The trip was exhausting but amazing. It was awesome to discover that we were standing on history, the way people got to town through a bridge built out of wood. This trip was much more than just learning about the environment. It also taught me certain skills like climbing that really steep hill, jumping over knocked over tress etc. It was definitely an experience that I could never forget. I learned that the scientific name for poop was scat; I never knew that until the staff members informed me. Finding the PH and temperature of the water was different from the way we tested it in the classroom because the tools were simple. All we had to do was put the tool in the water like a thermometer and it will say the exact number. The Catskill Mountain was beautiful. The environment was way different from the city. It seem much more calm than the city. The sounds of nature were so relaxing as well. The water seem satisfying enough to watch. There was life in the water; therefore the water is safe and not polluted. It’s easy to say that the environment is protected from destruction because there is no industrialization any where near by. It’s comfortable to see that you drinking water supply your water is protected.
ReplyDeleteThe learning environment was much different than learning inside a classroom. It’s much more fun and motivating. Instead of knowing the facts we can learn them and see it for out own eyes. It’s similar learning in a classroom because we are researching the same topic just using a different technique. The guides did a great job, they weren’t boring and absolutely answered all the questions we had without a problem. They were really nice people, if I were to have the opportunity to go again I would, the view is amazing. I will always remember the view of our water reservoir. It was gorgeous. It’s not everyday that we get to travel to upstate and learn about its history. I would always remember the cleanliness of the water all over, and the exciting hiking.
My trip to the Ashokan center, it was a lot of fun. I didn't expect this place to look the way it is, I thought it would be something different. I thought it was just going to be like a factory working on the water and cleaning it. I didn't expect it to be all nature. My highlights was basically everything. I liked how I was catching animals in the water. One animal I found interesting was the Crawfish, what I found interesting about it is that how is it able to swim backwards. Like how does it see what is happening around its environment? Lets say something was to try to attack it, how would it fight back or react if its backwards? What I will remember the most from this trip was the hike that we took before we had to return to W.H.E.E.L.S. We had done a lot of walking for awhile, but it was a lot of fun. I would like to do one of these trips again in the future. I would recommend this trip to the students who will be in this class in the future. It would be a lot of fun for them, and they will learn a lot also. But make sure to be ready to be annoyed by the flying insects.
ReplyDeleteThis experience is way more different to the learning that we are doing in the classroom. This is because the environment is much different. While the teacher is trying to teach you about something, you can actually be able to see what they are talking about. Like this if its taught like this the students are able to learn more. These two are much similar because you are learning what is going on in this location. But the only thing is that you are being taught by your teacher, and someone who can actually teach you more since they are smarter on the topic, and the environment has a big difference.
The guides that we had at the center did really well at their jobs. They were able to explain as much as possible on what we had to do, or any questions the students were asking them. Like when we went fishing and any type of animal we would catch they would explain what they were, and what they do. Like I wouldn't recommend anything, I think the guys we had had did a good job.

The Trip From Ashokan center Was amazing like it was so great that i laugh a lot in the trip and it was good that we went to Ashokan center because we were representing wheels and that was great. It was awesome to discover new things that we never knew like the story of a man who died finding treasures. This story was kind of scary also it said that you can hear him at night shelve ling in the woods. In the most part the trip was amazing like we were in another world it was beautiful specially the view. The trip was mostly about history and a little bit of science but it was exciting and amazing because we got to see a waterfall in which it was cool seen all the water falling and we saw ice too which it was cool. The environment was different from New York in many ways. One is that we got to see deer when we were arriving to the Ashokan center and it was so amazing like we can see this in New York. Another difference is that it in Ashokan center it was unwind in which is very, very different from New York because in New York there's a lot on noise and you don't see that in Ashokan center. One thing that i enjoyed about the trip is that i got to see and know that our drinking water supply is protected which originally is good to know because we in New York and a lot of people don't know if our water in clean or duty but we as a student went to see how's our water. I founded the trip more learnable than learning inside a classroom because we were outside and enjoying the fresh air of the nature and the view that we cant see from our classroom. Is more motivated, fun and excited. The guides did an amazing job, they were not boring they were funny specially Luke because he was telling me deer don't let their self seen etc. Overall the guides they were really nice and they were happy to see us because we were laughing and asking question, like we were in to it and that's what made the trip so interesting and very fun. I will always remember this trip because it was so amazing like i want to go again and learn more, and more.

