response. Many other people in the Social Justice Expo had other items to offer to attract people, or fun activities that had to do with their projects. If we would have done something like that, we could have dragged in more audience. Since it was our first time, it was a great learning experience and for the next time we’ll come up with better idea’s to bring to the event. The Chromebooks were an amazing opportunity for us to present our presentation well and sophisticated. I am very grateful for the opportunity we had using the Chromebooks. without the Chromebooks we wouldn't have research in depth or learned much more, but because of it we were able to do much more.
Overall, After learning everything we now have great knowledge of, it’s time that we actually do something with the educated mind we have. It’ll be useless to become aware of something important and not commit to what we were presenting people, also very hypocritical to not do anything about the problem when we discussed resolutions. Now that our classmates have learned so much, I think we all can make change by educating others and dragging them into the project in order to repair the destruction of our community.
During the Photovoice project we learned that taking action in order to maintain and improve the environment we live in is necessary through teamwork. Making a difference in our community is impossible unless we all collaborate on the same idea. I believe that our presentation was good but we needed to talk and express ourselves more fluently during the presentations. Our presentation was unique compared to the rest because most of the were on poster boards so we represented a new way to present and express our voice. As a result of the presentation I think we really can make a difference because so many people are willing to help and try to influence our community in a positive way. Trees are seen and located everywhere around the city and world which makes the damage to them important since they contribute to much more than just our oxygen supply. The chromebooks made our project to become more powerful because people were attracted to them and our job was only to express our concern for the health of public trees.

Last week in the Social Justice Expo I had a really great time and learned so much from other people who took part in it too. What I found most interesting is what I learned which was working together made it possible to create not only a better photo voice project yet a better action plan for our community. I noticed our community is in need of repair more then you can truly tell. when my team mates and I shared among each other our ideas we made such a great project with wonderful research and in formed information yet as well good actions plans and how we want to help with the trees in our community. I think my team mates and I worked very well with each other and we collaborated well with each other, and were very well in formed on our topic. We also had a clear idea on what we wanted our next step to be. However we should of all talk and shared during the presentation and should of have a little more enthusiasm. we did managed to do very well and get a good grade on our project. I can truly say the chrome books allow us to work in a more efficient way and it allowed also to be more professional when we presented, so much thanks to the donors. In the end I did learned hat we have to take actions in our community and stop doing what is negative and will effect it and instead helping it and taking care of it. Our environment gives us way more then beauty and we must fix the damage we have done to it, and stop what is wrong. I'm very excited to built tree guards and start more of my own action plan in our group (trees.

Washington Heights needs a lot of reparations for its major issues that we interact with on a daily basis. These issues consist of major waste issue, plant and tree care issue, construction damages and the completion of necessary unfinished repairs that are hazardous to life if left unattended. Though these are serious issues they are interesting in a way because these issues have been in our community for years as though nobody cared, so thinking about how these situations came to be are interesting because there are many people in this community but clearly there aren't enough to make a change. With the outcome of my hard work, a prezi presentation, a manipulation of the world I see everyday and turning it into something much greater than an idea, an embryo of change. Though the prezi was a success, the way I gathered the information to make the prezi could have enhanced the quality of the presentation tenfold. Though my research was a struggle for me in the process of making this project, i felt like I wasn't the only student that had a presentation that was full of the righteousness of the youth in troubled communities, there were many other projects that had a large quantity of emotion and overflowing with reality. I felt like there were other people that cared as much as I did for a problem they felt was worth fighting for. The same way I felt connected to the people around me at the expo, I felt like my classmates and I were a team, part of a movement that was in our hands to lead, like we were the leaders that have made change and as if we’re only getting started. The chromebooks were awesome! They were an amazing resource to have in class and I can’t wait to further advance in environmental science with the help of the chromebooks. They have really made this entire experience at least a thousand times easier in terms of resources needed to actually completing the project.
