This project help me understand the safety of the water we drink becase i know what bottel of water hase and is the same thing we drink just inside a bottel of water is tap????.
ReplyDelete-Think the projet will influence my actions in the fute because i can tell other pepl tht tap water is better then bottel of water and it also healther for yout teeth and is taste better.
Maybe i will but posably not because i can mae sure peope or my famliy lisence to m on what is healty n make sure my family and friends undestand on wha is better for there heath.
I do have a better understanding of how the water industry makes us belive that there wate is better then the one we have at home and also makes us buy there water when we dont even know we are drinking the same water we drink when we are at home.
Some projet at at school are not the same because the projets that i do are diffrent are about out time now and past time. What i like about it is that i get to learn on how evrything was greatded and build in hour time in life and futer two wish is really exsiding. What could make it better is ifwe learn on how thinks happend and how they argue to make thinks better in this contry. I wil be really intrested in doing something like this in the futer even when i have a cool teacher like Mr.FOX to rap formy projet heyy lol.
The most engaging projets were the rap and the videos and also posters because they hade losts of information wha tap and bottel of water wish it was really indersting for me.
I think the commuty could know what is in there bottel of water like my stepdad drink multuple bottel of water he thinks is heather than everything in the world but is really not.

This week projects helped me understand more about the bad things inside bottled water. I try to use the same information from class and persuade my friends not to drink bottle water. I tell them how the plastic used in bottle water is made of oil used in cars. So people are practically drinking oil. Not only people are drinking oil, people are drinking harsh chemicals that are cancer-causing and damaging to the body. I have transitioned from bottle water to a WHEELS re-usable bottle for a while now. I've been drinking filtered water from my house now until the filter broke and I was dehydrated like a fish on land. So that gave me a chance to actually drink New York's fresh, pure, frequently treated tap water from the Croton and Catskill/Delaware Watersheds. The same night i filled my bottle with tap water I left it inside the fridge overnight. I agree that the taste is very different. Tap water tastes more cleaner and fresh.
ReplyDeleteThe projects were kind of difficult to do because it is hard to create any sort of advertisement without any experience on how to do so. However, when it was time to present, I loved everyone's projects especially David's video, Brunel's rap, and Mr. Fox's rap afterwords
In my opinion this project helped me see how effect NYC water is and how helathy it can really be. All this time i would drink water from water fountains in the park and filtered tap water from my house and never acually knew where it was really from. I learned how much cae is given to NYC water and how many times its tested to make sure the water is at its healthiest without it affecting us people in a bad way. Some changes i will now makeis to make sure i have a reusable water bottles instead of wasting a dollar or 2 just to buy water that is technically free to us. Somethings i liked about this was the various options of what we could have done for this project like prezi and making a poem. Prezi was especially an awesome way to express the way we used information instead of power points which makes it boring. I want to connect this to my family because before my uncle use to drink tap water but after he had let it sit in his refrigerator over night little things was inside of it which inspired him to buy water bottles but after i had told him how good tap water is especially from NYC he stopped drinking bottle water and now filters his water and drinks from their. In my opinion this will be good ways to express projects.
ReplyDeleteThis project helped me learn a lot about NYC’s Water. I would say that after this project I know that at least in New York City it’s not worth buying bottled water because most of the Plastic Bottled Water comes from the same place the water from our tap comes from. It makes sense to spend less money, and just use re-usable water bottles around the city.
ReplyDeleteThis project helped me realize that knowledge is power, and when you are educated on a topic you can show other people the right things to do. For example, every time I see one of my teachers drinking bottled water I feel the need to tell them that we have plenty of water fountains around the school where they can drink water from. Being able to do this project also helped realize that many people in our city are aware of the effects plastic water has on our environment and they know we have healthy tap water, yet they refuse to stop buying the bottles because they “are good for traveling”.
Through this project I learned a lot, because I had time to actually sit down and read the information in order to make a presentable and accurate project with my members. I think that this project helped me retain a lot of important information on NYC’s Tap water and the bottle water industry.
I really enjoyed this project because it was different from other classes, usually in the other classes our projects are papers which can be stressful but for this project there was no stress at all. I enjoyed how there was a task, ideas were given and we had the freedom of what we wanted to do. For my group especially I would say the Prezi helped us a lot because it allowed us to put pictures and videos to the PowerPoint which made our presentation standout more and it made it easier to present. However from the audience’s point of view the most successful presentations in my opinion were the ones that had raps, or poems and didn't really use blogs or PowerPoint presentations just because it was more entertaining.
Overall I really enjoyed this project because it was fun creating a presentation for the class and it made class more interesting for a few days. From now on I will work on reminding my parents to buy reusable bottles for water use instead of boxes and boxes of bottled water because I know it will be a healthy contribution to our environment. If we want a future to look forward to then our actions must change.
This project was exciting to work on and especially if you had a great team to work with. But the main focus was for this project is to be able to understand the safety of NYC tap water. I understand that tap water is equivalent to bottle water. Not better tasting even though bottle water uses some chemicals to make their water taste more unique. But I will now remember that tap water is cheaper and you are secured of having healthy water each day especially since there are many tests being done to it. Now I will try to get a reusable plastic bottle so I could stop wasting money. If I could stick to this plan of wasting less money in plastic bottle then I could save an average of $20 a month. This project included 3 parts to it and usually there’s only one part. But this project included being more creative. All the presentations seen, involved some kind of media but all were different and creative. It showed everyone’s creativity. It could have been better if it involved more time for preparation. If there were more time, there would have been better results in presentation.
ReplyDeleteThe most engaging project for many people would be either the rap or video. But mine would be the prezi. It’s something that I have never tried or seen before. It might be similar to a slideshow but it seems really cool how it changes to a new panel. Prezi will be something required for many presentations not only on school but also in cooperation’s that require presentation.
I have shown my sister the whole presentation and once the presentation was finished she started to ask many questions. Not because of the confusion but if all the facts stated were true about bottle water. She later said she would stop buying bottle water. Later she told me to make a new presentation about bottle juices and sodas. It shows that she listen carefully and willing to have a change.
This project helped develop my understanding of NYC’s tap water. It helped me better understand NYC’s tap water because the point of view of my peers helped me see the tap water vs. bottled water dilemma a lot more clearly because I saw this discussion being thought through via many different perspectives and come to a specific reasonable conclusion. The many different projects that were presented in class made me realize that I should respect the work and efforts of my fellow classmates and do what Mr. Fox, my entire class, my group, and I think is the right decision. I am going to change my ways and start making the tap my fountain of hydration because the tap is where it’s at! The Prezi presentation was a great interactive resource for this project. This is by far the best project I’ve done in WHEELS! I was in total control over what went in and what came out of my project. I was in control of my presentation and how people reacted to it. I was in control of my audience and my audience was in control of me. I was happy during and after my presentation, so much to a point where I’ve even begun to consider becoming a teacher!
ReplyDeleteThis project helped me understand the safety of New York City’s drinking water because I had to do find information about New York City’s drinking water and then other people’s project also had information about drinking water. My knowledge of New York City’s drinking water grew from the presentation of the projects. All of the information really highlighted positive qualities about New York City’s drinking water. It is hard to denounce all the positive remarks of New York City’s drinking water when there is strong evidence to support it. I think that this project will definitely influence my future actions. One thing I can change is reducing the amount of bottled water that I buy. This is a good start because it helps the environment. If more people were to do the same thing then the positive impact on the environment would be greater.
