This week Elizabeth Royte visited our class to speak to us about the book "Bottlemania". I was so interested in learning about her book and research because I do want to become a journalist. I love to hear about the journeys and the adventures that the authors go through to find the data they need to write the books they became famous for. I did ask a lot of questions I was asked by my friends to stop but I do find it fascinating and wanted to know more about it. She told us about how she did internet research for this book “ Bottlemania” but for her new book “Garbageland” which she actually went to other countries to see the landfills where the garbage goes to.
This week Elizabeth Royte came to visit to speak to us about her book. In the blogpost we had to ask 2 questions that she would answer. She told us that "Bottlemania" was the second book she wrote. In order for her to get the information for this book she did some research, but she also traveled. She showed us a water bottle that she's been having for 15 years.
This Week in Environmental Science class, I wasn’t able to listen to Elizabeth Royte talk and answer questions because I was at a soccer game 6th period. However, this week we learned about the different types of techniques water companies and other companies use to promote their product to the audience. I really never noticed the techniques types until this week and I came to realize the techniques are actually used in all commercials that appear on T.V. If the techniques work on bad products like bottled water, therefore, it can promote people to drink tap water.
This week in my environmental class we learned how some advertisements use some techniques like bandwagon, emotional appeal, glittering generalizing, and much more. They use these techniques to make you buy a particular product. In my opinion it does influence most people to buy their products, because an advertisement has this gist and sympathy to conquer others and take advantage so people would buy their products. Sometimes advertisement gives so much fantasy to a product that it catches everyone s attention.
In addition, this author called Elizabeth Royte came to visit WHEELS, and she talked about her experiences about the book she wrote called “bootlemania”. She’s planning to make more books about bottle water and tap water to influence people. She talked about how she met some experts that gave her more important information about tap water, she also advice us how we should use water in a proper way. Therefore, Elizabeth told us how in some countries there’s not enough water for people to drink and use it for their basic needs. Elizabeth was pretty nice to answer some of our questions we had and give us important facts, and information that were pretty interesting.
In this week, we began to learn different techniques that bottled water companies use to promote their sales. We learned such things as band wagon in where everyone does it because others are doing it. We also learned snob appeal. In where companies say that only the rich and powerful use it. On top of that the author of the book, “Bottle mania” came to speak with us about the different things that happen with tap water. One thing that I had learned was that states below New York, they get their water from other states that have reused it over and over again. So basically their getting the backwash of everyone else.
This week, we learned that there are different ways of advertisment. One way is emotional appeal these are the tyoes of commercials that makes you feel a certain way like the ASPCA and the St. Judes that make you feel sad. Another commercial is Bandwagon these are the types of commercial that send out the message "Everyone else is doing it, you should too" We talked about these types of advertisement to see how do bottled water companies get their consumers. They make advertisement that capture the attention of the reader or viewer. Another thing that happened this week was Elizabeth Royte author of "BottleMania" came to our class room and spoke about her experiences and we also asked questions. Its awesome on how she researches an area where our water is kept and after researching she visits the area and sees how they test it and after she actually drinks it, she said she did that when she went to a place where they transform waste water into clean drinking water.
This week Elizabeth Royte came to our house to talk about her book, which is about how tap water is better than bottled water. We have also been focusing on tap water.I learned how Tap water is much regulated and cleaner and less expensive than consuming bottled water.
What I mostly found interesting was that producing bottled water affects the environment because bottled water are not really being recycled because they is not biodegradable. I also found interesting that most of the bottles particles end up in the oceans or bodies of water. Why are water bottles after being recycled are sent to India instead of having a recycling here in the city?
This has changed my views because it makes me not want to buy water bottles so that it doesn't hurt my environment. It makes me want to carry my own bottle which I can refill at all times.
This week Elizabeth came to our class to talk about how companies work in order to get their water. we also learned what strategies companies use in order to influence and persuade people to buy their products such as bandwagon, emotional appeal, glittering etc . In order to get water companies such as poland spring go into a neighborhood water and take it and end up selling the same water back to the people. People protested this because they felt that it was not legal to take their waters to sell it back to them. I read in an article that 80% of bottled water is not actually recycled its actually thrown into the water and i also read that 1.5 millions tons of waste is produced by bottled water . I found this to be interesting because it shows how one affect can lead to many effects and in this case bottled water can cause a huge affect on future organisms.
This week we worked on our "water promotion" project in school. We created our slogans and shared ideas that would help us create our project. We learned and used techniques that would help us promote the use of tap water rather than the use of bottled water.
