  1. Throughout our class I knew there were going to be certain topics we would learn about that are going to be about how it effects our planet and for most part anticipated that it was going to be mostly categorized as a bad thing. I started off with a neutral mindset when learning about Hydrofracking, but after much learning and hard thinking about the certain things that are necessary sacrifices for the greater good, I decided that I was for Hydrofracking. This very controversial topic in our class helped me find out something about myself and it was that I favor mostly energy security then environmental safety. That's why it's supposed to be allowed in New York because it's the kind of economical boost this country needs to overcome our economic recession and prosper once more. Enabling hydrofracking will create thousands of job, helping those in need, also we'll be getting energy from our own country, thus limiting the interaction with other foreign countries to get this kind of energy. The documentary Gasland didn't influence my position on Hydrofracking because I already had a set and stoned position on it and I was for Hydrofracking. Seeing the film I felt it was bias because it only shown us negatives about it and nothing positive about it. Honestly I do admit there is certain flaws in Hydraulic Fracking but there is positives to it and the film didn't show any of it.

  2. When we first started learning about Hydrofracking I was unaware of the details of this topic. But the knowledge I have learned has helped me realize how ignorance has blinded our society from being interested in huge factors in our everyday life. When we first started this relatively controversial topic I was pro-Hydrofracking but I started to doubt its actual benefit when Ian Urbina came to discuss about it. Ian Urbina had really researched this topic and coming from an ordinary person who can really have an unbiased opinion I took into consideration all of his counterpoints to the “pros” of Hydrofracking. I found Gasland as just more statistical proof of the disadvantages of Hydrofracking. Gasland was biased but I believe that made its point even stronger because with all the negatives fracking causes its few benefits aren’t worth it. Hydrofracking should not be allowed in the United States much less in NY because the little regulation they have can cause extreme ecological effects. Our general dependability on foreign oil is not greatly affected by natural gas. If the United States is looking for an alternative, renewable energy is an option. This may cost more but it can help in a major way and help our environment by starting a new ecological way of living.

  3. The issue over hydrofracking has always been a concern for me ever since I’ve gained knowledge over the critical topic. Even though the access of natural gas may be beneficial to America economically, it’s not guaranteed safety. The benefits may sound amazing but behind every positive there is a negative pull. Consequences come along when these hydrocracking companies try to experiment with our environment. The ambition for profit and the hunger for a powerful economy have taken us into a stage of disappointment, risks and disastrous among the place people mostly admired.

Money will never be more valuable than a person’s life or what Mother Nature has to offer because money is reproduced while natural recourses are not. It is a shame how hydrofracking companies won’t take in consideration that our water is priceless and not found easily. The process of hydrolic fracturing uses up to 1 to 7 million gallons of water. They say the water is recycled, but where? In the movie Gasland, when water is done being used, the companies dump it back in the river without any sort of sanitation. How am I or any person suppose to feel safe drinking tap water if I know that natural gas companies are not safely using the water but instead polluting the water, along with all the bad chemicals used throughout this process. It is not to blame all on the companies. The state has to do very much on these actions. Oil and gas companies have been excluded from the Safe Drinking Water Act. This gives the companies the right to do what ever they want because they don’t have specific strict standards. The Safe Water Cleaning Act shouldn’t be gentle on these companies especially because those are the kind of people we should be frighten of. Our Drinking resource is being put in danger because of the process used by all these business and unfair regulations.

NY State tap water is one of the cleanest are secure drinking water there is. Therefore Hydrofracking shouldn’t be allowed in NY Sate Ever. It shouldn’t even be considered because that would just be cruel and brutal to our city’s stability. As previously discussed, allowing hydrofracking in the city of New York will only put at risk our drinking water way. If our tap water were ever to become polluted and unsafe to drink, than we’ll have to rely on bottled water, which is what we’re trying to avoid. We need to realize that hydrofracking doesn’t really benefit us but the companies. The companies try to manipulate the process as an opportunity to get out of misery. The disperse of these hrofracking companies will only bring desolation to our loving earth and cause an extinction to our most valuable resource when it’s already been at risk for years.

