  1. These two days i have learned that we must protect our natural resources or else our future generation will have a world so unsastainably due to our wreakless behavior. We must protect the world by cutting down on transportation, use your bikes to get around, if your to lazy then dont bother leaving your house. We can also cut down on electrical use by turning off the lights in a room when you leave it. Our future generation needs our help to keep the world clean and safe for everyone.

  2. I found this topic interesting because it talks about how to keep lke your enviroment clean and what to do to w ork on that. For example i learn that if you wanna keep wanna help out the enviroment you could by turning off the water while you brushing your teeth , also by taking less hour showering, and by recycling alwaysz all paper and bottles. This information that i learn today in school relates to me in real world because i usually dont recyle alot, also i take forever in the shower and i let the water run while am brushing ma teeth. Also i be leaving the lights all on in ma house hardly never turn them off till i go to sleep. So i feel like this is something i gotta work on more.

  3. The first two days of school was alright. after being in WHEELS for three years , i expected that we would get straight to work.I found this topic of sustainability interesting as it informed me to what sustainability is[not overusing nature so that future generations of people can appreciate nature and have the same amount if not more so they can practice sustainability as well] and how we as individuals can help. this made me think of how I personally could help in my own home.In fact,as soon as i got home i turned on my a.c.and then turned it off and opened my window instead because i thought of our lesson in class today.

  4. During the past two days, the introduction to sustainability has been the main focus during our class. However, sustainability is often associated with many other underlying topics that help strengthen sustainability to a higher extent. Out of the broad spectrum that sustainability has to offer, I found that the topic of preserving water stood out to me the most. In order to live, water is one of the key fundamental items that one needs. Without it, mankind would cease to exist. In a planet surrounded by water, why is preserving such a main issue? Throughout my adolescent years, school, along with commercials, newspapers, etc., has been focusing time and time again on the preservation of water. Now that I am old enough to understand the idea of preserving water, I still ask myself ‘why?’ In class, my peers and I were able to brainstorm on ideas where one can take easy steps to guarantee a decrease in water level usage. Some of them were taking shorter showers, not letting water run for an abundant amount of time if it is not being put to use, washing clothes by hand, and even cooking with less water. I have come to realize, that upon my surroundings, these suggestions are somewhat absurd or a taboo of the sort. Many individuals feel that taking these steps are too much work or too much of an excessive change. But, I also noticed that the individuals who do take the liberty upon themselves to practice less water usage are mostly adults who have a strong interest in the environment. Maybe the decision to better the environment comes with age; maybe not. Nonetheless, the battle for preserving water is ongoing. I know it is hard to change a lifestyle routine, but there are many things you can do to motivate yourself, such as beginning this new lifestyle with a friend, becoming more involved in the topic of preserving water through knowledge, or getting your family involved. After completing this week, I feel more aware of my usage of water. Now that I am aware, I plan to take actions that will result in the depletion of water usage. With all said, I still would like to know, if the majority of the bodies of lands are surrounded by water, why is preserving it such a necessity?

  5. Throughout out the past two days of school, we have been discussing the word sustainability and what it means to each individual. From my perspective sustainability means to maintain and balance out at a certain level, avoiding desolation from happening to nature. I believe that sustainability is a very powerful and meaningful word because it’s not something everyone follows around the world. People don't think about their environment as much as they should because they may think that nature is not as important as everything else they do throughout life. The word sustainability causes me to develop curiosity, such as have I been sustainable throughout life? Are enough people being sustainable and trying to balance out the resources Mother Nature provides? Something that has come to mind is that everything comes to an end at one point. Nothing in the world produces forever if not taken care of properly. The world is meant to be balanced, probably something people have problem doing. For example, like the balance between light and day. Light so that we can do work and night so we can rest. This goes to many things throughout life. Sustainability I would say involves helping the world become a better place, spreading the word by constructing productive plans or projects that may inspire people to learn and love what nature offers to the world. To start, people should recycle more often at home, stop littering garbage outside just because you’re too lazy to walk up at the end of the block to the public trash cans provided. Unplugging devices in your house such as your computer when your not using it, maybe the charger of your phone when you decide to leave it plugged after you finished charging your phone completely. It’s the little things we do that can make a big difference and help out the world become a more sustainable place. In fact I question myself today if balance is the key to making things better for not only the world but for you as well.

  6. The topic of sustainability is an interesting one because it is one that relates to everyone, in the sense that we are all responsible for the Earth. It is also an interesting topic because it is one that can relate to the reasons and effects of global warming. In class we learned that sustainability includes being responsible in the way we use resources in order to maintain these resources available for the later generations. We also thought about rules for sustainability such as reducing plastic usage, using items such as reuseable bags, and turning off lights when they are not being used. What I found the most interesting was that sustainability means maintaining the Earth for the use of future generations. This is the responsible thing for us to do because if we continue abusing our resources one day there may not be any left. The idea of maintaining the Earth is also interesting because reducing the use of different products can benefit one financially. I wonder what does the government do in order to promote a sustainable lifestyle, and whether or not they do want citizens to live sustainably. Learning about sustainability made me realize that a lot of people in my own community don’t actually do what’s best for the environment. An example of this is taking bags at grocery stores when it’s really not necessary. I also want to learn more about the effects of not living a sustainable lifestyle and whether or not taking actions such as taking shorter showers really benefit the environment.

  7. Sustainability is a key component to a society and after the two classes we had this week, it became clear to me why sustainability is something that should be kept an eye on and maintained. Sustainability is interesting to me because it relates to many things that are involved in our personal lives. For example, sustainability can be determined by the way you interact with or nature, the balance of your government, the economy or your society, and even the lifestyle of your family. Although you live in an industrial society nature plays an important role in your environment, and you need to keep a decent (if not perfect) balance of it. Furthermore, think back to all the times you had a plastic or paper wrapper, how many times did you hold onto it and wait until you run into a recycling bin? How many times do you even run into a recycling bin at all? The answer to these questions can help you determine how sustainable you live. Sustainability has made me begin to wonder, how people can live in a world they themselves can’t sustain? What can people do to make a mass movement toward the sustainability of our community, our city, our state, the east coast, the country? And maybe, if we try hard enough, the world…

  8. The topic Sustainability is interesting because it relates all things that has to do with earth. Sustainability has to do with recycling and recycling anything you use like bottles, papers, plastic etc.that way our environment will be neat.In order to live sustainable you must have our environment clean and recycle anything you use like bottles, paper etc. I learn that in order to keep our environment clean we must recycle. To live sustainable you must save energy like when you finish taking a bath you must turned off the lights and that will helps our environment in many ways.

  9. In the past two days I have learned about sustainability and how it can affect the world. To me sustainability is about taking care of our recourses now so that past generations may be able to use these recourses we use today. I find sustainability interesting because all we have to do to keep this world going is just take care of it but even that is to hard for us. For example to keep this world from being trashy, all we have to do is start recycling to make use of those items that were already used. Some people recycle but its not so enforced so nobody really cares. I think that if recycling is enforced more these global warming and trashy neighborhood problems would be less of a problem. This made me think about how if we come together as a community we can start making a difference in our neighborhoods and in the world by recycling, not littering, turning off the water while u brush your teeth and so on. I wonder why the government wouldn't make a bigger deal out of this knowing that this is important to keep this world alive?