ReplyDeleteI have a better understanding of where New York City’s drinking water comes from and the bottled water industry. It is clear that the drinking water comes from natural sources and is also operated by the natural force of gravity. This project made me aware that the bottled water industry has more negative than positive aspects. The bottled water industry is clever in using tap water for its product. This has negative impacts on the communities they exploit for water. Not only that but plastic bottles are also gathering in large quantities in the environment causing it harm.
This project was a unique compared to others that we have done in school. One thing that was different was that we were campaigning for something and we had to persuasive. In addition, we had the opportunity to be really creative and make advertisements, songs, or raps. This was something that was fun to create and it was also exciting to watch what our peers created. I think that having more resources could have produced even higher quality material. Overall, I am interested in having the chance to do something similar in the future. I think that the video projects were the most engaging because people had different approaches, ideas, and techniques. This produced originality and creativity that made it engaging. I think that the projects were successful. I think that our message of tap water would be more effective if it reached a larger crowd. Then more people would be more influenced to take action and make changes in lifestyle. Larger awareness can make great change to help the environment.
This scheme helped me learn a lot about NYC’s Water in many ways. I understand what is tap water and bottled water because this past two weeks we were discussing and learning about tap water vs bottle water. This project was amazing because we were working together in group of three and it was kind of fun working all together and learning from each other. This project helped me comprehend the safety of New York City’s water because is good to know about where water comes from and how they healthful for us to drink so our body can be energetic.Bottled Water Comes from the Tap so now i know because we were leaning about tap water and bottle water in class so now as a leaner i know where does bottle water comes from. The Prezi presentation was a great resource for this project because it helped us to understand and realize. This is the best project I've done in WHEELS and i'm so proud of myself because at first i was scare to present the project to my peers and now i feel very proud of myself. When i go to college i will not be scare to present a project to my peers i will be ready. It was nice seen all my peers presenting their project especially Jesus and Brandon it was nice and the story that Jesus read to us it was great. I'm still wondering why people are buying bottle water if the water that they drinking come from tap? i guess most people don't know what we know.

This project helped me gain a good amount of knowledge on the real reason and the unknown facts about our bottled water. It also led me to gain the well good facts about our NYC tap water. The project influence my personal actions to start now and not buy or really drink NYC bottle water. It helped because as I saw many projects show and explain their well reasons why we shouldn't drink bottled water and instead Tap water it allow me to think why am I really wasting money and drinking something that is almost the same as the water in my own home. Now I will switch to Tap water and save my own money and know for sure that my water is being check and is high quality. Now I think I have a better understand of the NYC water and how hard they really work along with the D.E. P to make 100 percent sure our water is clean and safe for all to drink. I enjoy doing this project it it was very creative and a new style to other projects I have had in the pass, MY favorite part was how we got to think outside the box to drag peoples attention for drinking Tap water. All the presentations and form were funny and entertaining to watch and most of all the way each person presented their work was great. Thanks to this topic and project I have been showing my own family and friends why water bottled isn't as good and instead why we showed love and not call our NYCTap water nasty or other names.

ReplyDeletewhile doing this project I understood the power of persuasion and how influential it is. Knowing what type of water to drink is important because it all goes back to our health and ads from big bottled water companies and using them to manipulate the truth. So while watching my peers present their own ads, I felt wooed and soon saw that that kind of power in the wrong hands can mislead others into into knowing the safety of tap water in NYC and other state tap water. In class, I don't get the chance to hear the way my peers paradigm is about where we get our tap water and from bottled water but because of this presentation I was able to not only hear it but see it which made it easier for me because I'm more of a visual type of person. This project was a first compared to other completed in school because I've never done a presentation like this is my time in WHEELS. I liked how Mr.Fox gave us our class time to actually prepare for this and how we weren't rushed, because I had a good time taking with time with it. What could of made my project better was being paired with more than just one person or having a no team member limit. The most engaging for me during this project was the Glogster part because I like trying new things and I was actually introduced to this and I'm hoping to utilize Glogster and Prezi for future projects like these in other classes.
ReplyDeleteThis project helped me piece together all the information and facts we have learned on bottled water and New York City's public drinking water. Writing out many facts on why tap water is just as safe if not safer to drink than bottled water has helped me gain a greater understanding on this topic. Despite all that, I will most likely not change my future actions. Nothing can change the fact that bottled water is too accessible and convenient. If I ever buy I reusable water bottle, it is inevitable that I will forget to fill it up and will just buy bottled water on my way to where ever it is that I need to get to. And despite all the damage I know bottled water can make, it is just hard to visualise the actual damage it is doing and take it all into perspective. Compared to other essays and papers I have done in other classes, this was by far my favorite simply because of the straightforward structure of it all. I knew exactly what to do when I began writing this position piece. Organizing my thoughts into an outline was almost unnecessary. As bad as it sounds, I like the little thinking it requires to write papers like this one as opposed to the analyzing necessary in other classes. I like a clear structure in my education, and I'd rather be that mindless robot doing what he is told in school than thinking for myself, which teachers are strongly emphasizing now, because that is how I think I succeed the most.
ReplyDeleteThe presentations that were shown in class was a fantastic way to make individuals aware that Tap water is better than bottled water in various ways. It showed me personally that bottled water is bad for the environment and it’s affecting both humans and marine animals. Knowing that tap water is tested more times a year than bottled water was very shocking and concerning to me because most of my life I’ve been buying and drinking bottled water, so does that mean that bottled water Isn’t really shown to be as healthy as they say. Now that my classmates project presented their appealing projects, I understand that changing my life style into drinking tap water can safe the number in marine animals death annually and the amount of plastic dumped in the ocean or landfills. Creating my own project with my group did help me understand that NYC tap water is safer to drink through research and what I had learn in class. Though the fact that shocked me the most was that plastic bottles are made from chemicals like PET that can causes horrible affects on humans over time, as well contains BPA that causes cancer. This is horrible, and in my opinion bottled water companies should be sued for selling unsafe products to people just to make money. It isn’t fair for anyone; at least they should have the dignity to include what kind of chemicals the water might have.
ReplyDeleteContributing to this project helped me make decisions that I wouldn’t have ever made if I hadn’t contributed to these projects. It has been a difficult journey trying to convince my mom that the big blue tank of water rom Poland Spring can contain BPA causing long-term affect in your body. Even though I know my mom wouldn’t make changes by stopping the monthly purchase of water, I have made few changes myself. One of those changes is that I have bought a rubbery green squeezable bottle that is BPA free. It’s reusable and not created with cheap plastic. This has changed my life because now I don’t buy water at the store anymore nor I have to worry about throwing away the bottle. Learning about bottled water has influence my way of being, and I am thankful for that, because now if I walk into a market and see a water bottle that looks amazing and cost more money, am going to say “no, it’s the same water I have in my house but for free”. The projects that were most engaging were the videos. It was really creative and persuasive; as well you could have told how hard the individuals worked on them. The videos were really fun to watch too.
Overall, I am really conformed to my effort in the project and my group as well. After having knowledge of what I have learned, I am hoping to be able to make a difference and spread the word to many people out there. This discussion is very important and should be faced rather than later because it will come to appoint where there is nothing we can do to fix desolation caused by human activity. I am hoping that one day the world will realize that it’s not always about being comfortable. Just because it’s less work to just buy a bottle than refill one of your own every time doesn’t give you the right to make up excuses. It’s time to stop being lazy, face reality and make a change.
