The Lorax in the Heights by Bradon Limbar
After the boy was given the seed
He could do as he pleased
He thought of the benefits, he thought of the rights
This was a young boy from Washington Heights
He thought long and hard, then some trees he planted
Some tall, some short, some straight, and some slanted
In a few weeks there were trees everywhere
Some so high, they disappeared high in the air
People wer wasteful and through out some goods
So the boy talked to people, he went to all the hoods
“Please don’t waste the resources, use them again for free
You ruining the sidewalk, where I want to plant a tree.”
Some said “Trees here?” That would be rare!
Wait! What’s that I’m smelling, is that fresh air?”
The boy replied, “Yes my good sir, the air is clean
There’s no more pollution and the electronics are all green”
People saw the difference and then the boy said
“I can try to solve the problem but it can’t be all on my head
So instead of driving a Hummer or a big fancy Range
The purpose of Dr.Seuss writing The Lorax was to show that not everything is going to stay around forever. And that we all make mistakes but we have to start realizing what we are doing are hurting the environment. I think that his intentions were to persuade its readers to act.The Lorax came out once the boy had cut down the first tree and told him that if he cuts down more there aren't going to be any trees left. This connects to how in real life when we get used to using lots of water we are going to keep on doing it and we are hurting the environment. I think that Dr.Seuss intensions are strictly to persuade readers to act. The more resources we use the less things we are going to have in the future. I think that people don't realize how much they are using resources until the major outcome turns out.
ReplyDeleteIs there anyone around to tell us not to use too many resources? Nice job.
DeleteThe lorax by: Dr. Seuss was written to both entertain and to persuade the reader to conserve the environment because when over using them in a unsustainable way we can destroy it. That would lead to the extinction of animals and the greater use of pollution. Dr. Seuss was trying to get people to think about the over use of materials, this can connect to the use of cars and factories because both are creating a lot of pollution which can destroy the trees and the wildlife. A way that Dr. Seuss explored this idea was when he wrote " They may have to fly for a month ... Or a year ...To escape from the smog you've smogged- up around here " and as well when he writes " They'll walk on their fins and get woefully weary in search of some water that isn't so smeary " . When he writes both quotations it makes me. Think about how there is a lot of over production and that sometimes the waste is thrown into the rivers that has fishes and other wildlife living in them. This connects to the pretolio oil waste that was thrown into a body of water that contained penguins I think a few years ago and the thing with this I that these penguins had a hard time swimming. This all has to do with the overproduction of items and then the over expansion of waste, it has to do as well with people's ignorance about what is hurting the environment. If there was more awareness about how different concepts are hurting the environment, why destroy it if you’re going to have to live in it for a while. Dr. Seuss towards the end writes “unless " which a few rocks , he is inviting us to actually make a difference about the way that we use different things like cars and the amount of water that is used as part of our daily ritual. He wants to make a difference through he's book he wants us to be attracted to how the pictures look but behind the pretty drawing there is a life lesson , he wants us to be aware about what we do and he wants us to see how factors and pollution can actually damage the world . Dr.Seuss would support organizations like the one in the Bronx River, which is trying to preserve the natural environment even though it is has train tracks close by, it knows the importance of the preserving. In conclusion The lorax by : Dr. Seuss is an amazing way to incorporate a strong message through the use of pictures , it shows is to take care of the environment or else we will lose the beauty of nature.