  10. These past two days i have learned that sustainability is the process of recycling resources and saving energy and is also the balance Of everything nessary for the earth. I found this topic intersting because now in class i can learn how to be more sustainable. I also found it intersting because now that i know what sustainability is i also
think that were not not being sustainable and that is what's causing global warming. Something else i
found intersting in class is that if we get bags from
store dont throw it away just save it and everytime
you go to the store take the bags you saved. How
will this help be more sustainable if the bag
company Could just keep making more bags. This
made me change my mind because now i think we
should continue to keep putting plants on the roofs
So that we could have more greens in the streets
and also made me want to recycle more. This also
made me change my mind because since i waste
alot of electricty i am going to try and keep the lights
off. I was wondering if not being sustainable causes
    global warming?

  11. In these past two days we have started to go over the topic of sustainability. I define sustainability as society trying their best to balance things equally among the economy, environment and social to make the earth better for us and future generations. Sustainability looks like being involved in groups and volunteering to our community to make the earth better by doing things such as recycling and planting trees/plants. I found this topic interesting because right now we’re suffering from global warming. Global warming affects the earth and us because is damaging our ecosystem and is changing the weather. This topic has changed the thinking about my community by wanting to be more involved in the nearby parks and wanting to recycle more at home and disconnecting outlets when they’re not needed. In my country although we’re also going through a recession I want factories to be more GREEN and decrease the air pollution caused by machines. Furthermore, I want to know more details about sustainability such as what does it mean to live and be sustainable? What are all the things my country and community could do to fix this problem? Indeed, I’m interested in this topic because I want to be inform of things I can do and more involved for our future generations could enjoy the earth and the materialistic things as much as we do at the moment.

  12. The first two days of class exposed me to the idea of sustainability. I found this topic to be interesting because all people need to live in a sustainable manner to ensure that the Earth will be an inhabitable place for humans for generations to come. This idea that everyone is responsible for the future of those younger than us and those yet to be born makes me think that I possess a lot of power in this world.
On Thursday's class my classmates and I viewed a slide show that revealed different aspects of sustainability. Images ranged from recycling propaganda to detailed charts. At this point I did not understand what sustainability was, but I learned that sustainability involved reusing materials and avoiding wastefulness. On Friday's class my classmates and I created charts that defined sustainability in our own words. My group came up with a definition that stated that sustainability is not wasting non-renewable resources, and it is also maximizing the amount of renewable resources humans have. This topic of sustainability and my group's ability to define it was very interesting.
I believe that humans in this day and age are not as sustainable as they can be. This would explain why defining sustainability isn't something we can do easily. Living sustainably is so out of our element that many of us can't explain what it truly means. These thoughts that I had made me ponder whether or not I was living a sustainable life on this planet. To be honest I do not live a sustainable life. I think I waste a lot of water, and electricity, but on the bright side of things I don't litter. So environmental science class the past two days showed me that I have to change my wasteful ways. However, if I change my ways I won't accomplish much, unless I have others that join me. This makes it clear that sustainability is a group effort. Now that I have identified that I have a problem with living sustainably I have to find ways to address it. How can I minimize my water use, but still take care of my hygiene? How does my use of electricity harm the Earth? How will environmental science class improve my ability to live a sustainable life?

  13. These past two days, we’ve learned about sustainability where we had to write down our own definitions of what we think sustainability might mean. I found the topic of sustainability to be interesting because it is something we are all involved in. Sustainability is a way to make our life better and the world a better place for future generations. Therefore sustainability is interesting because it’s a positive influence to our lives. Some ways to sustain things around us is by turning off the lights when we’re not home because it saves energy and also shutting off the water while we are brushing our teeth helps save the water. I found that the use of water was the most interesting to me because before I didn’t know that saving water would be so important to others. I personally always thought that there is always going to be enough water for everyone, but as I grew older I realized that not everyone has the great opportunity of having water access anywhere they go as I do. This has changed the thinking about my community because I wonder if everyone in my community knows how important it is to save water and wonder if other people have water access like they do. I want to learn more about water and get the answers to these questions. Where does water come from? Is there more water in an urban area or a suburban area? I wonder if in the near future, if people start recycling more often, would the rate of sustainability increase?

  14. What is sustainability was the big question for the first two days of class. I believe sustainability to be on; only using what is needed and limiting the use of energy in none renewable forms to preserve the worlds natural resources for the next generations. Personally I live a mostly semi sustainable life, by trying to recycle as much as I can and using public transportation, but when I buy things that I know come from far places that are imported to the United States I’m not being very sustainable. I first began to think about sustainability this past summer in my architecture class where we discussed how architects are responsible for much of the world’s pollution. For example the materials used to make buildings like steal, comes from China where it’s cheaper to make. But what this creates is a lot of pollution because the steal has to be shipped from China then transported from the dock to the constitution site. That involves a great usage of fossil fuels to power the truck, ships and other vehicles to move the materials from place to place. Then after the steal is at the site it cut and broken up to fit the structure that’s being built, but if it’s not cut or measured correctly then there’s a great amount of waste produced from all the scraps. Which then involves garbage trucks to come and pick up all the trash great that will end up in landfills and wastes more fossil fuels. But never the less there are ways of having sustainable architecture but this is much more expansive, which is why it’s not done even though it’s the most Eco-friendly way to go. Therefore being more sustainable is something we should all do, if we want to keep living on earth for many more years to come we have consider the environment more. Conclusively there are small steps we can take to be more sustainable by recycling, using public transportation, using renewable resource and turning things off when not in use.

  15. The past two days of class I had a hard time identifying the meaning of sustainability.
Now I understand that it's the ways that I can help the environment like using less water or turning off the lights when Im not using it. I found the topic interesting due to the fact that I already have done these things throughout my life. This topic affects me because it occurs in my entire family without the knowledge of me knowing that my family and I were being sustainable in the environment. I learned in class that there are many ways of being sustainable, one way is by recycling and the other is by using less water. I've been thinking about water that is able to be drank and water that we use in our daily lives. How is bottled water made and is it the same as the water we use in our daily lives?

  16. These past 2 days in class we've learned so much about sustainability and how one has to establish a whole around of ideas to get whats necessary and compatible to worlds life status. In order to keep the world sustainable, we our self's need to be part and take part to sustainability. We can help sustain a better society by helping save water when using it, we might not know were wasting so much water when brushing our teeth, washing dishes , etc. Also pollution affects our oxygen in so many negative ways, it causes to start the process of global warming, breathing in deadly air that would cause harm to the environment, animals , us humans, and what not. In class we had to find our own ways to define sustainability. We worked as groups and we found our own definition and facts that would be considered it. Sustainability is the process of a new and developed society that would keep nature on the positive side. When i hear sustainable i think of Earth Day , where we help to save the status of Earth into a positive alignment by working together and forcing our self's if needed to turn off all the lights for a good amount of time. We need to motivate ours minds now if we haven't and pass down good experiences to prevent bad influence ideas and grow out the best of good influence ideas. Balancing is also a great source of positive judgment towards the world , we will benefit our future if we follow out the right path.