This project helped me gain a better understanding of where NYC’s drinking water comes from and the bottled water industry after completing this project because I am now aware of where tap water comes from, the chemicals it contains and how it is cleaned. Before the project, I wasn’t sure where our water came from. To me the only important thing was that I can easily have access to it. Knowing that when I turn the faucet on, water came out was the only thing I cared about. After spending a few weeks learning where our water comes from, how it gets to our house and what exactly is in NYC’s tap water, to end it with a great presentation where we had to advertise tap water shows the outcome of what we’ve learned these past weeks.
ReplyDeleteThis project is better than any project that I’ve completed in school because of the different options we had to complete the project. For instance the Prezi or glogster, I never heard of those and was tempted to try them for my advertising presentation on tap water. Something I would say I would’ve liked to make it better was having more time to complete the project during class because of other work we had to do in other classes.
In the future, I would love to do something similar for another topic because I feel like this presentation helped me understand things I didn’t get before. Also I learned more facts from my classmates’ presentations not only mine, due to the fact that we did research online. Furthermore, I believe that the projects that were the most engaging were the prezi, video and rap because those types of projects engage and advertise the audience.
I believe that I have a better understanding of where NYC’s drinking water comes from and the bottled water industry after this project since it had allowed me to research further into both topics in order to provide a quality project that would be informative and accurate. Although I was able to use prior knowledge on the quality of both tap water and bottled water, learning more about where they come from was definitely something that allowed me to establish a solid opinion when it comes to choosing a side in the battle between tap water and bottled water.
ReplyDeleteDoing a project such as this one cannot really compare to the others I’ve completed so far in school; it was much more entertaining than the rest, so it has automatically become my favorite project. I liked the fact that we were all able to choose exactly how we wanted the information to be presented, and how we were able to show our creative sides. However, to make a project like this better, I would suggest having more time to complete the projects. I feel as if with more time, several of the projects could have been even better and would have displayed double the amount of creativity by the presenters. I know that in my group’s case, it was very difficult to assemble everything that we had in mind and wanted to do within the time frame that we had. I would be interested in doing something similar to this project in the future because I think that it engages the class in a way that a PowerPoint presentation cannot.
The types of projects that I thought were most engaging were ones where the group had added a video or a song to accompany their project. These two types of presentations helps the presenters catch the audiences’ attention quicker and for a longer period of time, especially if they are comical. The Prezi presentations were also very engaging since it was like a more entertaining twist on a PowerPoint presentation. All of these types of projects had, in my opinion, benefitted the group when it came to keeping their audience entertained as well as informed.
The project that I thought was the most helpful was making the prezi because we really had to gather all of our notes together and actually think about what we going to put on the prezi that can relate to and from thinking about the things that we had to put on the prezi we actually learned new thing well at least I did for example that the some of the chemicals that are in a bottle are harmful. This project also got me thinking differently about the use of bottle water and the amount of money that we waste on something that we can get for free right at our home and knowing this i have also persuaded some of my friends since tap water is the same thing as bottled water. What I liked about this project that makes it different from others is that this project allows us to be more interactive and I think that this project was fun since it affects everybody in the world what could've make this project much better would of been that if we had more time and more options on things that we could have done to present. I would be interested in doing another project similar to this one because it was a fun project and I learned a lot from it.
ReplyDeleteBy doing this project my view on NYC tap water has change a lot based on research and new information. My view on tap water has changed because after all the research we learned that bottle water is the same tap water just that companies trick u in to thinking is not to make money. This project influenced my future view because now I know that I need to save water because theirs only a 3% of the world water that we could actually use and instead of waisting i we should save it because over time we gonna need this water and our human pollution is growing which means we gonna need more fresh water for the world. One of the changes that ill try to do is buying less bottle water to create less landfills that affect earth in many ways. And something else ill do is try to persuade others about the dangers of bottle water.
ReplyDeleteAt the very beginning of the entire introduction to NYC tap water, I believed that tap and bottled water were the same. This entire experience on getting to understand where our tap water comes from and why it’s recommended to drink, versus where the bottled water starts and where it ends, opened up a part of me that has now begun to boycott bottled water.
ReplyDeleteAfter this project, I have a better understanding on why bottled is harmful and dangerous to our environment. For example, the alarming fact that only 5% of bottles actually get recycled and the rest are left decomposing in landfills in India. Also, bottles end up in garbage patches in the ocean which harm the land and ocean animals.
This project was the most exciting project I have done since 5th grade. This is because we were not limited to just one option. The array of options we were given allowed our creativity to open up and have fun with learning.
My favorite of all of the choices was the glogster. Although it was difficult to learn at first, it was interesting and fun to create my very own website.
This week in Environmental Science we have presented the projects that we have been working on lately. The point of this project was to include facts in a creative way in order to promote NYC tap water. This project has helped me understand that tap water is completely healthy in NYC. There is really no need to buy bottled water when we have perfectly good water here at home. That is why in the future, I’m really going to try to limit the amount of water bottles that I buy because now I know that the these plastic bottles are threat to my environment, health, and wallet. If anything, the only thing I will continue to buy is a water filter, simply because my building is very old so I do not know what kind of chemicals the old pipes in here might mix with NYC’s healthy tap water.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Mr. Fox’s lessons and my classmates’ presentations, I do have a better understanding of were our water comes from and the bottled water industry. Now that I know that some bottled water is the same as tap water, I see how much of a waste it is to spend money on something that I can get for free at home. Bottled water companies lie about where their water comes from but our tap water is no lie. It comes from well-protected reservoirs upstate like the Catskill-Delaware Reservoir and I would rather get that water at home for free than have to pay any amount of money for it.
Overall, these presentations were a pleasure to do and to watch. I honestly have never had so much fun making a school project for any other class. The reason why this project was so different was because we actually had the freedom to do whatever we wanted with our project. We had more room for creativity. I think that is the key to having a great presentation because the educational aspect of the project (the facts that we had to include) will come so much easier if the project is fun and if it’s something we actually want to do. It was so easy for my group to incorporate the facts into our project because we had the freedom to choose how we wanted to get our message across. I remember how much fun we had the whole time and how proud we were of our project and how anxious we were to present it! I definitely hope we do more stuff like this in the future.
I personally have already shown my mom and dad the project that my group did along with some of the other groups' projects and they were amazed by all the information we knew. My family is definitely going to stick to buying reusable water bottles instead of plastic bottles that will not get recycled. I wish more people in our community could see our projects because then more people will be on track to helping the environment and saving themselves money at the same time in a very simple, easy way.
The project help me understand more about the safety of NYC’s drinking water because, I it got me thinking about how fortunate NYC residents are to have free and clean water unlike other places that don’t have safe drinking water. That made me want to change my future actions about water because its a common that we share with the rest of the world. Therefore I’ll try to reduce the daily amount of water I use and use reusable water bottles instead of plastic bottles. Because I want to do my part to help the planet that we all share, the only one there is. That is why I don’t support the water industry after I was able to see the full picture of how the industry really works and able to understand how much of a con it is. After completing this project and getting all that I learned so far together in one place that was very beneficial. Because unlike other projects where we have to look for website and videos about the information, we had to gather it ourselves and present it to other students. Like in websites, raps and videos that were fun to see, but as well gave a lot of information about NYC tap and bottle water. These types of projects were the best kind because they showed the creativity of other students, that sometimes is lost when we only write papers and don’t have different approach options to present the information that we learned.