Unfortunately i wasn't able to attend the great trip to release the trout upstate. Instead I've been working on my photo voice project. I was in the progress of touching up some of the questions to make them more mind unfolding to people so I can really make them think of solutions to the problems in their area. My biggest interest in the project was making people really think and realize the problems in their neighborhood and possible solutions they can take action on themselves and at the same time stay interested in the situation.I had just finished asking people in my building and area questions from the ones i made. It was pretty interesting how people don't really know about problems that are going on in their neighborhoods. This meant people really have to be told of the problems in their neighborhoods and area. So far the project is looking interesting just like Justin the Columbia University student told us.

The ashokan center trip was the best trip i had in my environmental science class this year so far. I enjoyed how the instructors made the trip fun and educational at the same time. I enjoyed how the air smelled clean and noticed the difference right away when i arrived to the city. The instructors did a good job keeping us focused and entertained while bugs were flying around peoples faces. One highlight i have was when my class went on the hiking trip and we saw the water fall. Also the bridge was an interesting part about the trip because it was a part of history. This trip was also a good way to do some physical fitness during the hike. Over all the instructors did a very good job in teaching the class.

MY experience was amazing. This trip over all was awesome because it was fun viewing a different environment especially being away from the city. Over all everything was my highlights especially learning about the woods and different species. Especially when seeing the water falls and soothing sound of the river and animals. Something I learned that was actually interesting is that natural water although " natural" its no because it can give you a worse case of diarrhea, which was actually pretty weird. I found interesting how the rocks and land is made without human interference. Overall I will remember everything about this trip the learning the experience of hiking and the relaxing out doors of what is real nature. This is totally different from learning in school because while you are learning its relaxing because of the soothing sounds of mother natural but also because of how natural everything is. It's similar in no way at all its so different from your average city and learning environment.
ReplyDeleteThis trip couldn't have been better then what it was because of how interesting it is especially knowing from where our water comes from. There way of leading the class was awesome because they made you apart of the class and helped you develop your way for thinking outside the box. Especially since they took time off their work to supply us with information that will be useful. Overall hopefully we can do this again and go to a different center and learn more then what we now know.
Ashokan center Was amazing it full of life and beauty. Hearing and looking at the great out doors made me feel very relaxed. My favorite part was the hike I had so much fun going up the slope hill. I also enjoy the waterfall it was so beautiful. What I found interesting was learning about different water animals and how to test water. I also loved the staff we were with they were really cool and generous to us. My highlight of the day has to be looking at hoe clean the catskill reservoir is and to really be wonder with where we get our NYC tap water. What I would never forget from that trip is how crazy it is that people travel so much hours just to stand and take a picture in front of an old reconstructed bridge, then go back home. That is pretty crazy and neat at the same time. I have to say I would love to visit again some day, that by far is the best trip I have been too at WHEELS.
ReplyDeleteThe Ashokan Reservoir was an incredible trip because it was an outdoor’s classroom. The way we were able to actually test the water and able to observe the environment was amazing. The most memorable part is the way after we did so much walking the view of the waterfall and when we actually saw the reservoir. After so much walking it was beautiful to see how serene environment is. When Mr.Fox told us to be quiet for 5 minutes it also allowed me to really listen to nature and how quiet and still it is compared to the always moving city feeling. This classroom environment wasn’t that different compared to our actual classes. The only real difference was the fact that we were outside, besides that we were still in an informative and learning state. When we were finding factors on the river it was just like what we have done before because in class. When I was taking the temperature I did it and while I was taking the factors that affected the change in the temperature according to its location. I don’t think there was any negative to this trip except having to walk a lot. The guides were also good because they were very informative and knew how to keep us intrigued. I find that they knew so much of the Ashokan center it was impressive. The way the guides moved around made it look like if they were the only one’s there but when Luke showed us the pictures of the wild animals it was unbelievable. The history behind the Ashokan like the fact that natives use to go through there to go to towns show how preserved and how environmentally safe the habitat is. This was a trip to remember because to be able to see the beauty of nature around where our water is kept.