  17. For the first two days, it seems that we will be focusing the word sustainability. This word sustainability has turned out to be an idea that seems to catch my attention. Usually we the people hear the word going green and will make the world a better place for our future generation. Going green isn’t the only thing we need to focus but as well trying to keep the economy, social, and environment working as well. This is a huge topic not only for me but also to the rest of the people. It kept my interest because this idea is the solution to our problem. Few things that got my attention was when the slide show showed few pictures that has questioned me but was answered later on. Like why is there a Venn diagram showing three side; social, economy, and environment equaling to sustainability. That image has made sense because now that the world has changed how value of money works the economy has to be stable to make sure everyone can be sustain. Then for the environment, there have been dramatic changes especially since there have been many changes of how production in business work. Many trees are being cut down for new buildings or factories. Finally we come with how society can’t work together because of their differences. If society doesn’t change there ability to work together then there can’t be any changes that are needed at this moment.
These two days has made me view more carefully of how the community is working out. The community needs to see what’s the problem and once it’s figured out then solutions would be figured out. The world is just seeing that the environment is in danger. That’s great. But that’s just one of the three problems we obtain as a society. Some things I want to focus more on is what other worldwide problems we have other than society, economy, and environment?

  18. What I find interesting about environmental science, from what I have learned so far and what I see that we will be learning about on the syllabus, is that I will learn how to be more eco friendly and learn how I can show more respect to the environment I live in. So far what I have learned in class over the past two day is the definition of sustainability and different examples of how to live a sustainable life. I had to give my own definition of what I believe living a sustainable life is and my definition was : having different ways to preserve energy in order to save energy and have a healthy environment. I found the idea of sustainability interesting because I would like to know more on how I can help to make the world a healthier , greener place to live in. One kind of big general question that I have is how many different type of ways is there to be sustainable ? Other questions that I have are what are the different ways to be sustainable ? Also are those different ways of sustainability being used ? This class will probably change my idea of the environment and how I handle the environment I live in a lot because I would, I guess realize how much I and what I do affect my environment and me and my peers and every living thing living on this Earth. I think that our every day thoughts are extremely selfish just because that's how we ,as human beings are ,we don't really pay mind to the things surrounding us that actually affect us is a big way ; we just do what we have to do to , to do what we have to do if that make sense. At first I thought this topic wasn’t going to interest me , I thought it would just be another boring science class but it actually does , maybe because I just feel like this is actually helpful to the world right know , like environmental science is of extreme importance to the world right now .

  19. The first two days of class have been really wonderful! In my 4th period Environmental Science class, I have been able to begin learning about this idea of “Sustainability”. My definition of sustainability is the balance between recycling, sharing our resources and preserving it for future generations. I find the idea of sustainability to be interesting for numerous reasons. The idea of sustainability is interesting because you can create your own definition, basically there is no rule set to what the actual straightforward definition of sustainability is. In class, I learned that sustainability is basically what makes the whole world round. Sustainability is on the bag of coffee Mr. Fox purchases, sustainability is on the board we take papers from, and sustainability is those blue bags we recycle on. I also find the idea of sustainability interesting because it’s interesting to see how just by well balancing our lives, we can live a sustainable life. However, I wonder if there are a set of rules or guidelines we must follow in order to actually live a sustainable life. I also wonder if we are actually helping the environment by living sustainably in our definition, not the definition set by scientists. Also, learning about sustainability has really changed thinking about my life specifically – family, community and country I live in. Before coming into class, I never really thought about sustainability, but now that I have been exposed to this idea, I have different viewpoints on life. For example, my mother is a huge fan of those customized eco friendly recyclable bags. Everywhere we go, she always buys one, whether it be at Wal-Mart, Duane Reade, Rite Aid, Stop & Shop, Target, and even local supermarkets. The point is, with all these bags we have at home, I seriously think we’ll be rich if we sold them. But, we actually do something good with them. Whenever we have to go to a store and purchase something, we do not use the stores plastic bags, instead we use our own recyclable bags because it’s easier and eco friendly. Before, I used to think of doing this as just a regular thing my mom showed me. But now with the idea of sustainability, I see that I am not only helping my community, but my country as well in being more “green.” Moreover, when I think about the topic of sustainability, I think back to the recyclable bags and how my family is doing something good for the environment. But on the contrary, I think we overuse water. My sisters take forever in the bathroom and my parents spend too much time wasting water in the kitchen while cooking and such. Thinking back, I know as a family we can all reduce our water usage. I also wonder if someone is ever truly living a sustainable life, because you can help the environment in one way, but greatly hurt it in another way. So I wonder if we can learn how to make a good balance on the sustainability scale.

  20. To live sustainable you must save energy like when you finish taking a bath you must turned off the lights and that will helps our environment in many ways.In order to live sustainable we must Sell or give away used furniture, clothing, bicycles, and other unneeded items so our environment can be clean and we should drive less because that also affect our environment and we dont want that we want our environment clean. Why people doesn't recognize that in order to live good you must help the environment.Sustainability is an interesting topic because it connect to my life in many ways because in my house i like to recycle stuff and that helps me,my family and the environment in many ways.

  21. During the last two days of school, the topic of sustainability has been introduced to us. It has been given many definitions by many different people but I define it as a society where there is a balance between the environment, economic system and human civilization that benefit all those three things. In my opinion, this means when the nonrenewable resources are not depleted, humans learn to coexist with nature so that it is not harmed, and where the economic situation of the society is in good shape. This allows future generations of humans to enjoy the planet in similar condition to how it is now. The part about not depleting nonrenewable resources interests me particularly because I wonder when humans will learn to do this. Resources such as oil are among the most important in this planet for humans. It provides fuel for most countries. Even wars are fought over it, and it is not renewable resource. I wonder when will humans discover a way to fuel their nations without the use of oll that is cleaner, and as efficient if not even more efficient than oil. I also wonder what will happen to civilization if production of oil becomes too low to sustain any nation and if this great discovery of a new energy source has not happened yet. Will that be the end of us? I personally think that such a discovery will not happen for many years, definitely not in my lifetime (although I would love to be proven wrong). All this topic has done is resurface my concerns for the fate of humanity in the future. I try not to worry about it, but perhaps the time for that is over and we should all be worrying about it and coming up with ways to secure our place in the planet and eliminate all threats to the survival of this species and maintain the habitability of this planet.

  22. The first two days of class was exceptional and engaging. The topic that was discussed was something that one never realizes and mostly cares about. Sustainability has many definitions that people might find suits it. Sustainability is interesting to learn about, because we as a community need to find a way to change taking care of our environment. In my opinion, sustainability can be defined as an environment that is taken care of. One has to make the effort to save our earth, decreasing global warming. The healthier the environment is the healthier our society gets. In order for us to live a sustainable life we need to make the effort to clean up after ourselves, recycle, use recyclable bottles and bags, use more public transportation instead of a car, and much more. There are many ways to be sustainable but we as humans need to make an attempt of continuing on the path to a better living. This topic has definitely made me think twice about the way my family, friends, community and I live. A big community as we aren't doing a very good job on being sustainable. We do not seem to appreciate and notice the things that surrounds us, a land that needs to be taken care of and not letting it rot. Now being in environmental science will make us change some part of our living by learning the necessity of accomplishing it. Learning about sustainability is now making me wonder, how is global warming affecting us today and perhaps the future?