DeleteBringing Back The Lorax.
ReplyDeleteYoung man walking down the streets,
he placed a seed, he water the seed.
Step by Step he would please the whole neighborhood
who will end up on the trees.
Kept in his mind, he wanted to meet the Truffula trees,
that once he heard the Lorax Lived in.
Step by step he plated another good seed that will grow as high as his dreams. To keep the trees he jumped and bumped and swing away, to all those good for nothing but harm the trees.
"Why have trees if we could build a deli?"
said one of the weak,
"why be fat and not slim fit?"
after all we are all going green, to create a better world that keeps sustainability,
Was the boy successful?
DeleteThe outcome of your story is unclear.
After the boy was given the seed he went to plant the tree. He watered and cared, watered and cared till the tree became big and strong. The tree began to sing a song once it became strong. The song went,
ReplyDelete“ My fellow trees we have been chopped and thineed by the mean chopper, this young boy has served as my doctor. I am singing to you to let you know all is well.” And in one sudden burst all the tress grew, the sun came out setting a nice groove. There air was cleared, at last the air was fresh once again, and guess who returned.
The trees little friend. Yes the lorax the lorax it will be the lorax it was. He went up to the boy and said, “ Everything is returning, the Bar-ba-loots are playing in the shade, they no longer have the crummies because they have Truffula fruits in their tummies. The swomee-swans are singing and the fish are humming.
Young man you have done the world justice now go spread the word to your friends so they won’t do the world injustice. Let it be know. Remember it is all up to you, the world is made by how you treat it, yes this is true.
Well done... great use of Lorax characters
DeleteThe Lorax by Dr.Seuss, his intentions were strictly to persuade its readers to act because Dr.Seuss is letting us know that we have to make the world a better place because if we do that then everyone can live a sustainable life. Also Dr.Seuss is letting us know that we should protect the environment from pollution and other things in the world that are threatening the environment because if we create things like green-houses, more trees and bring back more animals then the environment will be more green. One example of this in The Lorax is when Dr.Seuss says "And my poor Bar-ba-loots are all getting the crummies because they have gas, and no food, in their tummies!" This connects to our discussion about sustainability because to live in a sustainable life we need to reserve and not use all of the resources because we need to let future generations have the chance to use the resources that are available to us today that will be available to them in the future. Another example of Dr.Seuss persuading its readers to act is when he says " Now all that was left ' neath the bad-smelling sky was my big empty factory". This connects to our discussion of sustainability because to live in a sustainable life, the sky needs to be clean because with factories polluting smoke that makes the environment not safe and is less protected because no one isn't doing anything to stop the pollution to make the environment better and safe. A final example of Dr.Seuss persuading its readers to act is when the Once-ler says " Through the years, while my buildings have fallen apart, I've worried about it with all of my heart". This connects to our discussion of sustainability because often people who do the opposite thing of not protecting and reserving the environment and don't care about making the environment healthy and safe then feel worried and awful for not caring about the environment and then decide to do whatever they can to make the environment healthy, safe, and protected for themselves and future generations. In the end Dr.Seuss was persuading its readers to act because he wants us to protect the environment that we live in because if we do then we will appreciate what the environment is giving to us and we will live longer in a greener sustainable life.
ReplyDeleteNice argument, well said. Good use of textual evidence
DeleteThe Purpose of the Lorax is to show how sometimes humans are so selfish, they do not seem to care about our resources, they only care about taking those resources and sell them, leaving us with nothing. The Lorax shows how important it is to care about our wolrd. Even though it has always existed since we have a capitalist economy where everything is money. Not everything should be money, people seem to care so much about what they can get from it, that they don't realize how hurtful it will end up being.

Interesting thoughts, but you did not fully answer the question of what Dr. Seuss's intentions were when writing this story.
DeleteGiven the seed
ReplyDeletethe boy did not believe that the tree is a need.
So as the boy walked
He meet his father and talked
The father said “nonsense it’s just a story,” and throw it on the ground.
Which the soil caught and found.
Weeks past by and there was a tree,
For every person to watch and see.
One stormy day,
the seeds found their way
And the ground took over and so it began,
As the boy grew, so did the trees.
He came across what he remembered
as the day his father did not believe.

Creative! "Believe"... like it.
DeleteIn the Lorax Dr. Seuss’s intentions by writing the book is to communicate to us an environment to care for since we are all a part of it. For example in the lorax dr.seuss talks about wen they started to polute the world with factories that they started making and how it was harming our environment also in the story it showed when they cut down the trees and how the lorax wanted to keep the tree alive. The lorax didnt want the trees cut down because it was going to hurt the environment and it was hurting the animals habitat like the cut down of trees was hurting the fishes because there was so few . Dr. Seuss book is sending out a message to help the environment because it could affect and destroy an entire habitat.