ReplyDeleteThe New York City tap water advertising project was a success for my group and I. I feel like we learned a lot about water and had fun doing it. My group decided to make a poster, a video, and a musical performance. We did a large amount of planning and we wanted to make sure that the information in our presentation was accurate. I really liked that this project encouraged students to investigate New York City tap water on their own. We use it every day, so it makes sense to have us understand the benefits associated with drinking tap water. First of all, it is far cheaper than purchasing bottled water even though it is more regulated. Bottled water doesn't have to undergo the vast amount of tests New York City tap water goes through. In addition, it's better for the environment because the plastic from bottled water takes centuries to bio-degrade. Therefore, tap water is the obvious choice.
ReplyDeleteI think that the video advertisements and the musical performances were the most engaging because they require the most creativity. It's easy to place facts on a poster, but incorporating these facts in a rap or in a series of video clips is far more difficult. I found that allowing students to be creative elevated the overall quality of the projects. Since the students felt that they had a huge amount of control over their project they placed a lot of effort into it and this shows that letting students be creative is the best way to have them learn. For example, my group made a rap and we had to make sure it was informational. We found creative ways to rhyme words so that our lyrics would be both catchy and meaningful. We also used students from other classes to have a live musical performance that helped our group stick out from others. I feel like this project made me into a tap water expert and it showed me that learning is only as fun as you make it.
This project was great and I am really thankful that Mr. Fox had us make this project because it is far different than any other project I have done before. In past projects I made a poster with other students and we didn't learn much because we weren't interested in what we were creating. That changed with this project because Mr. Fox allowed us to explore our musical tastes and to indulge in our media driven society. I wonder what affect it would have on all the students if all projects were like this for every class? It could be that students that usually don't perform well in school just need to be taught in this creative way. We could even use our videos to inform the community about New York City's tap water. Overall, this project was a great move on Mr. Fox's behalf and I hope that if we have more projects they are like this.
This project helped me understand more of the safety of water in NYC.Because we was all fool to think that bottle water is good for and healthy for us to drink, when is really not good for us to be drinking that much. For me at first I believed that tap water was dirty and not good for us, till now I learn that tap water is really good for us is better then bottle water because tap water has less chemical then bottle water. Also some people perfer drinking bottle water but they dont know that bottle water also has tap water in it. It has 47% of tap water in it. This project will influence my personal actions in the future because now I know that tap water is actually better then bottle water and I will make a change now that I know the real true I will start drinking tap water now. Now I will have a bottle fill with tap water.
ReplyDelete~Felix Guzman
This project we did in class about promoting the use of tap water was one that helped me understand the safety of our drinking water in New York City even further. The visuals presented in the presentations such as the diagrams and images of landfills helped me gain a better understanding about where plastic bottles really end up. Additionally through the facts mentioned in each presentation it become more clear that tap water was the better choice this was evident when groups mentioned that more than 40% of bottled water was actually tap water and that chemicals from plastic bottles can increase one's’ chances of getting cancer. The prezi and video projects were the one’s that I found most engaging because they can be made to have interesting features such as in the way the slides go from one to the other. The gloster and rap were also engaging one’s because they were unique.I believe I have a better understanding of where New York City’s water comes from after completing this project which is the Catskill/Delaware system, additionally I learned that the bottled water industry uses different methods of persuading us to buy their product. These methods include bandwagon which means that everyone is doing it so you should too, and comparison which is when companies compare their products to others, in order to make their own look better. Overall this project was one that was informative in an entertaining way.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all this project helped me understand how much better tap water is than bottled water. Especially with all the information that I and my group looked for on the web. It helped show me how many ways there is to convince people, to show them the importance between bottled water and tap water. Even though I had already made changes to drink tap water, I would try to help other people made changes in their life to try and convince them to drink tap water more instead of the tap water. Wasting there time on the bottled water, wasting money on it when they can have the free tap water they have been getting this entire time. This project helped compare with the other project is it showed me the different perspectives that the other students had based on the subject of tap water v.s bottled water. I think everyone did a good job, on their projects all the hard work they had shown and put into it.

For the project assigned to us, I felt a lot of anxiety towards it. Having to have three different types of presentations for our project was probably what made me feel anxious; the stakes were definitely raised because we weren’t just asked to get our campaign across using one method. However, it made it a lot more interesting. I especially liked that we had to interact with our ten facts about tap water vs. bottled water in three different ways. Having that kind of interaction with out facts had me memorizing them without realizing that I was. Now I can just spit facts about the benefits of tap water. Before this project, I wasn’t able to do that.
ReplyDeleteThe hardest task about this project was presenting the same facts in three different ways. Every single presentation had the same three facts. That made it very difficult to stay engaged during presentation because after the third one, I found myself saying ‘Okay… I get it. Tap water is better.’ There was no surprise factor or any new facts to create our slogan with. We stretched the fact that tap water is better than bottled water before the project that not much research had to be done. We already knew tap water outweighed bottled water.
Other than that, I feel that this project was a lot of fun. I got to be creative in ways I never did before. For example, I created a brochure online. I never use the internet for “fun”. I just use it to check my work and to socialize every now and then; but to do something productive like creating a campaign? That was rare. I think that that factor was what made this project especially fun and enjoyable for me.
My project on New York City tap water helped me understand more in depth the safety of our drinking water by demonstrating the facts and statistics and all the process the water must go through for us to be able to receive it.These implications influence my actions in the future weather if I should keep drinking bottled water or if I want to start drinking tap water in a reusable water bottle.Since one causes more damage than the other because it puts animal in danger with all the plastic the fishes eat and also puts us in danger since we eat fish and all those chemicals may end up in our body. The chemical oils that may go into the water that the plastic bottle brings.I might start using reusable water bottles instead because its at least one change that may help thousands of plastic water bottles be of the ocean and influence others into doing the same change. Now I have a better understanding of the water company industry I believe that their very convincing and manipulative so manipulative that they make most of us believe that tap water is harmful with all the good facts they give about their water bottle leaving behind that 45% of some water bottles contain tap water that we get at home for free. This project compared to others is more interesting because we could actually get creative than others that is mostly about writing the part I didn't like is that we had to do 3 things and I felt like I ran out of what to say or write that was my groups’ main struggle.
ReplyDeleteThe NYC Tap Water Campaign Project in Mr. Fox’s Environmental Science class helped me learn loads of new information on the dangers of bottled water and the benefits of tap water. The importance of promoting tap water was definitely made clear when students displayed their Prezis, raps, poems, posters and videos. It’s pretty surprising how one issue can be viewed with more importance. This project will help influence my personal actions in the future because it will help me be more cautious and conservative about drinking and wasting my money on bottled water. This project helped me move more towards being conscious of tap water- it is an infinite resource, I will seldom have to worry about it not being accessible to myself. I think I do have a better understanding of NYC’s tap water origins and the bottled water industry after this project. Prior to this project, I was not aware of the tricky tactics bottled water companies use to attract consumers. Some bottled water companies will try to seduce you with the designs on their bottles when in reality, they all derive from a municipal tap water system. This project compares to others I have done in school because it involved research, and creativity. I liked that this project was a persuasive one, which allows me to mix helpful information with promotion of NYC’s tap water. This project has been one of the best I have done in school, therefore I don’t think anything could have made it better- maybe an extra day or two to finish up, but that is all. I would be very interested in doing a similar project in the future, I found this project very fun. I think that the raps and the videos were the most engaging during the presentations, because they were very humorous yet interesting at the same time. They also focused on the main task- the promotion of NYC’s tap water. One thought that I have about this project is that... it has definitely made me view bottled water in a different way- for the worst.