  23. During my first two days of class in Environmental Science, my classmates and I have been introduced to the idea of “sustainability.” To me, sustainability is in some way a balance between the pollution we emit, the energy we consume, and preserving the world’s natural resources. As I viewed more definitions of sustainability, it became evident that becoming sustainable is crucial for saving as many of the world’s resources we can for future generations to use. Our role in being sustainable is using as little as possible with renewable resources, or methods of wasting less energy, but still obtaining what we need.
In my opinion, the definition of sustainability was interesting itself. In those two days of class, I realized that each person has their own personal definition of sustainability, whether it was environmental, economic, physical or social. In reality, based on how one interprets the idea, there is not one “official” definition of what it means to be sustainable. This really made me think of how there are also more than a few ways to be sustainable. Being sustainable doesn’t always mean that you recycle, you never litter, or that you always turn the lights off when you leave a room; there are endless habits that don’t involve being just “eco-friendly.” This also made me wonder that perhaps we are all sustainable in our own lives whether it’s through our health, our friendships, relationships, economic standing and even how we treat all life around us.
Now that I have been exposed to the topic of sustainability, I am definitely wondering how sustainable am I? Although it’s only been short period of time, I’m a bit more aware of how much energy I use, or how much water I waste, as well as those around me. These past days learning about sustainability really proved to me that I know very little about the environment and my surroundings. I’m sure several people of all ages are in the same position as I am yet I hope to learn more about everything going on around me now. I know I have a long way to go if I want to become environmentally sustainable, yet I wonder, what difference will I make for the future if I’m sustainable now? Will anything in the future really change if we adopt “green” ways, or is the damage already done? Why is it so important to be “green” now? What’s the rush?

  24. In the first Day of class we were introduced to the topic of sustainability. We watched a slideshow about sustainability what was nice about it was that since most of it was visual there were different ways to interpret them .The topic of sustainability interested me because this topic has been brought to my attention in the past. I have learned about methods in how to life a more sustainable life such as building green roofs, composting, and green buildings. One interesting thing I learned from class was sustainability having to do with a balance between the economy, society, and the environment .The most interesting topic of sustainability I learned in class was the idea of us being responsible for leaving a sustainable world for the generations to come. This had me thinking that in order to accomplish such a feat we will have to take immediate action. One thing I am wondering is why isn’t the government taking more immediate actions if they know what is going on. I think they should make it necessary for the people to know how mad the conditions we are in now are because I believe most people believe its not so serious that they should get involved right now.

  25. I always thought of the earth to be stable, but many people can refer to the word ‘stable’ in various ways. This means that depending on how each individual treats their surroundings, it tells a lot how they define the earth to be ‘stable’. Surprisingly, the word ‘sustainability’ changed the point of view of the earth for me. Sustainability has lots of meanings and the word ‘stable’ is part of the meaning. What I found interesting is that once I heard the word ‘sustainability’ repeated multiple times, it caught my attention that it had many connections to other words that had to do with balance, recycle, and resources. For example, when the slideshow was being viewed the first day of school, lots of images had to do with the following words: equal, green, capacity, water, recycle, overview, leveled, and division. What I specifically found interesting was that the idea of conserving energy, water, and other resources had a strong connection towards the word ‘sustainability’. This made me realize that the significance of conserving resources is basically everywhere surrounding us individuals. Honestly, I didn’t know that the purpose of conserving resources had to do with sustainability. Now that I have learned enough to know what is sustainability in reality, I will definitely be the best example to my family and community of turning off the lights that are not necessary to be on at home and not littering in the street, especially when there could be a trash can a few feet away from you. If we don’t start educating ourselves with the idea of conserving resources and not littering, it will definitely affect us in the future. We have to keep in mind that the majority of the community is surrounded by children that are much younger than high school students. Therefore, whatever they see us do, it’s possible that they can do the same, anytime, anywhere. One question I have based on this topic is: Does sustainability have a strong connection with global warming? If so, how?

  26. When I first heard the word sustainability, I thought about something stable or when you had just the right amount of something. Turns out, I wasn’t too far off the actual meaning but I was missing some things. The first two days of school helped me to understand the meaning of the word sustainability and what it involves. My interest in the word grew when we had the slide show from which we had to create our own definition of sustainability. It got worse when I had to wait until the next day for the actual definition. I have to admit, that created suspense. From the slideshow, I learned that sustainability involved some sort of balance between the environment, society, and economy. The second day of class allowed me to discover the actual meaning of sustainability. Sustainability is keeping the balance of the resources so that they are kept at a moderate level so as to not be depleted for future generations. I found it interesting that the economy was part of sustainability since the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the word was recycling. The economy honestly doesn’t first come to my mind when I think about how we must save the environment by recycling and using our resources wisely. I wonder though, does minimizing one’s use of water in their daily life really make a big difference? Will changing our sources of energy really help the Earth? How much of an impact does recycling have on everyone, including the Earth?
Learning about sustainability has made me think about how I live my life. I definitely should recycle more and I should save more energy such as turning off lights when I’m not using them. As well as turning off the water and not letting it run for a very long time. I also think my family and the community need to be more aware of their environment. We shouldn’t be wasteful but grateful. We take our environment for granted which is why we don’t care for it as much as we should. I want to learn more about how I can work to help create sustainability. How can I change my daily life so as to help the environment around me for the better?

  27. These past 2 days were interesting, especially when we introduced the topic of sustainability.
I found this topic interesting because we are living in a world where now becoming “eco-friendly” isn’t an option anymore, it’s become a necessity. During these past 2 days, we have defined sustainability, and worked in teams as “kings and queens” to make our “kingdoms” sustainable for our citizens. From these 2 days, I learned that sustainability branches out into 3 separate categories; environment, society, and economy. So what exactly is sustainability? Well, by the second day, based on the quotes we read from different companies on their definition of the essential question; “what is sustainability?” Sustainability is using the resources that our Earth provides us in a safe and useful way, keeping in a conscious state of mind, that there will be a future generation that will need the same limited resources later on. Being sustainable means being selfless and asking yourself, do I really need this? Since attending a program in Manhattan College over the summer, I have been a bigger participant in helping save our Earth. In the program, we learned about sustainability. When I learned that we will be talking about sustainability in class, I got excited, because I already know some background information about this specific topic. Also, I hope that learning about this in more depth will help me, as a citizen in the world, become more eco-friendly.

  28. These past two days are main idea has been sustainability and how we can make the world much healthier and trying to make a definition for sustainability my definition was using something that can run on and on without using as much energy or using solar powered energy or wind power energy. During these past two days we have also created some rules that relate to sustainability and keeping the world healthy for example using renewable resources. Sustainability has made me think in a different way like recycling since i didn't know that recycling was a law in New York City keeping the world healthier is important because this way we are able to keep it healthy for future generation . I was wondering any company can change in a way that they would help the world even though they might lose money ?