DeleteThe purpose i think why Dr Seuss wrote The Lorax is for people out there to see that using natural things like trees are bad. One reason the story shows us this is by how
ReplyDeletethere cutting down the tree’s from the story to make clothes. This connects to what we are going through because we are cutting down trees for people or for wood for fire. This is so negative because the fact if we continue to do this then in the future there is no going to be trees and trees give us life because they breathe carbon dioxide. This is so horrible because people are affecting our environment just to make money. This is negative because we won’ be able to survive if tree’s don’t exist and the world will be over.
Is there a way to use trees sustainably? What suggestions do you have?
DeleteAnd Then What Happened?
ReplyDeleteThe boy looked at the seed
With wonder and greed
He thought it would be AWESOME
For everyone to see …
He decided “ill plant tress here, here, and here”
Then everyone will enjoy and cheer
He planted some high, some low, and even some under a slope
“Fresh air for all” he shouted
However there was a group that doubted
They denied and disagreed
Yet the boy proved them wrong indeed
“Our land is so fresh and so clean thanks to all your Truffula Trees”
The people jumped and played around
Even had fun rolling in the round
The boy was proud of what he had done
So happy to see everyone keeping their world so clean
He reminded them “let’s not only leave it to ME”
And everyone was ready for their future to be
Oh so GREEN!

DeleteSo good! Love it.
DeleteDr.suess's wrote The Lorax for the readers to understand what is happening to the environment and how us humans are effecting it. Also he is giving us example on how we are harming the environment by saying that the men is cutting down trees until there's no more left. Also saying that because of factories we are making the rivers toxic and all the species that live in the river are leaving. I think this book was for both entertainment and persuade because as a kid you may have been read this book and just seen it as a regular colorful book. But as you become older and start really understanding the meaning of what the book is saying you are being persuade into trying to change. The part where I feel is the most persuade in this book was when the men in the tree gave the kid a seed to grow trees and he ended the book there. I felt like he should've ended the book like that because now we are left with what we should do now since we were given the option to either continue what the last generation which is living unsustainable or make a change and live a more sustainability life we more green trees and less toxics use.
ReplyDeleteGood commentary on the ending of the book... good use of textual evidence
DeleteThe boy quickly grabbed the seed,
ReplyDeleteAnd as he proceeds,
To find everything else he needs,
He spotted the perfect area, which even though it will be slow,
A new tree will provide and look beautiful as it grows.
He now planted the seed and as he watered the ground,
He wondered, how long ‘til others come and stick around?
He also wondered how different the world would be,
And what others would think when they see this new tree?
Now years have passed,
And boy, they go by so fast,
But now there are visible creatures and trees again, AT LAST!
The atmosphere’s clean,
And the ground is no longer dark, it’s green.
Now there’s so much joy in the air,
And life suddenly seems so much more fair,
And after all that the Lorax and Once-ler disagreed,
Now very good friends they both came to be.
Everyone loves a happy ending... well done
DeleteI believe Dr. Seuss's purpose in writing the Lorax is to persuade the readers to act to destruction of nature and the water being polluted that's usually happening. An example of this is in the book, Dr. Seuss talks about how everything was really beautiful back in the past until everybody started chopping down truffula trees and manufacturing the resources of those trees. Now, mostly no truffula trees are seen barely. This connects to real life because of how people actually do chop down over trees and manufacture it into paper, wooden tables, etc. Another example is when manufacturing the chopped down trees, the waste of the manufacturing process is being dumped into rivers. This also connects to the real world because of how people liter in the Bronx River creating a lot of sewage and polluting the whole river and messing up the homes of organisms in that river.

DeleteYour writing could improve by having a better flow.
DeleteI think Dr.Seuss’s purpose in writing the Lorax was to persuade every generation to change the way they live their every day lives and to make us realize that we are destroying our environment daily. For example daily we consume a lot of water unnecessarily, we cut down many trees and don’t even plant half of what we cut, and we pollute the air/water simply by throwing a bottle on the street or in the river. He also wants us to realize that we only think about ourselves and not about the future. We think about the supplies we need for school (loose leaf, folders, notebooks) and the clothes we need either to got to school, to a party to a meeting, etc. but we don’t think that we are killing millions of trees and contaminating the environment with factories. We are also hurting species without even knowing. Dr.Seuss through his writing is sending us a message which is to not take for granted all of the natural resources we have today because one day they will finish, nothing lasts forever.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think it will take to get people to start thinking about these things? What can/should be done... Nice post