Elizabeth Royte author of the famous book, "Bottlemania" came to our school to share her thoughts on the ideas that could help the environment and decrease pollution. Royte addressed that the on going problems of plastic wastes dumped in the Pacific ocean have increased the pollution throughout the world. These plastic wastes end up in gyres full of other abiotic factors that do not belong there. This affects us in varies ways. For example many fishermen have found plastic wastes inside the fish that we eat. This shows how abiotic factors affect biotic factors. Royte believes that the bottle bill should go up in order to increase the amount of people that would be motivated to recycle.
This week Elizabeth visited our class rooms,To discuss her book "Bottle Mania" which is about tap water vs bottle water , we also discussed some issues with the new York city tap water and how the hot water from the tap contains more led than the colder water from the tap. As a New York city water consumer I didn't really think about where our water came from or how much water we as a city have, now I realize that there is a lot more to water then just the tap. I was shocked when I learned that bottle water is basically the same as the water we get for free in the tap , why should we pay for bottle water when we can drink the same quality in the comfort of our homes. I really thought bottle water was better than tap but turns out its the same quality. This week I also learned different appeals used for advertisements the one I found most effective was comparison. The reason why I believe comparison to be more effective is because it exemplifies why your product is better than the competition and also shows quality and quantity better than the competition.
This week in Environmental science Elizabeth Royte came in our class to talk about her book "Bottlemania.” "Bottlemania" is about how tap water is good to drink. In class we have talked about how water companies are selling our water. Almost 40% of bottle water come from municipal water source (tap water).
This is important to my life because bottle water, in my community are not being recycle. This means that water companies are making more bottles. NYC is one of the few states in America that has a bottle bill. This means that if people return their water bottle, they get five cents back.
In conclusion tap water, has the same quality as bottled water which is why people should stop buying bottled water. I now take a bottle around everywhere I go, and just fill it up with tap water.
This week everyone in the 12th grade managed to meet Elizabeth Royte, a well known individual that is trying to stop the production of bottles of water. I guess it would take alot of time and effort to stop the productivity of making bottles of water. Since the fact that everyone buys a bottle of water because some of them think it is fresh and it uses a variety of techniques. In reality, this "Fresh Water" is actually tap water being purified or refurbished. Some of these techniques are Bandwagon, when everyone else is doing this, so you should do it too. Snob Appeal when the coolest and richest people use a certain product, and Individuality when the product makes you feel unique. My entire class also had the opportunity to create a somewhat advertisement that can include a poster, a rap or a video about tap water but these must've included a slogan and some facts about tap water.
This week in Environmental Science we focused on how companies advertised their bottled water. We looked at many types of techniques that helped advertised their bottled water.
In class we focused on the techniques many factory owners used to help sell their water. One technique that i find that is very convincing was emotional appeal. I do believe that this is the most convincing because it has happened to me in real life. I got my dog through ASPCA , we got the dog there because of the sad commercials they play on television about how they were neglected and beaten. I did not want to get a dog from another person i wanted to get one of the ones from ASPCA because i felt bad for them. Another technique i felt is very convincing is Testimonial which states that " famous people talk about why they love the product. One example we used was proactive. Many famous people use proactive and many people look up to famous people, if famous people are getting it why not get it myself? These things help companies sell , they know how to work with the customers.
This is important to me because it affects on what i buy and from who i buy it from. This helps u see why people get stuff, also makes u be independent. Just because some one got it doesnt mean i need to have it. This week was a very good week in Science class i learn many techniques companies use to be successful.
[Adonis Grullon]This week In environmental science class Elizabeth royte came to our class to tell us how many companies use different strategies to convince us to but their product. One strategy that water bottle companies uses to convince us to buy their product is emotional appeal by telling us that if we drink water it would make us healthier or look younger. Many companies uses the word pure to convince people to buy their water instead of drinking tap water that is free and is the same water that water bottle uses and make us believe that is water that comes from watersheds. One thing that I liked from Elizabeth visit was that she answer almost all my question and that she explain that most plastic bottle don't get recycle and end up in the ocean.this affect the fishes in the ocean since they are eating plastic.

This week Elizabeth Royte visit us to talk about how bottle of water affect us and how tap water is a good choice to drink and be healthy, Also she answer half of our question, and we learned a lot of new things, that we could use in class. In class this week we learned more things about bottle of water, and Mr. Fox informed us that we were going to do a project about how bottle of water and tap water are 2 different compound, by doing that project we learned a lot of different thing by checking and seeing how others know the difference about bottle of water and tap water.

Mr. Fox informed us that all those water bottles end in the ocean and remain their till they create a garbage patch, which is a patch that is half the size of the United States. She also answered some questions that students asked her. I didn’t ask because most of my questions I’ve already did research on or already got the answer to. One thing i found most interesting about Elizabeth Royte is her water container, she said that she has about 15 years with it. This shows that she is very preservative.