ReplyDeleteThis project helped me understand the safety of our drinking water in NYC because we read articles and saw some facts about the water. Now I know that NYC’s tap water is monitored by the DEP in various locations. This project will influence my personal actions because I will try to not use bottled water. I saw how bad it is for the environment, like ending up in landfills or in the ocean.I also learned that a water bottle takes about 450 years to break down, I have a better understanding of where NYC water comes from and the bottled water industry because i got to research some of it and also watch videos and read articles.I learned that our water comes from the Catskill and Delaware watershed. I also learned that most bottled water companies use tapped water. When I did this project I got more information that I didn't know. This project compares to other projects I have completed in school because I learned a lot from it and I also had fun. Making the video was fun for us because we got to use creativity and we got to compare bottled water and tap water. We could have made the video longer and added more facts to the brochure. I would be interested in doing something like this in the future because I learned a lot from it and it was fun. The projects that were most engaging was when people presented videos and raps. They were the most interesting because they were fun to watch and included a lot of facts about bottled water and tap water.
ReplyDeleteThis week in class, I think that the presentations were an overall successful and very fun way to prove what we know about tap water and learn a few more things we didn’t know from our peers. What I really liked about these presentations was seeing how each group interpreted the task and incorporated their own ideas. I loved seeing everyone’s creative side, especially groups that had videos or songs. Not only were the presentations humorous, but they were informative too, unlike the traditional boring posters or PowerPoint presentations. The videos kept you engaged and the songs were catchy and entertaining to listen to because some were original and others were a spin on current popular songs.
ReplyDeleteWatching these presentations reminded me of how clean NYC’s water actually is. All of the information such as the DEP’s regulations and the fact that one third of bottled water is actually tap water really persuaded me to start drinking tap water more often. What really got me thinking was the fact that plastic bottles contain toxic chemicals that can cause cancer and other illnesses, something I definitely don’t want for those around me or myself. I think this time I will actually try to drink more tap water instead of always promising to do so and then resorting back to old habits. By drinking tap water, both the environment and I will benefit from it. Not only will I be able to help by stopping my own build-up of plastic bottles, but stop wasting as much money on something I can get anytime I need it at a much lower cost. Before, I would never drink anything that did not come from a sealed plastic bottle, but now, I see bottled water in a new light, and not a very good one.
This project made my overall understanding of tap water and the bottled water industry better. Now I can say I know where all of my water comes from and where it ends up. I can also say how bottled water works concerning deposits and what happens to the plastic when it is “recycled.” This project also made me recognize all of the advertising techniques bottled water companies use to make us all buy things that aren’t worth their cost or the consequences they cause. I think Mr. Fox’s idea to allow us to make these presentations was a smart and interesting way to truly make us learn something. With a little more time to prepare better presentations, I would definitely not mind doing another project like this in the future.
The bottled water vs. tap water project really helped. Even though we had already learned about it the project really opened my eyes. The projects reminded me of a commercial that repeats itself with the same theme. But the cool thing about these projects was that since they were all so different and unique it was interesting what each group did. This project has been the only project in high school so far that I’ve enjoyed because we were able to choose what to do, how to do it, and get creative with it. Hearing frequently makes me think every time I see a water bottle. I’ve even started to tell my family and friends how the bottled water business is manipulating us and how tap water is undervalued in its quality. This project really opened my eyes about bottle waters and their harm. I wish all projects were as opened for our creativity.

This project was very interesting and creative because you had to lay it out in three different ways.Which also showed if you really understood the difference between bottled water and tap water. This project helped me better understand the difference between bottled water and tap water because you had to really get into detailed to explain why bottled water is the same water coming from your faucet. It made sense to me that I had to really explain why bottled water is bad and how tap water is better because you cant just state something and not prove it. Especially water because it's something that people drink every day and people wouldn't want to believe tap water is better then bottled water because they're stubborn and also hypnotized by bottled water companies advertisement.Since I learned the truth about bottled water I've been trying to explain to my family and friends about how they should stop buying bottled water but it isn't that easy because some of my family think I'm actually crazy because they are stubborn. Also, there has been many times when I've been in stores and I see people buying water suddenly I wanna tell the people buying bottled water about the unnecessary money they are wasting on bottled water.Which could be spent on something else but then again people wouldn't want to believe me but maybe I'll try one day. At the beginning of this project I was being ignorant because I kept on saying to myself who cares about tap water bottled water taste better but when I started to learn more about how both waters are the same it got me more interested because I always thought tap water was bad.As we in class kept on going into more details about tap water vs bottled water I then saw how important it was to actually let people know about bottled water. What I liked about this project was that it was actually fun to create and explain. It's better then other projects I done in school because it was something everybody enjoyed viewing and creating. For example I liked the raps and videos created because it really connected to the idea of bottled water vs tap water. I think more projects like these should be created because its a interesting way to learn rather then just to write a paper or creating a poster for people to read which I know most people don't really like to do.
ReplyDeleteThis week was intense but fun in the end. Especially in a group of students with distinct schedules, it got really hectic when planning when to stay after school and for how long. But in the end, the hard work from most groups, really payed off with the quality of their projects.
ReplyDeleteThis project helped me understand the safety of our drinking water in NYC because I was able to visually see diagrams and watch videos and even listen to songs/raps without forgetting the meaningful content. The types of projects I think were the most engaging when presented, were the glog, prezi and videos. The prezi is really engaging because if done well, it can speak for itself. The glog is also really engaging because it can include different topics in different formats and even a video. And a video is engaging because if made correctly, it captures the audience’s attention and can serve as a powerful tool. Especially since I am more of a visual learner, I think after completing this project, I now have a better understanding of where NYC’s drinking water comes from and the bottled water industry itself.
And since I actually learned from doing this project, I was influenced to make some personal actions in my future. I really think after this project, I will make some changes in my actions because I no longer want to be part of the problem, I want to help resolve it . Like my slogan in my prezi said, “Take back the tap”, I actually am taking back the tap. I purchased a WHEELS water bottle, BPA free and I refill it with tap water daily. Instead of purchasing a harmful plastic water bottle, I am saving money and saving the environment by not harming the poor beautiful creatures. I also showed my family the video my group and I did, along with the prezi and I am more than happy to say they are convinced as well. Because my group’s presentation was really persuading, my family is now on the way to become more eco friendly and follow my footsteps into making sure we help not hurt our environment.
From doing this project, I learned that creativity is definitely key. Compared to other projects I’ve done at school, this one was unlike any other. I liked the fact that we were able to choose our group members, but it would have been a bit more interesting if it were possible to encompass different classmates from other periods. It was also cool that we had the opportunity to use different “actors” for our videos, like counselors, teachers, and even random individuals roaming the streets. I also liked how we had time to work on the project during class, because some groups were not able to meet up and stay after school. And overall, I actually really liked this project, so I would definitely be interested in doing something similar in the future.

ReplyDeleteThis week in class i believe that this project helped us learn while having fun in class. I liked the way we presented in class and showing what we have learned about NYC tap water vs bottle water. I had a good experience doing my project because i learned how to do something new. My favorite project was the rapping because it allowed people to get creative with there learning and show there understanding of tap water vs bottled water. I like how some students made there presentation funny so the audience would get entertained about the message the presentation was giving. I feel good about learning about the two because i now can tell my parents not to buy water bottles and explain to them why not to buy them.