DeleteDr. Seuss’s purpose in writing The Lorax was to entertain kids and at the same time to persuade adults to save the environment. He made the book colorful and with a lot of animations to gain the attention of kids. He made the story for adults because the story is based on issues that happen in real life. Today we see how industries get rid of our natural resources as a replacement for industrial businesses. That’s what happened with Truffula Trees. Dr. Seuss wanted kids to be familiar with this book because when they grow up they would find the meaning of this book apart from admiring the colorful and well animated book.
ReplyDeleteA good argument for both sides, but it could be improved by siting more textual evidence from the story

ReplyDeleteThis kid Lopecito was given some seeds
From the man who created the thneeds.
But this kid didnt know he had all the power he need.
Indeed he could of change the world if he wanted,
But he aint take advice so he did as he pleased.
He aint even try to grow "Truffala trees''.
He aint even try to do a good deed.
He kept growing and the world remain as it did,
Sustainability can even help us a bit.
The reason why the kid didnt do a good deed,
Was because his father owned a industry
Full of cement and concrete!
The young boy told his father about the seed,
But the father wanted the son to disobey what
the Lorax had to say.
So the boy destroyed the seed and wasnt able to see
how successful the world was going to be, and
the story continued and plants went extinct.
So now its time for you to make your own good deed
to create another generation of "Truffala Trees"
Oh no! Tragic ending... let's hope this isn't what happens in the real world.
DeleteThe Lorax by Dr.Seuss was written to persuade the readers to act. Dr.Seuss was trying to tell the people how we are destroying the environment and how we can save it before it’s to late. When it says “I’m figgering on biggering, and biggering, and biggering, and biggering” shows how the people just care about them growing financially and don’t care about the environment. Dr.Seuss is showing how selfish people are by just caring about them while the environment gets destroy. We should keep a sustainable environment because it’s the only way we are going to survive and leave resources for the next generation to use. For example when he says “No more trees. No more Thneeds. No more work to be done” shows how if we continue wasting the resources there’s going to come a time where our resources are going to end and we are going to need them. If all the resources are wasted there is going to no hope for the next generation to survive because just as we needed them they are going to need it, but their is not going to be any left for them. Dr.Seuss didn’t write this book to only show us how to we are destroying the environment he also wrote it to persuade us to act and make the environment sustainable. When he wrote, “UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not” he is trying to tell us how if we actually start caring about keeping the environment sustainable by planting trees and stop polluting the air we could actually make a change and start making the environment green.

DeleteSustainability Is Key
ReplyDeleteGiven the seed
The kid knew what to do
He said "this seed being planted is what this world needs"
The kid felt a responsibility like no other
So he made sure the seed was covered
In dirt of course
It's the only way the seed will grow
But he planted in a place that is not too big
And not too small
But a place thats just right for a seed this small
He saw the seed grow
From small to large
And he noticed the branches were strong and hard
This made him happy
And made the town proud
That such a young kid could change nature some how
The kid was now known for planting this seed
And was also known as the kid that believed sustainability was key

Delete"Unless someone like you" the Once-ler said
ReplyDeleteThose were the thoughts in the boys head
so off he went to go help the trees
he went to the projects, but saw the people smoking some trees
if you know what I mean
the boy couldnt believe what he seen
so he took his seeds, and grew some trees
and he told the people " you see theses"
"you do not smoke these trees"
" you don't make hats, pants or shirts with long sleeves"
"Unless someone like you" the Once-ler once said
and now the boy knew what he ment
Someone like me to the help the trees, ground and air
to stop pollution from cars, trucks and sprays for bad hair
These people dont know how to reduce, reuse or recycle
and these people rather take cabs than trains or just cycle
So the boy taught them through Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter
he helped clean up, just like they did for the Bronx river
and as soon as we knew it the Lorax was back
he came from the sky and landed with a tic and a tac
and said Oncey I'm back