The Gasland film really made me realize that them more people become aware of this issue the more support we have to reject and go against these companies. It’s an abomination that these people are so egoistic to even consider the damage and risk their new evolved infrastructure may cause. The worst part is that they try to keep a secret the type of chemicals used for the process. They know these chemicals may harm us and they don’t care one bit about us our land or most importantly our health. Hydrofracking in NY state would not benefit the economy but destroy it through all the expenses that would have to be made if something ever goes wrong.

  4. What I have learn of hydro frocking over time is that it has pros and cons to the environment , because before watching the film I thought that it would benefit the environment and economical. This cause more jobs opportunity and farms getting paid for having them hydro frocking in there area. But now after the film and the guest speaker Ian Urbina I know that hydro frocking is bad for the environment because its damaging millions of gallons of water with chemical that causes our water to turn into fire.

No I don’t think that hydro frocking should not be allowed in the New York States because it would damage our water with chemicals , a lot of animals will die and habits would be destroy , also most humans will get sick not knowing that there water in contaminated with theses chemicals.

After Viewing the film “Gas Land “ I think different about hydro frocking, at first I was for it now am against because I believed it was helping us but really it was damaging our land ,people ,animals and mostly peoples health. Also the people in charge of hydro frocking are using thousands of chemical that they know is not good for us and are keeping it a secret. So the law of hydro frocking should not be passed in the New York States.

  5. I think hydrofracking should not be aloud in new York state because it is so close to the city which is a bad thing because if the fracking fluid get into the city's water supply then it would caused problems for the city and the hydrofracking company's which is bad because new York city has a high population and if people leave then it destroys the city's reputation if they let hydrofracking in New York state.

With the film it made my idea of going against hydrofracking because in the film it show that the hydrofracking company have been hidding information about there product and other thing that would hurt the health of people and animals in the area ,yes it can help people earn money but the effects on hydrofracking to people health cause more then a couple of dollars ,but on thing that I also say is that people are starting to care when it's in area were theirs a lot of people in the area but doesn't have a have a lot of people there calls for help are not heard till it's to late.

  6. Throught the past few weeks we were learning about hydrofracking and how hydrofracking has Benefits and issue in many ways. I knew we were gonna learn topic that are good to know and it has being affecting our environment in negative way and positive. Throught knowledge i have being realizing that we suppose to learn what things are affecting our lives and especially our environment because if we don't learn those things then in the future it will affect us more, and more if we don't do nothing about it. when we first started leaning about hydrofracking i was against and then i was realizing that hydrofracking is no bad after all because it has issues and benefits. This topic helped me a lot and it helped me realize that there always bad things that can affect us and good things in many ways. Also we saw a film that has to do with hydrofracking that the name of the film was Gasland and it was about how people were reacting because there water is being contaminated And this connect to hydrofracking because hydrofracking has to do with natural gas and contamination and in the film i noticed that company have been hiding information witch has been affecting the people and there health. Hydrofracking is beneficial because it can allowed more jobs and people earning more money but it has some issue that has being impacting the people in negative way.

  7. In my believe my I think it should not be allowed in New York State because of how other states already been affected by hydrofracking. The people that been affected by hydrofracking will never have a normal life any more because by drinking the water it led them to having a disease. The film Gasland has changed my opinion in hydrofracking because before I was for hydrofracking now I'm against it because the film finally showed me how people were getting affected and also how animals were getting affected because the chemicals were also getting to the rivers and that's what the animals drink and by the animals drinking it , it led them to dieing. Also hydrofracking affected people money because they knew if they kept drinking their tap water from home they will get sick so they had to travel to another place for they could get clean water and in my believe it had to cost a lot because they had to buy gallons of water for at least a month. Also I rather pay a lot for regular gas then paying for natural gas because I want to have clean water in my house.

  8. Over the time my views on Hydrofracking have changed. Now that we have finished and we have viewed different people perspectives on Hydrofracking I believe that Hydrofracking should not be allowed in New York. It shouldn’t be allowed because New York City is known for having very clean tap water. If we allow Hydrofracking the water of the people is at risk of becoming contaminated with unknown chemicals. Also the jobs that they promise are only temporarily. Those jobs don’t last very long and plus they are mostly given to those who have more experience with the machinery. Most importantly I believe that Hydrofracking should not be allowed because at the end the United States would still have to have relationship with eastern countries. The United States would still have to get oil from eastern countries because cars would still need them. No time soon is there going to be cars running on natural gas. Lastly and most importantly Hydrofracking should not be allowed in New York because the people that are getting paid to lease their land so Hydrofracking companies could drill could mess it up for everyone, and besides that they are the ones getting paid, not everyone else who’s suffering Consequences, such as dirty and contaminated water or contaminated air or even worst a gas leak. The Gas land documentary influenced my decision because it showed me how bad Hydrofracking could really get. Those scenes with the man setting his water on fire really shocked me. Also that water that he got as a sample and the results of the water really showed me the consequences of Hydrofracking.