  29. In the past two days we have been learning about sustainability. My definition of sustainability is the process of conserving materials and using resources responsibly. I'm exited we are learning about sustainability and conserving because I like to think that I live a sustainable life. Even though I live my life using more than the minimum of what I need like using electronics. We also learned that sustainability has to do with preserving resources connecting to environmental, economic, and social needs. On Friday we made a chart including our definitions of sustainability and some rules we need to follow in order to live a sustainable life. One of my rules was that we need to recycle bottles and cans. I always follow this rule because in my house, I have about 4 different cans for different garbage and we dispose it accordingly. I found the idea of sustainability interesting because I am concerned with where all of the waste of the world goes. When we flush the toilet where does that water go? When the garbage truck passes by and takes the garbage to the dump, what happens when the dump is full?
I think that that this unit is going to change the way I look at the world through the lens of sustainability. I think I'll be more concerned about how much energy we use and how many resources we waist. Ill be more affected by the things i see in my community. I want to learn more about water in this class. Is the bottled water we drink really clean? Where are these "springs" that all the water company’s talk about? And last but not least, where does the water from our showers come from and go to?

  30. In these two past days I have learned that sustainability is basically the world going green meaning to reduce the usage of water , recycling bottles , plastic , and glass . Also , to fight global warming and stop using cars that affect our air which is already in process as we can see today the little smart carts , the green rooms , and when I take out the trash out of my house to the basement , the trash are separated by regular trash , glass , and plastic . The whole world in my opinion should act upon this situation for our future environment in order to remain healthy . Ever since the first two days of class I've been thinking about when yu brush your teeth to turn off the water from the sink and turn off as many lights that is not being used for any reason .

  31. During the first two days of class in Environmental Science, the main focus point was directed towards the idea of sustainability. Sustainability can be described as having the capability of maintaining a balanced environment, particularly through conservation. In today’s day and age, Earth’s population is quickly rising, and is also currently in a climate crisis (also known as global warming). Both of these factors contribute to the fact that sustainability needs to be something that we have to keep in mind. Because of the rise in population, we have to be mindful about how many resources we use on a daily basis. This is especially true for nonrenewable resources such as coal and petroleum (oil), which we happen to use a lot. As for global warming, the most important thing about its connection to sustainability would be the fact that we absolutely need to keep the Earth’s ecosystem stable and, of course, sustained.
Sustainability in itself has always been a topic of interest to me. In order to avoid future complications within our society, I think that it’s very important for individuals to learn about sustainability; the fact that we are learning about it now during class is wonderful. I also think that the more we learn about sustainability, the better the chance that Earth’s current state can be improved. Think about it - if we continue to treat our planet like a giant waste bin, do you really think that our lives here will be better? Gradually, such treatment will put Earth in a horrid state, so the answer is no – our environment would worsen over time, and if that happens, we’re all going to be paying the price.
I really would just like to know why people had to wait until something like global warming turned up in order to realize that we have to keep this idea in our heads. Still, there are still many other individuals who probably don’t know about sustainability, or don’t know what to do to help out the environment. How can we spread the word about sustainability and its importance so that we can be able to change that? It may be difficult, but surely it is not impossible. As cliché as it might sound, it really does only take one person to make a difference.

  32. During the two days we had so far in Science class my class and I have been learning about Sustainability. Well what is it you might be asking ? Sustainaility as I define it is the system of how our society work togther to maintain things in balance in order to make our planet better. We need to save our number one most valuable thing which is Earth. We must save it because it is our home and as well now and for the next generations to come. Sustanability includes things such as recycling, saving energy, saving the rain forest and more. I found this topic intresting rather because it allow me to open my mind and really think about how Earth needs us now more then ever and how the time is now to take action even if it starts with teenagers like me. Something I learned in class was how our planet need one another of what it got to move and to keep balance and run right. One idea I found intresting was using other things but gas to make our cars run. For example cooking oil can help, this will allow us to have more gas/oil and this really could work if we try thats why I found it intresting. One idea I had in mind was why not start with our own school WHEELS and take action with sustainability. In my own home I began on friday saving more energy by turning off lights that were not needed and I already reuse shopping bags.

  33. The first two days of Environmental Science and the idea of sustainability has been a great opportunity to share my ideas of what we should do balance our lives. My definition of sustainability is working with the environment to conserve non-renewable resources, (such as gas), protect the ecosystem, (such as animals and plants), and balance our essentials, (such as water and electricity) for ourselves, the planet and future generations. The topic of sustainability is interesting because it is something we must welcome into our lives in order to be stable. What worries me about sustaining our lives is that the majority of the population does not take into account, or seem to care about the environment, so it is up to the few who do to make a change and take care of what little we have. In our little poster project on Friday, we discussed some laws if we were to create our own sustainable world. I suggested that the consumption of poultry and fish be illegal. Killing our animals destroys our environment and circle of life, they will soon become extinct and we will have nothing if the world consumes the amount of meat that they currently do. I was a vegetarian for close to two years, I am not one now, but I limit the amount of meat I consume, and since it is impossible to illegalize the consumption of meat, the world should at least limit how much they eat meat and fish, and treat the animals with some sort of respect, it is also cruelty after all. I also suggested that most technology be powered by solar energy if it is possible. It is a more convenient way, as the sun will always be there for as long as we live, and it is something that can’t run out. I also fear our water usage, I’m not really sure where it comes from, or where it goes, but we humans sure use it, a lot, and we should practice techniques to in which we conserve our healthy water. I hope to learn ways to conserve energy because I admit; I use plenty of it. But also learn ways to make others change their habits to protect the world.

  34. When I first heard the word “sustainability” my first thought was to break down the word to “sustain”. I knew that the word “sustain” meant to support an object physically or mentally but I did not know how this word could apply to things in the environment. I found this topic of sustainability to be an interesting one because I had never actually thought about it and with the slide show shown in class on the first day I thought that sustainability was the process in which resources are exploited and later renewed for better use. However, my thought was altered by the second day of class. On the second day of class I was asked to work in a group with classmates and I learned a few things about sustainability. First of all, I learned that sustainability is when you keep a resource without actually destroying it. This was interesting to me because I thought that resources were always destroyed which could lead us to having global warming. Apparently, I was wrong. Another thing I learned in class was that humans are the ones that harm the environment. This was also interesting to me because I knew that one way that humans hurt the environment is by littering. For example, littering has affected animals such as whales, birds, seals, and turtles because these animals have swallowed plastic bags and other materials which have caused them to die. Furthermore, the thing that I found most interesting was that the economy has a relation with sustainability. I found this to be the most interesting fact out of all of the ones I learned in class because if you save materials and energy you can save up money. This is very important to me because the United States is in a recession and I don’t know how long this will last. In addition to this if I do not learn how to conserve energy I will only waste materials and grow to be an adult that will fall into debt along with the rest of society. Based on what I have learned, sustainability has now affected my life because I unplug the charger of my electronics from the outlet and turn off the lights from the rooms in the house to save energy. This has changed my thinking about the United States because Americans take energy for granted but what would we do without it? Therefore, I still want to know what relationship sustainability has with global warming and health as well as I still wonder what state marine animals are in at this point since most of them are becoming extinct.