Creative and nice rhyme... although your commentary on "trees" is not really appropriate for this setting
DeleteHe ran to his house, with horror and glee
ReplyDeleteAnd though long and hard of what should be
At first he thought of the Truffula Trees,
How beautiful and magical they would be
But the Once-Ler made the mistake
Of saying the how much money his Thneeds did make..
And so the boy thought,
He thought of the seeds
But he grew up a schup
And thought of the Thneeds
“Poor Once-Ler, how stupid he was,
To kill the Truffula Trees and
Run out of tufts.”
I will modify the Truffula Trees
To make more Thneeds
No longer will we need to kill the trees.
Bounteous they will be
In nature free
And the only one able to make Thneeds
Will be me.
I protect the Truffula Trees
For they raise my treasury
You ask “but will the Bar-ba-loots in their brown Bar-ba-loots Suits
Be able to eat the Truffula fruit?”
Of little cause that is, little chap
For Bar-ba-loots are not Truffula Trees
And so to care for them is a trap
Truffula Trees should be nurtured and cultivated
Do any more and you will be suffocated
Caring extensively is a crime
For those who labor in the grime
To care for oneself
While pretending to care for others
Is the greatest of lessons
As you will discover.
Interesting take... I like your point on cultivating trees (seems sustainable), but am left wondering on your overall message.
DeleteDr.Seuss intentions on writing the Lorax was clearly an attempt to get humans to act in a more sustainable way. Sustainability is acting in a way that assures that generations to come have the resources we have today. In order for this to happen we aren't supposed squander the resources we have today. Dr.Seuss succeeds in delivering this message when he has a unfortunate transformation of the story's setting. The setting goes from a colorful beautiful place in which various species live to a industrial lifeless wasteland which is too polluted to be a home to any of it's native species. This is the direct opposition of living in a sustainable way due to that generations of those fictional native species no longer have those resources because of human mistreatment. Those native species serve as a metaphor for the species present in our century. Moreover , it is also evident that Dr.Seuss had the intention of getting his readers to act when he says that things won't get better until someone who cares "an awful lot" comes along and creates a change. In other words he says that this adversity we face would only be overpowered when a firm supported of living sustainably , come along and takes action towards the termination of the human actions that deteriorate our society. Another major detrimental complication Dr.Seuss tries to get his readers to defeat is the dumping of rubbish into our bodies of water. Due to the waste being thrown in the water the fishes in The Lorax were unable to stay there. This connects to our society because our method of disposing our waste is largely congruent to that in The Lorax and it's also destructive to aquatic species because our waste has the capacity to alter the abiotic factors in there home and any alteration to these factors would be lethal to many of these fishes. To conclude Dr.Seuss brings to light all the dilemmas we are creating to the environment and he attempts to get his readers to operate against this dilemmas by living more sustainably.
ReplyDeleteNice argument and use of textual evidence to support your opinion... well done
DeleteDr. Seuss's purpose in writing The Lorax was to persuade / inform the readers how our actions will affect our future and future generations unless we decide to help the environment in positive ways. I also think that Dr.Seuss wrote The Lorax to entertain little kids since there are rhyming words and cute pictures that go along with the story. As a reader I was able to understand the message behind Dr.Seuss's book, I think that Dr.Seuss was trying to exemplify the idea in which we should help preserve the environment. Daily we use too much unnecessary water without even noticing it, or people are cutting down trees etc. All these things are hurting the environment and slowly are affecting the environment. For example the air is polluted, because of factories, smoke, cars etc this has affected our environment negatively because global warming has increased tremendously. Instead we should help preserve the environment. Why not plant a tree? Or reuse plastic bags and plastic bottles. Some people however are taking Earth for granted. One day beaches will disappear, animals would be extinct, and water would no longer be available. Most of us are being selfish enough to not care about the world that were living in. This connects to what we learned in class about sustainability because in order for us to be sustainable we must preserve the environment in a way that would allow future generations to be able to use the same resources that we have today. Dr.Seuss tries to persuade his readers to do something to help out the environment when he says, "Now all that was left ' neath the bad-smelling sky was my big empty factory." This is trying to say how humans are not preserving the environment and we are polluting the air with the use of factories and smoke. In conclusion Dr.Seuss's message is for us to appreciate the environment and to protect it for future generations. And to not destroy it instead improve it.

