  1. I did not like my photovoice experience for many different reasons. I really disliked how we did those projects to take pictures for the project of the Colombia University students, as if we were doing their work for them, but that’s just my honest opinion. If I was going to do this project I was going to choose a topic that really bothered me, so I chose waste because it’s the problem that I see the most and the problem that really bothers me because of its impacts on everything. I was expecting the project a lot more fun than it turned out to be, but it was a boring project to work on because we just took pictures and presented it, wasn’t such a big deal. For some reason, I had more fun doing our previous projects, but what was different about this project in particular was that we had the college students by our side to give us feedback on our work which was fun because when we do whole class projects Mr. Fox doesn’t usually have the time to have those one on one conferences that we had with the college students. I feel like the college student that was in charge of my group didn’t do such a good job because it’s as though my group were running the session instead of her as if we were the ones that wanted to change the community and make these changes instead of her. I personally don’t recommend the photovoice project because I didn’t like it at all, but if everyone else liked it then Mr. Fox should go ahead and do it again.

  2. I like my photo-voice experience because we we working all together. One thing that i liked about the project was that we were asked to take pictures on things that are affecting our neighborhood or our community. My second reason why I like photo-voice is that it show me a lot of things like how to protect out environment and take an extra step to help our community. The college students did an awesome job but in one way they were like letting us do the the next step, which they were suppose to lead us. I had fun doing this project because you can see that their was excitement and learning happening so I feel proud that we did this project with the college students which for me was an honor working with them. The college student that was working with us was doing a good job but in the other hand she was letting us do the extra step instead of her. This project was fun and all that but their was one thing that i didn't like and that is we were taking pictures of things that are harming our community instead i wanted to go to that place and talk, letting our voice being heard about the problem that is going on. Our class working can change the community around our school because if we take another extra step beside the photos we should talk and let our voice being heard like jay which i found his job very interesting. I personally recommend the ptotovoice project but it has to be different than ours because i see that we didn't change nothing.

  3. The Photovoice project was actually interesting. I enjoyed initiating discussions on the topic I selected which was waste. I decided to work on waste because it’s one of the main problems around my community. It’s also valid to say that is the most realistic problem that could be changed successfully. It was exciting taking pictures around the neighborhood of the waste problem because it wasn’t that difficult to find. Almost every sidewalk had a dog waste or littering issue. This project helped me develop ideas that may help the community become aware of the problems that could be changed with their contribution. It made me think about the issues I’ve been ignoring for years because it’s become something normal to see, that’s why this project opened my eyes to see the problems of my neighborhood.

The Columbia University graduates were so sweet and kind. They are not teachers so I understood that they wouldn’t explain to us everything perfect. What mattered was that they tried to work with us and inform us as much details as we needed. It was really rude how many students from our class wouldn’t complete or do the Homework they assigned, also they didn’t really listened when they were talking or explaining something. This was not only a learning experience for us but for them as well. That’s what made it an amazing project that we were both students learning more about the community. At the beginning it wasn’t as interesting, but when we were learning more in depth about the topic it turned out to be fun. If I were to do this activity again, I would definitely get involve and do it again.

This class project could definitely change our community. Now that we have knowledge of our community problems we can make a change, come up with ideas that will help. We could construct a community service group in our school. There are many things that can be created and organize to help improve your community. I will be attending the presentation on May 6th. It’ll be an awesome opportunity to look at the great work we have achieved for the past few weeks. I would also like to see how good of help we were to the Columbia graduates with their research.

  4. During my Photovoice, I tackled the waste issue because I believed it was the most crucial environmental problem when evaluating our community. Trees can be repaired and replaced at any time and construction can be restarted and completed, but not waste. Waste brings diseases and rottens to our area and it effects the health of every member of our community. I would rather aid the waste control then the other too because it seems less important. Photovoice was a nice experience because before it I was never opened to visualizing my community for issues but during it and having a reason to look out for stuff like that I was shocked at the waste we develop and the lack of care and attention we give it. Photovoice is self-explanatory, I knew we would be taking pictures and that it would itself give some kind of reaction, that being the '-voice' in Photovoice, but I was surprised we were going to have to work with college students. Working on this project was a good experience because form now on I'm more inclined to inspect around my community for issues relating to waste. Also because I learned ways to how to address those issues by calling 311 and reporting the issue or by notifying our community board about it.

In order to continue our line of work and preserve awareness of our community is by teaching other students in the school about it. Instead of keeping this between our environmental classes we should enlighten other peers about it so they can teach others too and hopefully soon we have a group of people who share a common goal of taking care of our community. We could do this is posting up posters about ti around our hallways in a advertisement kind of way. This can help change our schools community because as 11th graders we lead other grades by examples and they will be doing it for the wellness of others too.