  9. Hydrofracking is an abomination to the natural world. Though I was totally unaware of this crisis before our study, Hydrofracking does nothing but positive for our lives but give us another resource to worry about! Natural gas is just adding weight to our global issues because the solution to our problems will bring more cons than pros. Though there are many job openings, these jobs do not help our economy as a whole but only develop the economic success of specific population of people. Unfortunately, these people are not from New York. Hydrofracking shouldn’t be allowed in the state because it can have many negative impacts on New York because this state is mainly urban and is very heavily populated. There would be a large increase in health defects and land destruction and/or decrease in land quality.

  10. Over the past weeks my class and I learned about Hydrofracking and been watching. Movie documentaries that relates to it call Gas Land. The movie is about Josh Fox a guy who id offer money to lease his land in order for a hydrofravking company drill for natural gas. Although they offer Fox money he refuse to take the offer. He heard about the risk that hydrofracking comes along with and he said it can start off with his back yard and spread among the nation. He went on a quest to discover and to solve the hidden parts of hydrofracking. As I learned and watch the movie many things cross my mind. One thing I stood too and didn't change yet made more stronger was my position of hydrofracking. Going against hydrofracking is the position to claim. Even if hydrofracking is a trade off because it will give us something we need (natural gas) it brings us risks. The method of drilling using hydrofracking can cause our water table to get Contaminate and mess with our water, the water we drink ! Also 30percent of our fresh water is lost forever when we drill using this method. This has become a risk due to the fact that their is only 3 percent of fresh water in the world. Roads and towns after and while drilling are getting messed up and destroy,With hardly no money to be renew. Animals are dying along creeks, river, and lake because their water is also Kind contaminated. However not inly animals lives are in dangers but as well as human and their heath. Drilling pollution and home owners water are messing with peoples Health. With the air they breath to the water they drink and bath in etc. Water in certain home owners house can even be lit on fire! Does that speak loud now? Due to these reason and maybe even more. This drilling method of hydrofracking shouldn't be allow in a city and certainly not New York City. New York has a clean water supply that come from the catskill Mountain and Delaware. River. Our water does not need to be filter and is great tasting water that is 100 percent safe and approve. If hydrofracking comes in contact with out water supply lives of all kind human and animals will be in danger. People can die and or suffer from heath issues. After learning and watching Gas Land I learned and have a whole different view of hydrofracking. With my own eyes I got to see and hear the effect of other peoples lives and heath their feelings and pain of what they been losing rather is their messes up land, animals, natural and even family. I also notice is not worth the money to get so much risk and lose even happiness for the value of money. Say No to hydrofracking!!

  11. In my opinion I believe that hydrofracking is bad. Due to the fact that many people get diseases from the toxic waste and get no place to live because they leased parts of the land. I believe that if people were given information on whats hydrofracking then lots of people would disagree on the system of finding natural gas. The only reason why they have locations is because of the money.
I don't think that hydrofracking should be in NYC because its a small city and there's lots of people living in the city. Also there are lots of tunnels underground. I don't think differently about hydrofracking because. It's a bad choice for people. They don't to now the results all they know is that they have a fat check on the kitchen counter.

  12. I believe that hydrofracking is very bad for our society even though all the benefits that it brings to our society. I believe in what could ruin our society, this would effect us badly, which cold lead to giving the society bad things that could affect the people badly for example cancer, like no one wants to live their life with cancer. The film gasland just brought even a lot more reasons to hydrofracking to be bad for the society, like wow it brings more job opportunities that's basically the only good factor about this. There could be other uses to create more jobs for people out there, but you have to worry about our society. Just this hydrofracking can affect us in the near future and ruin everything we have ever had. If hydrofracking was allowed in NY state this would just get me mad like I wouldn't want to be smelling the construction seeing our environment go to waste. I would find this decision a disgrace I would feel like moving some place else just to get away from this cause.