ReplyDeleteKenneth Rufino 4th period environmental science class
This project has showed us that when we keep buying water bottles it creates problems for the world, like for example gyres and windrows that are located in oceans and its a circular motion of plastic bottles that most likely end up on sea shores. Also for example according to the video that the students saw in class where fishers catch fish and they opened up the fishes organs and there was a lot of plastic in their stomach. This would affect humans because we use fishes as food source. This project will affect my personal actions in the future because now that i see where plastic bottles end up, i would buy a reusable bottle which benefits me finacially.
ReplyDeleteThis project is different from other projects because in this project there are many options and creativity you can perform in order to show your understanding of the bottled water problems. What i liked about the project was the advertisment techniques commonly used in water bottle commercials and how commercials persuade you to buy bottled water. What couldve made this project better is if there were more ways to present your project in understanding bottled water facts. Yes i would be interested in doing something similar in the future because i enjoyed making a rap to persuade people to buy bottled water.
I think the most engaging way to present the project was between the rap and videos. Rap because you can say all the facts about how bad using bottled water is, rhyme it, and make sense of it in a song. Video because they can use emotion appeals, comedy, and celebraties to persuade you to stop buying bottled water.
I would like to do this project again because i really enjoyed learning facts about something in a non-boring way.
The New York City Tap water advertisement project was a powerful way to introduce the idea and differences between tap water here in New York and bottled water. In my opinion it was a very interesting way for groups, such as mine, to help inform those who are struggling to choose between bottled water and tap water, also to inform the public what are the dangers of choosing bottled water over tap water. Although I did know prior from the project that tap water was in fact cheaper, I did not know that bottled water had chemicals that leeched into the water which causes internal damage to our bodies.
ReplyDeleteThanks to the class presentations I was able to be more secure about the idea of choosing tap water rather bottled water because there were countless facts that were shocking yet informative which supports why I choose bottled water instead. One of these facts was, “in a survey by the NRDC, 47% of people drink bottled water because they are worried about health and safety”, ironically enough this is an unintelligent decision because “more than 45% of bottled water is actually tap water”. Showing me how these bottled water industries take of advantage of the public tap water, by incasing it in plastic bottle and selling it for a profit, using unique techniques to advertise the water. These facts that I now know makes me think twice about buying water at the local store, instead making me want to buy a reusable bottle water, which is a smart economical choice because battled water on average costs two 1000ths of a penny per gallon. Also, being economically friendly because it reduces the waste and reduces the bottles sent to foreign countries to be piled up.
Although there were many types of presenting the differences about bottled water and tap water, I believe a video was the most creative and had the most impact on the mindset of people because we could see actual reactions of people when faced with the situation that water is both similar in a bottle and through tap. Overall, this project was a creative, informative and fun way to learn about the differences about water bottled because it shows the effectiveness of how facts impact our choices

DeleteThis project helped me to learned and understand more about water. As I did my project with my partner and did my research I learned a lot more facts about tap and bottle water. This project and what we learned in class help me to realize the safety of the water we drink. Every one in knows that bottle water is the best to drink because you are basically playing for free water. I believe that a lot of people learned a lot because that had to go back to notes and find facts about tap and bottle water to put I'm your project. My partner and me had to also look for information on the Internet to find more information to back up the side you picked. This project influence me to stop buying bottle water and buy and reusable water bottle so that I can save my money. This projects that we did can help influence many others people into stop drinking and buying water bottles.
ReplyDeleteThis project was helped for me understand the safety water that we drink everyday. I found that the most helpful was prezi because you could add your ideas / details and also to be creative , my group and i gather information from our notes and from web . I learned that tap water is better , safety ,fresher than botteld water because bottled water has to much chemical which can cause diseases and sickness. After completing this project i think that i have a better understanding of NYC tap water and where it come from.
ReplyDelete`Nadine Gomez 6th pd class`
This project was very interesting and to come to think of it I like how it came out instead of the regular posters we used websites so get are message across. We all gave it our best and I was proud to see everybody presentation whether it was a rap or a poem form a skit or even a commercial. Your idea of this project should be share with the whole wheels community.
ReplyDeleteThis project diffidently made me think twice about buying plastic water bottles. I remember showing my mother my prezi and she was shock on how much information she didn't know about water companies from how many plastic bottles are actually recycled to where they actually end up. All facts that are unaware to the public and this project meant to inform the public.Overall I hope we learn about another issue that effect the world that the public isn't so aware about and present it in a project again like this one.
This project helped me understand that NYC’s tap is cleaner than Bottled water. Before we took this journey on tap water , I didn't really have a preference on which water was better. But now I know that bottle water isn't safe at all. This project was something kinda in school because we actually , took the time and learned step by step from where we get our water, and how does it get to our house , and where does it go afterwards. I really enjoyed this project , but what I enjoyed the most was seeing everyone's project I think it made the class bond in ways we never really do. It was really funny and I enjoyed it , hope we do another similar project. Doing projects like this can better our understanding on different topics. Throughout the learning of bottle water I've encouraged my mom to stop buying bottled water because , I learned that plastic consist of a cancerous chemical known as benzene. “Tap water is where is at!”
ReplyDeleteThis week our classmates have been presenting many of their tap water campaigns in class to promote tap water over bottled water. In the process of completing my own campaign and watching the ones of my classmates I have learned many new amazing things that tap water has more beneficial than bottled water. I am, or at least I was a daily consumer of bottled water in particular the well known Poland Spring. Then, while researching where the water from bottled water comes from and what is put into it in some ways worried me and surprised me.These projects taught us facts like 45% of bottled water is from the tap, chemicals that are harmful to humans and leak into the water etc. There are many more facts behind the truths of bottled water. These projects taught me that our tap water is healthier, checked thousands of times for safety, and is naturally filtered and brought to us by nature. What also made these projects so useful was the creativity that was put into them. For example, the raps and poems were exceptionally creative and original to the point that I thought we weren't going to be able to pull it off. The projects overall were a great success and a great way of learning new important material in a fun, active, creative way. I learned a lot about the one thing I've been spending my money on if I can get a better product for no cost, and the in the turn of a nob. From now on,TAP WATER ALL THE WAY!!!! -Rafael Ballenilla 11C 12/09/2012
ReplyDeleteThis project helped me understand the value of tap water and the truth behind water bottle companies. I found out that tap water from NYC is the most cleanest and freshes water in the country. I dont see myself making any changes in my drinking water ways. If i ever have a moment where I need to drink tap water I would do it without a problem or thinking thst the water is dirty , I now know that the water is not dirty which is a very good thing. After doing the project with my group and listening to other of my peers present there projects I really understand where my water comes from and how bad water bottle itself can be. I find it crazy how fishes eat plastic and is later notice in there body when they slice open , thats something very disturbing to watch it makes me wonder if I ever ate a fish with plastic inside. What I liked about this project was that we had various way in presented our projects to persuade other people of why they should drink more tap water and not bottle water. Something I would do differently if I ever came across a project like this is put in the time in my project I didnt put any time to my project which caused my presentation to be the way I didnt want it to be.
ReplyDeleteWith all the presentations that were done during my period, they were all very interesting and entertaining. The way that presentations were planned to be presented were amazing and I feel that if the class enjoyed each presentation, many people from outside of school can enjoy as well. Not only will they enjoy it, they’ll probably get attached to the message that each presentation is trying to inform to the audience. This helped me realize and encouraged me more to reduce the use of the plastic water bottles, recognizing the fact all the damages that the plastic water bottles can do to our community and the rest of the world. As I said before, I would definitely make changes to the decisions I make before buying plastic water bottles.