The boy planted the seed
Then at a moments notice he was consumed with greed.
He began to knit sweaters&vest&socks,
Until one day he thought about the Lorax&what he wrote on the rock.
He thought of the damage he did to communities& trees
How he cut them all down&empty space is what he mainly sees.
At that moment something in his mind switched,
He began to plant more trees&didnt cut them off
Instead, he let everyone enjoy them since the Truffula trees were now for all
"Everyone should enjoy these trees,
Since they aren't just wonderful to see,
They help us all breath, keep our animals with a space for them to live that's clean,
&with this little effort from me,
Our whole community could try&go green!"

Dr.Seuss story was a metaphor, intended to teach the growing generation about sustaining their environment, and the harms of environmental destruction, mostly caused by pollution from industrialization. Even though industrialization has progressed humanity to levels we might never have reached, but the outcome has been great as well. The destruction of environments have caused species to go extinct and many more to struggle for survival trying to adapt to a different place, this leading to a decrease in biodiversity. When the character in Dr.Seuss story, Once-ler gives the kid the last seed it sends out an important message to the growing generations telling them they could fix the path humanity has led for centuries. It also suggests the older generations have a responsibility of setting the younger ones on the right path for the planet, our race, and the individual self. It shows how even though many of the people believe there's an unlimited amount of resources, at one point it will reach its limit and at that point it might also be late for turning back. In conclusion the story's point was to persuade the readers to worry more about their environment and to stress the recreation of our environment so that our biodiversity could remain and sustain itself.
Nice response and argument, but could be strengthened further with textual evidence
DeleteAfter the boy was given the seed
ReplyDeleteHe thought about his individual needs,
He gathered a crowd to give them some education
He spoke about the Once-ler and his terrible dis forestation!
He told the people he'll build a machine,
A machine that causes no harm,
In the boy's head an idea rang like an alarm
He made people work for him, building machines
Dirty windows, rotting smell, no vents
The boy manipulated the people paying only 2 cents
The environment was brown, not the color green anywhere
plants and animals with infuriated faces everywhere
The boy felt guilt, because he owned all the green
With no friends to share his success,
he grew bitter and felt depressed
All the machines broke down and exploded
Debris falling from the sky, suddenly
A piece of Truffala seed
Fell upon a young girls lap.. with a smile in her face she said
"our neighborhood isn't gone its just taking a nap.
So the boy did not learn a lesson from the story of the Once-ler? He went on to repeat the same actions? I am left wondering about your ending... taking a nap? How is this use intended?
DeleteThe boy was surprised, he sure was in shock.
ReplyDeleteHe picked up the seed and ran like a jock.
Hopping and bouncing and yelling with glee
he told all his classmates, "look at this seed!"
The boy the realized, and he declared
"the world is unjust, and it is unfair.
We should be planting more trees and flowers
not plants that make more waste by the hour.
He told all his friends, his teachers, the world,
the plants are our friends, so sit down and learn
"We need them more than just cars and our socks
it's all a cycle that helps us, it rocks!
The trees help us breathe and feed all the birds
the grass on our feet? They help feed the herds
of cattles and cows and even us too.
Let's all spread the word, let's make it all new.
The world needs not me, but also you too!"
So with all his helpers they traveled a lot
Uganda to Rwanda they just couldn't stop!
Some months have passed and the air is now cleaner
the animals loved that the grass is now greener.
So think of the animals, and think of you,
but don't forget future generations too.
Brilliant! So good.
DeleteIn the book The Lorax by Dr.Seuss the purpose of the text is to persuade readers to know the consequence of their actions and how it can slowly be a major problem. What I mean by this is like in The Lorax when the deforestation of trees began by the kid want to knit and thought it wasn't going to effecting anything or one till he got greedy with power making his factory and wanted more cutting every last tree and destroying animals habitats. This is an example of how Dr. Seuss purpose show the problem in human action that is happening today in the real world and how people are doing deforestation eventually will affect ours lives.I believe also that this text is to persuade because the way Dr.Seuss wrote the book in catchy way that any age couple would understand and made the story interesting. The purpose of the story is to try to make us try to make a difference and replant even if its just one seed.