  5. I enjoyed the photo voice, I worked on Reconstruction because it a real problem their a lot of places that for examples buildings ain't finish being build they leave it half way. Other examples are theirs a banded houses that nobody lives on and they don't do nothing about like try to build houses or stores something that will benefit the society. My experience with photo voice wasn't what I thought because I thought we will try and do something about it not just take pictures and present it to our classmate but try and show those picture to government, someone so they could try and do something to change it. Yes i like working on this project but I wish we could of done something more to try and make a change. My experience working with Justin was good he gave us a lot of ideas on what we could do to try and make a change, only bad thing is that we didn't took any action. But Justin did a good job on explaining to us about reconstruction places we could start fixing and how to.

I feel like the next step we should do is try and show the pictures we took to someone in charge with reconstruction and give them examples on what to do and why we feel like they should try and do something about it. I feel like if we take the time and take it serious we could make a differences we just have to try with something small to change. Yes Mr fox should do photo voice next year so like that the kids from next year could try and make a differences with something else or finish making a differences on something we started this year. No I wont be able to attempt on may 6.

  6. My photo voice project was on construction. The reason why I choose this project was because i noticed a lot of unfinished work around our community. There is so much work being done in downtown but not around the poor and needing people like us. The project being made are always left unintended and not finished for example on 184 st and Amsterdam, its been there for over 4 years. My expectations weren't met because I was hoping to actually fulfilled our investigation and we ended up just talking about it and future plan that we might or might not meet which really put down my mood for the project. Although I really enjoyed working with the project. Justin did a well job teaching us and helping us with our projects. He also did a good job explaining the project and everything else in between. Overall I believe that we should start our conquest towards fixing the project because it would benefit both us and the school because we'll own a spot / land that we can care for as a whole . Some steps can be signing a petition for Mr. Kimmel can help us get money for the project because it overlaps all three projects. Mr fox should do it because its a good experiance to help students look at their community in a different way. I do want to attend the meeting because it would help us get more attention to what we want to do in our community.

  7. The issue I had worked on was construction. I had chosen this issue since I have seen that around New York City there have been many sites that have to deal with construction. Also, that I have seen so many constructions sites that have never been even started to be worked on. Like these things need to be fixed, no one wants to think New York as a city that needs to be fixed. We want them to see New York as a city that is good, we need to represent our city better.

I think my experience with this project hasn't really been met, because all we are doing as a class is taking some pictures of some of the problems that we see in New York. Like I thought we were doing all of this to try and fix these problems as a class. Not just look at this, talk about it, then go on like these problems aren't going to be fixed. We should try to at least get someone to help us make a change in this city. I don't think the citizens of New York would like to see a construction site on every corner that they walk through.

I think Justin did a good job leading his session with the construction group. He made it fun. not boring as I have heard from the other people that are in the other groups. He helped us come up with good ideas to help work with our environment. We even helped him with his ideas and what we are able to do to help out in our city. Justin was a cool person for a guy that goes to a expensive college, I expected them to be really smart and boring.

  8. My photo voice project was on trash in the streets. I choose this issue because i notice that in New York trash pollution is a big problem because almost in every corner you see cans and wrappers on the side walks and pills of trash. When i started the project i expected hard work and some of it was going t e thought by the students. Than my expectation change overtime when we started getting class time to go around and and check the neighborhood. while doing this I noticed that around our neighborhood theirs a lot of trash that makes our neighborhood look worst than what it really is. Working with the graduate students was complicated at first because they felt shy to ask us questions but a couple days they started doing things how normal teacher do and giving out worksheets. In my opinion i believe we shouldn't keep working on this because they are major problems that cant really be fixed because every individual has to take actions to start having less trash in the streets. Our class working on these problems wont really make a change but what it could do is make the problem more noticeble to others to make a change.

  9. On the photo voice project I chose to be part of the tree group. I chose this project because I felt that I could actually do something about it. I also felt personally connected to this issue. I am the type of person who notices the smallest detail where ever I go. Whenever I go bike riding or just for a simple walk I notice that our community doesn’t have that many nice trees. A lot of the trees are in bad conditions and are missing or have garbage around them. So many other communities have gorgeous trees that make them look clean and over all a good community. Trees could really change the way a community looks. My experience with the photo voice was really interesting because it made me realize that anyone and I mean any one could make a change with photo voice. It’s not something that takes a long time to do and its affects are intense if the people take the right pictures. My personal expectations weren’t completely met because we still haven’t done nothing for none of the issues we discuss but that would change after we take action on any issue, it doesn’t necessarily need to be the one I was a part of. The students from Columbia did a very good job in leading this project. I notice that it was more difficult at the beginning because they dint know us completely and also they dint exactly know how to lead a class since they are not teachers. They seem to very interest in the issues we discussed but I think that has to do because that’s what they major in, that’s what they like to do. As a class we should all come up with a project that involves every issue or we should choose a certain issue and work on it. We could raise money in different ways. It doesn’t necessarily have to be something huge. Something big enough so all the students could see that something is actually being done. I feel like if we raised some money we could actually make a change in our community. We could inform people but the biggest step we could take for now has to begin with changing our selves. If we all stop throwing garbage in the floor then that’s all ready less garbage on the street. As we stop our friends and family members from throwing garbage on the streets we are soon going to notice a change. This type of projects are something that Mr.fox should do every year because the more people that become aware of the issues that are around us, the more people who are going to be involve and are going to want to take action. Kids from all ages and every adult in the community should be aware of the issues that happen in their community. This project really changed the way I think and for that I will be attending the presentation on Columbia university. I want to be part of a change. It doesn't have to be a big change, it could be small but at the end I’ll be happy because I know at least I accomplished something for my community.