ReplyDeleteWhen viewing these presentations, it helped me have a better understanding of where water came from, but I feel as if I would need more of a reminder once in a while of where our drinking water comes from because I tend to forget. Either way, I feel that I’m capable of answering the question of how does the water come to each individual’s house.
Honestly, this is one of the unique projects I’ve ever done. I’ve never had to complete my presentation using different types of amazing websites. What I loved about doing this project is that we didn’t have only one option, we had various options to choose from and I hope that I can have this type of opportunity in other classes. What I also loved is that I had the opportunity to discover and enjoy new websites that I can able to use in the future. The projects that really caught my attention were Prezi, and the video. I loved Prezi because of all the actions and movements the screen would have with a click of a key from the keyboard. I really like the part where it zooms from one part to another, trying to make things clearer and more engaging. I love the video as well because we can be able to see the decisions people are able to choose in real life when it comes to either choosing tap water or bottled water. I would love to this type of project again and actually put more interest to these types of projects than before.
This week’s environmental science class was very productive in the sense that we had the opportunity to see a lot of different campaign adds supporting tap water and opposing bottled water. All of the different types of projects my classmates did and all the lessons we took surely made a change in the way I see tap water and bottled water. For two weekends all ready I decided to go and exchange the bottles that I had at home for money. That’s a change all these lessons and campaigns did to my life. I honestly feel that we cannot stop the bottle water business but we could diffidently help out our environment by recycling our bottles and also by not purchasing any more bottles that would eventually end up on our oceans. I also decided to inform my family and close friends about the benefits of tap water in New York State. Most of my family was actually surprised by the facts I told them, just like how I was when I first found out. I am sure that each and every single student that takes environmental science in wheels informs at least 10 friends about the reality of tap water we could make a small change in our neighborhood. I was capable of informing people about tap water and bottled water because of all the information that I provided in class and also all the research information I did on my time for my project with my other partners. This project was something very different compared to other group projects I done in other classes. On this project I felt like everything was completely even, all the work and effort .At least I could say that for my group. It was something I really enjoyed. My favorite part about it was doing research on school with my actual partners. I liked the time we had because we had the chance to sit down and actually discuss what we were going to do, how were we going to do it and who was in charge of what. Usually projects with no time in school go bad because of the lack of communication. I actually enjoyed it so much that I wish I could do something similar in the future. The Prezi and the Glog websites we used in the project are something I diffidently want to use more often for other classes and other projects that use presentations. Out of all the different type of options we had the rap was the most engaging one in the sense that it’s very hard to compose words that rhyme and go with a beat therefore it takes a lot of time, creativity and effort.
ReplyDeleteThis project, so far, has been the best school project. Me and my group enjoyed working on it, it gave us a chance to show our creativity in learning about NYC tap water and bottled water. Making the video taught us how little people know about tap water and bottled water and how surprised they were when they learned that or little test of "tap water" and "bottled water" were actually both tap water, revealing that our tap water is actually bottled water.
ReplyDeleteWe learned so much about where our water comes from and how it gets to our homes. This whole unit influenced me to not buy bottled water and continue using the filter at my house to refill one bottle. The plastic of bottled water also may contaminate the water because of a chemical called benzene, causing diseases, which makes it less appealing for me to consume. Additionally, watching "Tapped" changed the way I saw big bottled companies, who's main focus was to make profit off of small town's rivers and lakes, and make them their own, such as Néstle, who are the biggest bottled beverage company.
This project helped me understand the safety of our water due to the numerous requirements the completion of the project gathered. From the evidence gathering to the publishing and watching of the presentations, every day I was learning something about water. In the future I will try to educate those around me who still don’t know what plastic is doing in our environment so they can apply these changes if they choose to or some adaptation. I will also try to explain the similarity of the sources where bottled and tap water comes from since it’s been a huge topic in the project.
ReplyDeleteCompared to other projects this one has been really unique even though it had some of the same requirements as the other one. I can’t explain it but it just felt different the way the project was assigned to the completion of it. One thing I did like about the project is all the creativity everybody put in the making of them. The end result was really great. I would like to do something similar to this in the future since it was not only informative but fun as well to do. From all the different selections available I think the videos were the most engaging because the crowd wasn’t expecting the approach the creators would take to present facts about water, thus grasping their attention. I too enjoyed they raps which were very rhythmic and catchy. Overall this project was really fun and I recommended again for next year’s students.
After completing this project, I feel that I have a much better understanding of the bottled water industry since I now know that the majority of bottled water is simply tap water. I didn’t really think about where bottled water came from. I just assumed that it was cleaner than tap water. I think the safety precaution with tap water is simply that people don’t trust the pipes in their building. Hopefully, from now on I’ll try drinking more tap water instead of always buying bottled water, especially since it would be a big money saver. I think getting a filter would also help because my family really doesn’t trust the pipes in our building. It also makes me wonder if I should get a water testing kit so that I can see if we really should take precautions with our tap water. I already understood where NYC’s drinking water came from before completing the project but I do think its retained in my mind now.
ReplyDeleteCompared to other projects that I have completed in school, I found this one to be very fun and entertaining. We all have seen commercials and most of us have commercials we really enjoy so I think it was really cool that we got the chance to do some advertising of our own. I especially loved the commercial option for the project since that allowed us to be creative and entertained while working on the project and simultaneously giving us a learning experience. I definitely think that there should be more time given for this project in order to make it better in the future. Although some people might have found the time to be fine, things like making songs and commercials take time so that should be taken into account. I don’t think it takes the same amount of time to make a poster as it does to make a commercial or a song. I think I would be interested in doing something similar to this in the future. The only thing is that I don’t think we should have to do so many things. We all had to pick three options. I think doing 2 would be better so that we can focus our energy on those 2 projects and produce quality work since there is work to be done for other classes.
I think the most engaging types of projects were the videos and the songs since everyone was entertained by the videos and the songs. The prezi’s and the glog’s were engaging but not as much since I felt-at least from the presentations I saw-that those who did prezi’s and glog’s were simply reading off what they wrote and that can be boring for some people.
During this project I learned many facts about tap water and bottle water. Bottle water is the same thing as tap water, which i didn't know cause when i would drink bottle water i would think it taste different but actually is the same thing as tap water, it is tap water. Through out all these years I and many other people have been wasting money on bottle water when is the same as tap water and we could tap water any where. This project was and excellent idea to compare tap water and bottle water because now many people our classmates could save their money and just drink tap water. i think everyone did a great job on their project and hopefully their would be a another project fun as this one.
ReplyDeleteThis week water advertising campaigns were shown in class. I must say that as a student I actually enjoyed watching these presentations because I had the chance to see what everyone knew and learned about water during the past months. It was clear to me that even the people who I never hear in class had a perspective and tap water and basically we all believe that bottled water needs to be eliminated, not the tap. While completing this project, this project helped me understand the safety of our New York City drinking water since I was able to share my ideas and opinions with my classmates Jianny and Nadia. I think the project will influence my actions in the future because although I now believe tap may be better, I may still drink bottled water. Since my mother constantly buys bottled water, I guess I will have to consume them. Anyways, I’m still alive and water is still tasteless. Furthermore, after completing this project I feel I have a better understanding of New York City’s water supply and the water industry because I did not have to just learn facts about water but actually become creative and apply them in pieces that reflected how much information was retained during class. It is evident to me that since my group did well and we worked well together that activities like this should be done more often. Additionally, I really liked this project because I was able to apply actual techniques used in commercials. However, I did not like the fact that some groups were more prepared than others. As a senior surrounded by other high school students I think it’s fair that all groups should be prepared to present as teachers are usually prepared to teach a lesson. I think what could’ve made the project better was if more trips were made to have actual experience pictures for the presentation. Based on all presentations I thought the best ones were the poem/rap ones as well as the video ones because it was visual and kept the audience entertained. This is mainly because since people usually like to hear music and see images it keeps them focused and eventually persuades them while also grasping onto the message. Overall, I hope communities raise awareness for tap water and hopefully change can be made towards chemicals and other harmful factors.