  35. The past two days of class we have been learning about sustainability and how it affects each and everyone of us personally. I personally think sustainability means a balanced in society whether it is recycling or even taking care of our own community. sustainability doesn't have an accurate definition it can be seen from different ways depending on the point of view. Sustainability can described as something that is balanced or equal. sustainability also looks like it has to do with recycling, plants, and water. This is one interesting topic because it connects to global warming and the damage we cause to society by burning fossil fuels , and even just throwing garbage in the streets. We are supposed to take care of our community and earth but instead we do all these things that ended up harming our health by polluting the air. We can do many things to fix this and have a sustainable life such as recycling, using brown paper bag, using recycled bottles or paper, and recycle old electronics. Having a sustainable life doesn't only apply to us humans , it also applies to the animals that go through cruelty just because we have to eat meats. We should be aware that we aren't the only ones who live on earth other things get hurt such as plants, animals, and mother nature. The most interesting thing about this topic was reading others definition to sustainability. I found this very interesting because everyone has a different point of view and take it to another level where you only don't think about yourself but other things that get affected by this. I don't think this has changed my opinion of my family , community or my country because I always thought it was our responsibility to take care of where we live not only for us but future generations.

  36. There first two days of school were very interesting because Mr. Fox introduced the word sustainability to us. My first thought was think about the word sustain, look at the images that Mr. Fox showed us as examples of susatainability and try to connect everything. My thoughts were being good towards the earth, live a life that doesnt harm the environment, and as many people thought as well reduce, re-use recycle . I thought of sustainability as riding bikes , recycling, re-using plastic bags using public transportation instead of your own car, unplugging things that aren't in use etc. I still want to learn more and get deeper into the concept of sustainability and how it affects my life, the lies of others, and our planet.

  37. These past two in class we been learning about sustainability. I found this topic interesting because it has to do with our society and also keeping the world balance which is having to do with energy. Sustainability has to do with resources and how we are able to manage them and also to keep earth safer for future generations we might not know it but the things we do harm the world and imagine millions of people doing thats. The most interesting things i found about sustainability is that it has to do a lot with tress which we need so cutting less tress would make a huge difference and also recycling which would decrease cut downs off tress. Things that i got question about is why recycling isn't a law world wide? Also why doesn't the government start using solar energy?. This changed my mind of the world because the things we do hurt the environment with out us knowing because we worry about other things. Also i would try to do the my best in contributing to keep the environment safe. Also now that i noticed the community that I life in doesn't seem to care about the environment. One final thing that i want to know about this topic is that how is it being handle this year world wide. The only thing that i am wondering about is that why doesn't the government have that much of a concern as others.

  38. For the first two days of school in Environmental Science we have been introduced to the question “What is sustainability? And what does it mean to us? “ This topic has been interesting so far because it challenged us to really think about the ideas, words, phrases, pictures, etc that had to go with sustainability. My thoughts on sustainability are that it has to do with conservation of our environment, and a greater balance of the things that seem to make our world not balanced sometimes. Sustainability is also a way to make our world more healthy and successful, I also think that sustainability can be broken down into three different types they are; social sustainability, political sustainability, and economic sustainability. If we as a country can keep these three parts of sustainability balanced the world will be more positive. I found this topic interesting because it made think about all the different types of things that I as a person in this community can contribute in order to help keep the environment we live in sustainable. I also found it interesting because we were asked to make rules in class on how to help keep the world more sustainable and my group and I came up with some interesting ideas that would actually benefit us if were actually able to make rules. Two of those ideas that I most enjoyed was making a rule that said recycling was a law in the whole United States and if anyone broke it then they would have to pay the consequences. The other one was turning all productions of any type of vehicles into only hybrid and eco friendly systems. A question that came up this week in class for me was, if the whole world were to switch to living only a sustainable lifestyle, would too much sustainability harm us? If we are harming our environment now and global warming is high, and we were to do a total switch on how we treat the world will global warming leave? Or will a new problem come to surface? This topic this week has definitely changed my ways of how I see my future. For example I’ve seen the word sustainability a lot these couple of years, on TV, on coffee cups, on stickers, posters etc and I’ve never put too much mind to it. However now I know that when I see the word it is a good thing because the person who posted or carried that word knows or maybe cares about starting a sustainable lifestyle, or is at least exposing the word out, viewable to other people. I am for sure going to start taking care of what I do more, like not letting the water run and turning of lights and the TV when I am not using them. This week has been a good reflective week for me.

  39. these past 2 days in class the phrase "sustainability" has come up many times. I feel like once i know the real meaning of sustainability this semester would go by easily because i believe that sustainability is the root of the class for this semester. this past days we also did a group activity i which we tried to figure out the meaning of sustainability and my group came up with the definition of " sustainability is the act of trying to i'm prove life's technology , but in the same time we are persurving the environment for our future generation" after i did this activity i realized that i found this topic very interesting because this is something that benefits me because i live in the enviorment and if i can learn how to live a good sustainable life then i would be helping my community. This makes class even better and easier to learn because is something that it would always intrigues me . This trimester i feel like class is going to be very helpful because i think this would give me a push to learning on finding out ways to help out my enviorment , for example i can find out where my water comes from, and by this i could be more aware of whats really going on around me. these past 2 days i feel like it gave me a broad look into the rest to this year.

  40. The first two days of Environmental Science has made me wonder where DOES our water come from? What makes something sustainable? What IS sustainability? In my opinion on what sustainability means is to put something into good use, to make something comfortable, clean, and balanced out. Friday’s class made me think whether I do live a sustainable life, which I don't. I would like to recycle and save energy and let's say "help" the world but it is something I do not keep in mind every day. So far the only energy saving thing I have our my light bulbs, but I wonder If my parents care enough, but soon I'll get to change that with the things I learn this year.

  41. The past two days of school our topic was sustainability. I learned that sustainability is the action of reusing resources to keep balance in the worlds social, economic, and environmental standards. Sustainability won’t only help our generation but future generations as well. When thinking of how to be ecologically friendly things that can save electricity, oil, water, and plastic are of huge contribution in saving our planet. Things as simple turning off unnecessary light, closing water faucets when not needed, and once in a while taking a bicycle or walking to short distanced destinations will make a huge contribution to a sustainable world. I feel that this class is going to help me learn how we can make a change by changing little things of our everyday life. I am also interested in things Mr. Fox touched upon such as where our water comes from? What’s the difference between bottled water and regular water? And where does the water already used go to? I think this is going to be an interesting class showing me the difference one person can make by just knowing simple things.

  42. In these past to days in school, i have enjoyed the topic of sustainnability and the class its self. i feel like its goings to be a good semester especially since im into the topic. This topic of sustainability has made a good point in protecting of natural resources and not to unresponsibilty use them. The topic i have picked that mostly interestes me is topic 2 about local waters.Even though so far i havent learned anything about this topic it interestes me because i really want to know wether our tap water is really not bad for you. This matters to me because it affects us in both good and bad ways because using tap water and wasting any type of water is bad for the earth and the enviroment.I found thi homework interesting because it talks about our way of living and our enviroment and whether its good for us.One question i got is how are we going to really investigate this topic thoughtfully and how would we look into it??In my opinion this has effected my family because i have been more resourcefull about what i use and how i use it like being for sustainable about important resources.