  10. The issue I tried to make an effort in changing was trees. When Mr. Fox first described this project I was thrilled because he said we would go out, immediately I thought hands-on project. Sadly, the only thing we really performed was taking pictures. Reality compared to my expectations was a deception because I expected something more intriguing. I found the Columbia University students were ok because they lacked a method of being active. I didn’t really think this was more appealing than any of the indoor class projects we have done. As next step procedures we should have started actually taking action and awareness to the community of the damage in our environment. I think awareness would have been the ideal step to make this a progressive project. But I don’t really think much change would have been done because after a while motivation usually diminishes and I strongly believe that a small group will not be effective. I think that Mr. Fox should perform this project again with his classes next year because it can influence somebody that feels strongly about change to start an effective way of changing our local environment. This project was good but the outcome of it depends on the students. And I don’t think I will be able to attend the presentation on May 6th.

I did like my photo voice expression because it was a way to join the students in class that were having the same problem with there area ,I pick trees because I mostly go to the park and I don't really like looking at nature being destroyed by things that we do everyday which is a bad thing because if people came from other country's see how dirty are parks and trees are they may not come back which is one thing the city doesn't want ,at first i was thinking about the people in my group just wanted an easy A but really they placed there ideas into the project and really wanted a change ,Being with Kat in the tree group was great she always tried to make the positive thing out of everyone's work and gave us ideas which we on the thing we should to fix are environment , we should try to go to are local pack/area and clean it up or try to plant a try on the stomp thats right next to the school, well it can't be are class alone but we can get classes from different grades to help which can make an impact to are community, you should make another photo voice project with next years class because if our school is doing it other schools may try it which can do well with are community and can help the next generation of students ,I may go if there's not anything happening that afternoon.

i worked on the waste issue because that's a big problem in our community and i think it shouldn't be because there's allot of sources that we have all over the community and can prevent that issue of having trash in our street and sidewalks.my photo voice experience was really interesting because once i was assign to do this project i realized that waste is a big issue in my community i didn't probably realized because this is what i normal see which i think is a big problem i should have been realize this issue.
this expectation did really change a bit,i toke a picture with and oil spell on the sidewalk and a few days later i toke a look at where i toke the photo and it wasn't there which its a great thing and i see people either complained about this problem and some changes happen.
my experience with the Columbia university was a fun and interesting my was with michelle and mary they was nice and i felt comfortable working with them.yes i believe they did a good job with leading each session because they try to make us feel comfortable and chose each what picture we like more that showed more of the issue based on the waste issue
i think as a class we can now work on the problems we all as a class seen allot or go to those community groups that we learned from the Columbia student we can go and talk to the people about the issues we have in our community
i think our class can diffidently change our community because i think we all was surprised of how things are really are in our community, this project we made us look at this problems and we all would like to changed our community
i think mr.fox should make photovoice because in my experience it made me really see my community and i think they should also see how our community really is.this project could improve by the whole class can go out and get pictures of all but everyone do tress then all do waste and then do trash.i think theyll be more pictures and everyone can take a look on each issue there's going on.
i think ill probably go and take a look on other student from Colombia projects and look at other community

  13. During my photovoice project, I studied and researched problems based on construction in the neighborhood. I knew there were problems in the neighborhood regarding many things but I didn't know there were so many problems in our neighborhood. The expectations of the project was to be able to find multiple problems in our neighborhood concerning construction, and find ways to solve these problems or find ways to put them out in the public for people to know that these problems are in their area and can possibly affect them.
I enjoyed working on this project because it helped me find problems in my neighborhood, that i didn't even know about. After finding these problems, i enjoyed speaking to my team mates about possible solutions to these problems, and how we could put them in affect. We thought of solutions like make a petition that the whole community could sign that could be presented to the community board so that something can possibly be done.
We had the great opportunity of working with some Columbia University graduates students on these projects. They did a pretty good job for not being teachers and taking charge of a high school class and giving us a good ideas and help on our projects.
The class should probably continue on with these projects if time allows it. These photo voice projects should continue on next year because us as students that live in this neighborhood, we have the greatest impact on change in this community.
I will try my best to attend the presentation in Colombia depending on whether or not I have a baseball game.