This trip that we took to Ashokan Center in the Catskill State Park is like no other trip that I have taken before. It was a trip that left me exhausted at the end of the day because of all the activities we did on the trip. The major highlight of the trip was the beautiful waterfall we saw when we went hiking. It was a major highlight to me because as a city person, I was never able to appreciate a beautiful water fall since in the city there is none. Something that I learned was that outside the city there is a lot gorgeous natural places full of nature that are full of history. Places where there is quite for more than 10 minutes and where the air smells natural and fresh. What I will remember the most from this trip is all the cool jokes and scary stories our second instructor told us. For example when he told us that we were standing in top of someone’s grave. Also when he told us about the ghosts who roam around making noises. We learned a lot of things with the activities we did. It almost dint feel very different from the in class feeling since we are used to doing things physically. In class we don’t do much text book work. All the work we do, we do it with the actual materials. The only real difference is the location where we do the work. Besides that everything felt the same. This was an amazing trip and like I said earlier it’s going to be a trip I’ll never forget but I feel like it could of have been better. It would of have been better if we would of have stayed there for longer. Also if we would of have gone in warmer weather it would of have been better because the water would of not been as cold and also we could of have gotten wet in the water fall. I feel like the guides did an outstanding job with the things they showed us. The only thing that our second guide could of have done is given us a longer hike. I know the hike was timed but the place was so relaxing and beautiful that I would of have enjoyed walking more.
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy the trip it was really fun having a to do work in front of us watching how we get are water from and seeing how different the air is from the city and how it feels without survive for a couple of hours and to try to understand nature and why animals needed and how it effects those animals it way different then class because you can see it hands first then just watching a video in class I really like are instructors because they were out going a hyper which made it fun and really cool to hang out with when they told us story's about the area and the jokes that they told us about but mike never told us about how he got shot which was sad but now I can say I meet a guy who got shot. The only thing that was a problem was with timing if it wasn't for that the trip would have been great
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the best trips I ever had because it was sunny and I got to spend it with my friends. One of the highlight from the trip was when we were in the river and everybody was fishing for lil crabs and how everybody was having fun doing it. The thing that I found most interesting was the man that spend 50 years shoving for gold and never found it and after he died their have been rumors how you could hear shoving noise at night. The thing that I will remember about the trip was as we were going back from were we started I step on mud thinking that it was dry land already and when I step I just saw my whole foot go down the mud and when I take it out I just see my both foot full with mud but it was really funny. Learning outside the school it had it similarity and differences. One similarity was that the student was paying attention while the guides was saying something. One differences was that we got to learn something interesting outside the school were we just saw green and I love the smell of the place. No it was just the way I wanted it to see everybody having fun. Yes they did a great job because in some way they had are attention by saying something funny and really like that. Like I said they always were saying something funny especially are last guide he was really funny. One thing that the last guide did was that he challenge everybody to go up in heel witch was very steep. Nothing for me everything was perfect.

I had a HUGE amount of fun in our trip to the Ashokan reservoir and it’s an experience that I want to preserve in my memory for a long time because of its beauty, its preserved land, which does not seem like its harmed at all, and its significance to my life feels so much more present and important since /I saw it with my own eyes, When I heard of the aqueduct I felt like it was a body of water that gave me water but I never expected what I saw on that trip. When we were leaving the hiking site and got on the buses I was tired and was angry because I didn’t want to make a second stop, but the second stop to a closer position and on the rail to the aqueduct was totally worth it! Its mind boggling beauty made me consider going for a swim. The climb up the steep cliff-side was intense in a sense that it tested me mentally and physically, but mostly mentally. The thoughts raging through my mind were going in all sorts of directions when I was accepting the fact that I was going against a cliff-side and that I was going to get to the top at all costs, which made me think as I climbed, how was I going to do this? Were there any branches I can use to my advantage? If so, would they be loose or strong enough to support my weight? These rapid and intense thoughts kept me thinking about so many things I can’t think about in a city. The most dangerous thing you can probably do in a city is cross the street but that’s not a serious threat or a conscience striking event if you’re old enough to travel the streets on your own. In a classroom I feel like I can never learn more than in a hands on experience, but the learning of a topic in a classroom is to create a foundation of knowledge for when that knowledge is needed for the real world we’ll be able to access that memory and apply it to the situation/event.
ReplyDeleteThe trip was very fun it got me tier, since their was a lot of walking to do but it was all worth it. The highlight on this trip was the water fall we all saw while we was hiking, also the old history we was standing on that before it was a road where people walk on back in the old days. what i will remember the most from this trip was catching all weird animals that were living on the water seen and learning what they are and then letting them go back to the water. Also measuring the water and hiking. The learning is different because learning the facts in class is way different from actually going to the place and experience it in person and see how it works. I feel like yes the guides did a good job at explaining the place what stuff that where there was and telling us history. Also explaining to us about the animals what they are and what they could do I was really lost until he explain us.