  43. These first two days of environmental science has really introduced to me a topic I haven’t really paid much attention to before. On Thursday’s class this word (not new) sustainability has reached a new meaning in my brain as I saw the slide shows presented to the class. I didn’t know it concerned not only us but the world too. I wasn’t surprised when I saw that society, economy, and environment were associated with this word; since these are the basic rules to a sustainable life according to environmental science class. On Friday it really made me think more with the group project we had to construct revolving around the word sustainability. Define it with a group and creating laws to a sustainable world really made me grasp what is going to come along class this year and what to expect.
Reflecting on these two days around the word sustainability has really made me think about how sustainable my life is. Based on the words definition in environmental science class I don’t think my life is really that sustainable. I usually even though I hear about it recycle much to help the world and I can work on managing my use of water. Also considering myself I don’t think I am economically stable because I don’t work, and have to rely on my parents for money. In conclusion I expect to learn more about sustainability and hope to improve my life to make it more sustainable.

  44. First week of environmental science class and the topic was about sustainability. Sustainability is how humans can be able to responsibly manage out resources without depleting it for other generations to come. It can be from the from the smallest and biggest changes in a lifestyle, like reusing plastic bag from a super market to cutting back on things you want like shower time. After learning about sustainability I found it very intriguing because I found out a lot of ways how I can manage using my everyday resources in a responsible manageable way. I learned from my peers examples of sustainability that I can unplug plus from outlets when not using them, turning off unusable bulbs and lamps, turning off the fosset when brushing your teeth or washing dishes and many many more. Learning about this makes me look back at the times I've selfishly used energy and think of the uncomprehendable amount of water and energy that could of been in proper use. Other then putting energy to waste, I would enjoy learning about other things then energy that can be managed responsibly.

  45. The first two days of environmental science went okay. Mr. Fox showed us a slideshow of pictures that had to do with sustainability. At first I thought to break down the word into two, sustain meaning to support or hold on to and ability meaning to be able to do something. Being that it's environmental science class i figured that sustainability means to be able to support the environment. After my classmates shared their own ideas of the word sustainability and how we can make sure our own "kingdoms" are sustainable, recycling wasn't the only thing I thought about. Julie shared her idea about painting the roof of buildings white so that the building wouldn't get so hot in the summer and people wouldn't have to use their air conditioner as frequent as they usually would. I found this interesting because I knew that darker colors attract heat and lighter colors attract less heat but I didn't know it also applied to buildings. It surprised me that recycling is a law, it surprised me so much because not that many people recycle. My grandmother and I recycle as much as we can but we're not really mindfull of the water, at least I'm not. I usually leave the shower running for about 5 minutes before I get it. My grandmother always asks me why I leave the water running and my excuse is always "we don't pay for it, why does it matter" but now I see that it does matter and we might not pay for it now but our future generations might pay for it in another way.

  46. Throughout the first two days of Environmental Science, I learned that the word "sustainability" has many dimensions to it's definition. The first day of class, I created my own definition for sustainability in order to make more sense of it. My definition is the following; sustainability is having the ability to survive on your own, and having all your necessities at hand. This means that you possess all the essential material that you need to survive such as money, food, shelter, and water, and happiness. In the society we all live in, majority of the definition of sustainability revolves around economic success. If you are economically stable then you are able to obtain food, shelter & water because you are able to purchase it. However, depending on each individual's point of view, having economic balance may or not bring your life joy or happiness. In other words, you might not consider yourself sustainable if you are not yet satisfied. On the second day of school, I learned that sustainable also meant using what you do have wisely, so that way future generations will also be able to enjoy these luxuries. Not taking advantage of these possessions is also a part of being a sustainable individual. This includes recycling paper, plastic, glass and aluminum, & re-using these items. Being an eco-friendly human being ties in well because you will be being respectful to your environment and to the other individuals that inhabit it.

During the first two days of class the word sustainability was repeated many times and i was very confused, but the more we discussed the word sustainability i realized that it is related to the environment and the way resources are used. i believe creating healthy ecosystems. i also believe that new york city is working on being sustainable with all the new trees being planted, and all the recycling laws. i believe a couple of ways of being sustainable is conserving energy, and recycling and more people should do those because i have noticed that in my neighborhood i barley see recycling bags waiting to be picked up people either throw recyclable materials with normal trash or toss them on the sidewalk with out bags.

  48. These first two days of class has been pretty interesting. Mainly due to the fact that I never really thought about what it means to live sustainably. Sure at times I would think about how much damage is being placed on the environment through mass production and pollution but in my thoughts It took up 10, maybe 15% of my thinking power. Through class I learned that to live sustainably is not just having enough of something for me or my generation it's to have enough for my generation and future generations. It's to take care of the environment to ensure that the natural resources it offers is still offered for the generations long after I'm gone. The more I look into this topic I start to wonder, does any nation really care? So many trees and other natural resources are selfishly taken to satisfy the nations' greed to make more capital to attempt to become or remain the most powerful country on Earth. This had made me start to think, that maybe one person recycling can make a difference, I never really paid any mind to it but my father was a pioneer of recycling on my floor. Just because he started to recycling he started to tell our neighbors to recycling too and while he might have come off as preachy at first everyone on the 3rd floor of my building started to recycling so in conclusion I guess one person can change the mind of other people and can really make a difference

  49. This Two past days in environmental science class we have been discussing sustainability. we saw how popular sustainability is and we ask our selves if we live sustainable life's. I witness how many of the brands that make everyday products try to be sustainable."Go green" among many other slogans have been used to represent sustainability in brands. cups and chart paper are only a few examples of products that companies try to make sustainable. i have found this topic so interesting and it has really made me like the class a lot.I found it really interesting how everyone in class had a different definition of sustainability. in groups of four we look at different text book definitions of sustainability and at the end we came up with a definition we all agreed with. also in our groups we came up with some rules on if we were queens and kings of the world on how everyone would need to be more sustainable. This was really fun because we came up with crazy ideas that wouldn't happen any time soon but that would really help the world out. for example i came up with the rule of cutting all type of private transportation. this would mean that everyone would have to use public transportation or use bikes, scooter, skates or skateboards to travel. The government would never pass a law like that because it would leave a lot of people unemployed and it would destroy a lot of companies such as Toyota and Honda. This past two days the topic of sustainability has really made me think deeply. It had made me ask my self if i really do live a sustainable life? and i would actually say yes, i do live a sustainable life. i would try to compare my life to my own definition of sustainability. My definition of sustainability is an action done by humans to preserve and make the earth a better place for future generations. This topic has also made me ask my self if i actually make a difference in this world? It makes me wonder if me being sustainable if fair to my self?. I ask my self this questions because i see how much harm one person could do to the world. I don't use private transportation very often. i usually use my bike or when its a very far distance i use public transportation. i recycle, i don't trow garbage on the floor and i try to reuse things as much as possible. But then again i ask my self, do my actions make any type of difference in the world? because i found it really unfair that i try and some people could go around trowing garbage on the floor. i have never made my self this questions,or even tough about the earth until this past few days that i was in environmental science. so far this class has showed me the true definition of sustainably and it has made me think of questions i have never really tough about before. i know sustainability is one of the many topics that we are going to be discussing but so far i really like the class and i find it extremely important. i feel like everyone should take this class in order to be a better human. The class shows you the importance of things on earth. It shows us that if we want to be sustainable and preserve this world for future generations we need to do something about it. we need to stop leaving electronics on and stop wasting water. we all need to live a sustainable life in order to make a difference because only a few people living it would not make a very big difference in the world. i feel that if it was possible living sustainable shouldn't be an option it should be something everyone is force to do.

