My experience in the Bio bus was awesome. It was incredible to see the trout in a close view because seeing them in class was kind of frustrating. The trout in class was boring, it wasn't moving at all. It was really cool to see the specific details of the body part. It was amazing where the lungs of the trout is located and how visible it was.
ReplyDeleteThe Bio bus was different from any past science experience because I never actually went inside a Bio Bus before. I used a microscope before but the Bio Bus microscopes were more advance in my eyes and I got to see the figure way better than the normal microscope in class. The Bio Bus did not change the way I think about science or scientists. I don't consider in becoming a scientist because even though is interesting, I don't see myself becoming a scientist.
Trout wasn't really something I ever thought about. Now I have some background information. For example, the trouts keeps the water fresh, don't grow much, the colorful trout are male and the reason for that is so they can interact with females.
The BioBus is a very unusual but exciting environment that students get to experience; fun hands on activities on science. The BioBus is definitely unique and extraordinary to experience. It’s very eco-friendly to the society. The BioBus is carbon neutral which contains several sustainable systems/items; the solar panels are designed to absorb the sun's rays for generating electricity or heating. The wind turbine is a large vaned wheel rotated by wind to generate electricity. And the Bus is runned by grease. Instead of using regular gas in the car fuel compartment they use leftover waste grease from restaurants. The BioBus particularly changed my perspective on science because I can still interact and use creativity to have fun and develop new ideas in science class. Science should not only just be about learning information, taking notes and listening to the teachers lectures. Our previous perspectives before the BioBus on science and the teachers were normally stereotypical because we would think the subject is dreadful, the teachers are dull, considered a nerd/geek if you liked and understood the concepts/lectures, the teachers would wear a lab coat and wear glasses. The scientists on the bus were nothing near to the description listed. They were free open-minded people who seemed really passionate at what they do, which is teaching students how interesting science could actually be if you try to make the effort. I now have to admit that the experiments completed during class are interesting and fun. In the BioBus you learn facts while still having a good time. The class and I observed the trout that we are raising. They only thrive in freshwater. They’ve developed a lateral line to navigate themselves also, as a hearing aid guide. Participating in the BioBus made me realize that science is not only about theories and trying to reenact them by completing labs but, about understanding the ideas in different teaching perspectives that interest the audience.
ReplyDeleteAt first, I was unaware of the fact that the BioBus was even coming until before we saw the video of the BioBus in class. I was interested since it was a sort of science on wheels thing but it wasn’t like I went to be dreaming about getting on the bus. When it came to actually going to the BioBus, I was pretty excited since the bus had caught by interest. I got even more excited when I saw it there since I had seen it in a video and now it was right before me. I always get excited when I see things on the news or on the internet and then I see it right before me. I thought it was great that the bus had exactly what the video had said. The solar panels and wind turbine; the plants on the roof was a cool bonus. It was even cooler when we actually got on the bus since we got to use the microscopes. This was different than what I’ve usually used since the only microscopes I’ve used are low powered and aren’t as strong as the ones on the bus. To be able to see the trout with so much detail was both cool and creepy-since the trout baby had a big black eye and it kept moving its mouth. I’ve never gotten to see a live creature under a microscope; I’ve only seen things like plant cells under the microscope.
ReplyDeleteI always loved science since it had experiments in it. I love hands on work so doing experiments was just fun for me-of course lab reports were the downfall to that. Going to the BioBus didn’t entirely change the way I think about science. I still think that science is cool and that experiments are awesome. The way I thought about scientists did change a bit since the scientists we met were actually fun people and were normal looking. They didn’t wear white lab coats like I grew up believing. Scientists don’t seem to be something that so beyond what I know. They’re people just like everything else and they have a strong passion for what they do.
Although I think of scientists differently now, I wouldn’t consider becoming a scientists myself just because I’m interested in a different field. I’m actually interested in architecture much more than I would be interested in becoming a scientist. Science is involved in architecture which is why I think I am interested in science as much as I much but I don’t see myself becoming a fully fledged scientist anytime soon.
Aside from the scientist thing though, seeing the trout under a microscope was a blast. All I saw of the trout was little black lines and from what I could see when I looked in the tank, they weren’t moving at all-I think me along with others thought they were all dead since they weren’t moving. But turns out they are moving and they can move. Those trout could swim around so fast when they were running away from the light from the microscope. I feel that now I know that we actually have live fish in a tank and they aren’t something surreal that we talk about in class. I’m excited to see them grow and hope to see all of them survive the journey from their birth to becoming adults.
This week the Bio Bus came to Environmental Science class. It was a very interesting and exciting experience. Even the weather contributed to an amazing time, this was definitely not like any normal science class. This experience was different from all the science classes I have taken before, just because we were taught in a bus that was filled with all sorts of scientific instruments, which was pretty amazing. It was also different because it was the first time I used advanced equipment like the Sterozoom microscope. Which was pretty fun because it showed me that in science tools like the microscope only make what you are researching or studying even easier to do. I have always loved science and everything it has to offer, but I’ve always been really intrigued with Marine life more than anything else. Having such a good experience on the Bio Bus made me wonder if I’d enjoy using equipment like the Sterozoom Microscope to study living species in the water more closely instead of doing other aspects of marine life. It also made me notice and acknowledge the Fact that science in general is something that I want in my life for as long as I live. It is something that I enjoy learning and speaking about and I have forgotten how much I enjoy it, so it was good to have a reminder. I think that seeing Dr. Ben and Sarah so happy to teach us about their knowledge and experience with science gave me an idea of what I want the future to look for me. I really do see myself teaching others about the fun science can bring. It made me really happy to see Ben and Sarah so excited to talk, it made it a safe environment for all of us who were on the bus I would say. What was also very interesting was seeing our trout under the microscope, we were able to see them so clearly, it was cool how we saw them eating their yolk sacs and swimming away from the light of the microscope. The only thing that is kind of creepy is that now every time I see our trout in the tank I see the magnified version under the microscope which is just awkward, but overall this week having the experience of being on the Bio Bus was very good.