ReplyDeleteDoing this project helped me realize the pureness and importance of water. Before this whole month of learning about water I always thought bottled water was always safer to drink than tap water. but after each lesson it came to me that tap water does not only taste better but its healthier and environmental friendly. Before this project I did not know things such as chemicals releasing from the bottle after a while being left in the sun, I didn’t know what a Gyre was and I didn’t know that a large percent of used bottles end up in backyards of people in India. Bottled water even if we don’t pay much attention to it, comes back to not only hurt people but the Earth itself. After this project and this whole water lesson we did I think that I will think more before I buy a bottle of water or throw or loiter in the streets? This project also helped me understand more of how our water gets to us , where it goes when we are done and how it is treated to come back to us. I think the best part of this project was being able to us strategies to learn about water was the rap. Because not only was it interesting because we are rapping but it was funny and was able to learn facts at the same type. So overall this project was helpful because it helped us understand more, get more facts into our head and have fun.
ReplyDeletePart of me is still hard to believe that tap water that comes straight from your faucet is cleaner and healthier than water in water bottles. I actually tested it out myself before the project while learning about NYC tap water by actually performing a taste test. Tap water versus bottled water. They both taste the same to me. The only difference was when testing the waters, I held the two cups in the air slightly above my eye level seeing the clearness in them. I noticed that the bottled water was clearer than the tap, the tap was a little foggy but then turned clear. At that point is was a tie.
ReplyDeleteHowever, It is also hard to believe that recycling plants do not recycle the bottles and other plastics. They just dump it all into landfills, oceans, and in India. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) program encourages us to recycle in order to save the earth, try to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment and try to slowly stop Global warming. It is misleading to us as citizens who some want to help and live in a sustainable environment. In a way it is interesting and funny to me that I know this information more than some of my other teachers. I’ve informed them how tap water is healthier than bottled water and how the recycling plants do not recycle rather than they just throw it into landfills, India and Oceans where the animals ingest the plastics into their body. A teacher states,“ Wow are you serious!” “Yea. The recycling plants don’t recycle the plastics they mostly dump it into India, landfills, and Oceans.” “So does that mean the bottles I recycle in those blue bins over there aren’t being recycled! Wow that’s crazy man!” “Yup, I know right, that’s the same reaction I made when I learned that too.” It goes to show you that advertising campaigns do not always tell you the truth.
For the NYC tap water project, it was interesting as to how we had to become sales representatives and try to convince people to drink tap water and inform them how healthier it is than bottled water. In a way we were like the sales representatives in commercials trying to convince the people to drink and buy water from these famous brands like Poland Springs, Dasani, Aquafina and much more Those representatives advertise how cleaner, purer, healthier and safer it is than the other water brands. We weren’t trying to make the viewers buy anything we just wanted to inform them about the glorious thing, tap water, it’s safe to drink it’s free and comes straight from your faucet in seconds. Tap water is the way to go!
This project made me realize the importance in not abusing the use of bottled water and how unsustainable it is. I feel like if I was thirsty I would think twice before I go and buy a bottle of water. I feel like if I ever want water I would think about how bad I need the water. Bottles end up in the oceans that the fish we eat are at. This means at the end of the day we are eating plastic. Bottled water has nothing on tap water. About 47% of bottled water comes from tap water. Companies are taking our free tap water and selling it to us.
ReplyDeleteCompared to other projects this was a very interesting and fun project. This helps me pay attention and actually learn something. When I am given the option to work with whoever I want and given the opportunity to do pick what I want to do as a project it keeps me interested in the subject. The only thing I would change is to be given more time on the project. In the future I would love to do another project similar to this project. I think the glogsters and raps were the most engaging because it made everything just that more creative. It didn’t feel like another dull project, it felt like something new and interesting project. Plus I learned about different commercial techniques that these water companies use. This helps me not fall for these ads and go buy bottled water.

This project helped me understand how safety and also healthy our tap water is. For example when the groups presented and stated their facts it made me realize that tap water is accentually healthier and more safe then bottled water. Also it made me realize how people easily get fooled into wasting money on a plastic bottle that has water when they can get free water from their house and would also save money by doing it. I think this project does not compare to any other project that I have done in the past years because it included a section which was creativity which was up to us to make a rap song or anything else that included a poem and a poster and many other options which made this project unique. The only thing is that if there would have been more time in this project we could of done a better and more efficient work. I think projects like this should be giving more often because it really makes it more interesting and I saw my friends excited to do their videos which was a pretty amazing thing to do. The part of the project that was more engaging was the videos because people actually had fun doing it and it looks like they took their time to put everything together and also to edit the video so it could come out perfect the day of the presentation. I have a better understanding of where our water comes from because in almost every presentation they included where the water came from and also talked about how bottled water industry used tap water to fill up their plastic bottles and made a profit from it and how their bottles harm the earth such as marine life.
ReplyDeleteThis project made me understand safety of our drinking water in NYC because NYC tap water is drinkable cause NYC test our water 1,000 of time per year and it is safe to drink. This project will influence my personal actions in the future because it will show me that i dont need to spend my money every day on bottle waters and a smart way to save money and this maybe change my action now because now that i notice it is true what every one is saying. And i now that NYC have one of the cleanest water that comes from Delaware. This project compares to others i have in school because we need to chose one topic and writer and present it to my class and tell them how its is good for our environment and to us. The most engaging part of the project was the rap cause every thing about tap water and bottle water where incloudet inside.

this project made me to understand the nyc tap water because its really clean and healthy and i believe that its better than bottled water which it is and this will change my actions for the future because now that i can get clean water for free then i dont have to spend too much money on bottled water because its not clean and i would rather have free tap water from my house then having to spend a dollar on each bottle of water i wanted to buy and this project is compared to other poeples projects because we all had to do a project tap water vs bottled water but we all did different things like we had to say how bad or good the water is to the environment and the poeple. i think that the most enganging part of this project is where we did a rap song about it and also a very nice prezi which had all the positive facts about tap water and how good it was to the environment.

This week we had to present the concept tap vs. bottled water in many creative ways. This project help me learned the many ways tap water is beneficial and how tap water is always there when I need it. This prject helped me understand the importance of the availability of tap water that we posses because i came to understand how not everybody is as lucky as many of us that we have a great access to clean, fresh, and healthy water. So yes I would change my actions because I know the harmful outcomes of purchasing bottled water. Because not only does it harm our environment but it also harms many people around the world. But after all this time I still struggle to understand how does the process of the many water industries occur in order to maintain our water clean and fresh as we have seen lately.
ReplyDeleteThis week in Environmental Science we have presented the projects that we have been working on lately. The point of this project was to include facts in a creative way in order to promote NYC tap water. This project has helped me understand that tap water is completely healthy in NYC and that we now could stop drinking water bottles and start drinking tap water instead of bottle of water we could make a advertisement saying "Don't drink bottle water is bad and 45% of bottle water is tap water and said that what is the point then of drink bottle of water if is tap water but we now that they just make does bottle of water because they just want some money.