  50. During the first two days of Environmental Science, we have been focusing on the topic of sustainability. It was our job to make educated guesses based on a slideshow and our peers’ ideas on what sustainability actually means. In my opinion, sustainability involves being green , respecting the Earth, and preserving its resources so that future generations will be able to benefit from the same kind of quality that the Earth has offered us in our time. One of the aspects of being green and of sustainability is controlling our water usage. This topic was the most interesting to me because at first, I didn’t understand why we have to limit the amount of water we use. Because of the water cycle, isn’t it impossible for water to disappear? I figured that if water will always be around no matter what, why can’t we use as much of it as we want? Is it to keep the water clean? Are we supposed to limit water usage because there isn’t enough clean water? Personally, I don’t do a very good at being green. I often let the water run because my cat will only drink from the faucet but I always forget to watch for when she finishes, so the water usually keeps running for a while after she’s done. This is probably like an everyday thing that occurs in my life so I can’t even imagine the amount of water that I waste. I came to the conclusion that my life isn’t sustainable because I probably waste a lot more resources than just water. Most of the time, I probably don’t even realize I’m being unsustainable. These first two days of school have made me realized that I have a lot of changes to make in my own personal life if I want to achieve sustainability. Throughout the rest of the year, I hope to find out ways that can make my life sustainable. It’s important for me to make these changes because I think that we need to respect this planet that we live on. Sometimes we take so much from the Earth without giving back and that’s something I want to try to stop doing.

  51. In the past two days of Environmental Science we have been learning about Sustainability. The only word i thought about was sustain and all the images that Mr. Fox had showed to us during class. One i thought that over throughout my head for awhile. Since this is relating to science i thought about how sustainability related to Earth. On how what people have to start doing to be able to help the Earth stay alive. Like people recycling, re-using certain things so we won't use so much of those things, and redusing. What i find interesting is that so many people in the world don't do any of these things, just because they are to lazy or they just don't care. I find this interesting because i don't understand why these people don't do any of this. They should care about the Earth because it's the Earth that is keeping us the way we are today. Without the Earth where would we be today? This is related to my life because in school, especially in Science our school teachers teach us so much about helping the Earth, making it a better place. But sometimes what's the use some of the children might not care about what their profesors are teaching them and don't help out at all. What this puts me to think about is that i think about telling my family more about this, and try to get them and others that i know to learn more about it. Once they think about it and get into the idea that they would start doing the same, and telling people they know about it and they could get into it also and spreading the news. What i would like to know is that why are people not interested in this? this could help out their lives, and if they think that it's to much work they should actually try it to find out instead of judging without trying it.

  52. At first when I heard the word sustain in class I thought it mean to take. But after the first day of class and looking the word up online I learned that sustainability meant to keep a resource without harming it. I found this topic interesting because there are a lot of resources we use that lead to the harming of our planet. One way we can help our environment is by using transportation methods that don’t hurt the environment. For example Bicycles, train, and buses instead of cars & also by simply walking. You can also help your environment by saving water, by taking shorter showers, and use less water when brushing your teeth. I found these two examples an interesting topic because I can relate to things I do every day. For example instead of using a car or taxi to get to school I just walk to school which is not adding harm to my environment , but I also harm my environment by taking somewhat of a long shower everyday and letting the water run while brushing my teeth. After learning how to help my environment I have learned how to take shorter showers and using less water when brushing my teeth.

  53. Dating back to the first two days of Environmental Science class, the main topic has been sustainability. I find this topic to be interesting because I enjoy learning about how one thing can benefit many. For example, sustainability can be the center of society, economy, and the environment. During class, I learned some interesting facts about sustainability- it controls many things. I also learned that without sustainability, there can be chaos. Sustainability is also everywhere and it benefits the environment most importantly. I found this even more interesting because I was not aware of sustainability being responsible for economy, and society. I also was interested when I found out that sustainability is something the Earth needs the most. Some questions I have, are: What exactly will happen without sustainability? How do you know the environment is sustainable? Some ideas I have are that sustainability will be a prominent topic in Environmental Science class, because it concerns the environment, and we will find out how it works by doing experiments. Learning about sustainability has made me think that stability is very important throughout the world, especially the economy, society and Earth. Sustainability definitely affects the community because we are responsible for keeping things going the right way, also my family. It is our responsibility to keep chaos out of the way. I want to know what projects will we do that will give us a full understanding of sustainability. I am excited to know what else am I going to learn about sustainability and how will it affect the way I think aftet getting a full understanding of it.

  57. Well i wasn't in class for the first two days of school but i learned many things about sustainability. Sustainability is the balance of nature. Today we read the book The Lorax by Dr.Seuss it was pretty obvious the message of the book was about sustainability. The animals in the books were suffering because of the Once-lers decision to make his company bigger using natural resources such as trees, but what he didn't pay mind to was the animals habitats were being destroyed. Sustainability pays a role in each of our lives because still today issues such as global warming , pollution , and other choices individuals make affect the animals and the environment we live in.

  58. I believe that the past two days, my understanding of the idea of sustainability has changed. I had thought it meant balance of energy, after discussing it with fellow classmates, a better definition is not wasting that which is necessary to live. sustainability was discussed as groups had to create rules for a sustainable life, my group decided to revert to basics and follow darwin's "survival of the fittest" ideology.

  59. Sustainability is something connected to every living organism. To me sustainability means being able to acquire sustenance for one's self, of course this definition can also be applied to larger groups and societies/ecosystems. When one thinks about self-sustenance they would contemplate about the three necessities needed to survive: water, food, and shelter. In this modern world since the Industrial Revolution and even before that, these three basic needs have and still are being threaten by the impacts of human action/involvement; Water and air pollution, toxic waste disposal, deforestation, and the endangering of species are just to name a few. But what holds human beings back from completely restoring the environment back to normality is greed. If everyone did their part in helping restore and maintain a clean environment world wide then we would have already fixed many major problems or at the very least reduced them to the point where it's not a threat. What people should realize that it is actually in their best interest to do their part because in the long run it will save them money, like a lower utility bill when water and electricity are not scarce and easily produced. Overall people should try to learn what they could do to help, at most if the person isn't going to be an enthusiast helper then only minor changes to one's life is needed to already be making a great contribution.