ReplyDeleteI’ve heard of the BioBus in the past, and I remember thinking of how cool it would be to see it in person. So to see the BioBus parked outside the school was really exciting and amazing to see, but going inside was an entirely different story. I can definitely say it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It was really eye opening to see the trouts from the classroom under powerful microscopes, seeing the specific parts of the trout and seeing how it is growing so far. I was never able to experience something like going to the BioBus in my old science classes, although we did use smaller, less powerful light microscopes. It was a bit tedious to see a dead organism under those microscopes. To be able to see living trout and living daphnia while studying them as they moved under the microscope was really amazing and interesting.
ReplyDeleteI have always been interested in science, but the BioBus made my interest grow a lot more. Before, I had never seen a living organism being displayed on a screen the way the trout and daphnia were shown, but I wondered what it was like. Of course, looking through a microscope is really interesting, but when you’re able to use such powerful microscopes like the ones on the BioBus (or in other science laboratories), it really changes your perspective on how you’re looking at an organism, since the quality is so high and everything is shown in such great detail. It fascinated me a lot, and I hope that we’ll be able to experience being able to look through the same types of microscopes later on in the future.
When I thought about scientists in the past, I always imagined them in the same way: someone who was wearing a lab coat, goggles, safety gloves, and a safety mask while stirring chemicals in a beaker. I know that is the case for some scientists, but over time I was able to see that not all of them are the way I had envisioned. The scientists on the BioBus are the types of scientists I envision today, but possibly even better. I think it’s incredible that the BioBus scientists have a motive of having students around the nation to become more interested in science by traveling to their schools. That definitely changed a large part of my original view on scientists, and it makes me wonder if there are other scientists out there that do the same.
I’ve never considered becoming a scientist, but I can say for sure that studying science does interest me a lot. I’m determined on become a pediatrician, so studying science is something I’m going to automatically have to do. I think that becoming a full-blown scientist would be more difficult for me if I decided to become one, since there are just so many things you have to know, understand and remember in relation to science. However, I think that if I was very intent on becoming a scientist, I would definitely want to do something that relates to what the scientists on the BioBus do.
Since the trout in the classroom don’t really move as much (at least when I go to see them), seeing them on the BioBus made me much more interested in them. Additionally, I was able to learn new things about young trouts that I hadn’t learned before. I had learned that young trouts feed off of the yolk sack that is attached to their bodies. They also hadn’t developed their hearts yet, but you could see the formation of their tails and their backs. To actually see that development was something I had never experienced before, and I’m really glad I was able to see it in person. I’m excited to see the development of the trouts in our classroom and see how they grow further into the school year.
This week we got visitors and that was the BioBus. The BioBus is an enthusiastic environment that student get to experience like doing activities and many things. The BioBus have Low tech on the back of the roof a garden just to show scholar that plants can grow anywhere. This is interesting because who thought that plant will grow in a truck. Plant cant survived without sunlight and water so the BioBus have a solar panels that is scheme to absorb the sun so like that the sun can hit the plants. The BioBus is a high-tech carbon-neutral laboratory that have incredible things inside like they have scanning electron microscope on board and microscopes that throw photographs and that's amazing because who thought that a truck would have amazing equipment inside. The BioBus changed my viewpoint on science because i can used innovation to have fun and develop ideas in many ways. The BioBus have change my thought about science because before i thought that science was challenge but now i see that is not challenging at all because now i know that science is fun and Alluring in many ways. The BioBus change my mind about science and that is a great thing because science for me is enjoyable. Now that i saw the BioBus and how we were using equipment it shows that science is really cool. We saw the trout that was in the class and they were small. I thought they were gonna grow fast but now i realized that they don't grow quick it take's time. I want to see the trout in our class to grow strong because we want them to grow so we can release them so they can have a better life. I want the best for them.
ReplyDelete~Marino A.Ventura(4th period class Environmental science)
The BioBus experience was really cool because everything we were seeing was so awesome with the microscopes I mean we ask some many questions and we learn so much about our trout and about what they eat and how they eat wiled they are babies. I really don’t know how the experience from others was but I think they felt the same way and most wanted them to vista agent because it was really interesting. I mean the class experiences are really Cando boring to people but I feel like science in interesting no matter what we are in or learning. In some way it did bit in some way it did not because to me science is fun and also fun because of u Mr.fox u make class every interesting to learn. Yea pretty much because scientist does other things that the biobus did not do. Like scientist do thinks about weather and ear the biobus does not. I won’t consider myself becoming a scientist because of the way it look Cando hard and really difficult to become fames in time to be a good teacher or a good scientist. The influxes it had on me was really not that mad but in a way it look Cando hard to be a scientist of a bus to make it that cool and to run by restaurant oil. my Experian and relationship change in what I know about trout is that I was thinking we need to feed them now I did not know they feed them self from the egg giok the have but it was really cool that I learn that part. - Whitney Rodriguez
ReplyDeleteThe BioBus experience was amazing. I was not aware of such thing called a BioBus, but the idea of a bus traveling to schools to teach people about environmental science and to make others experience being a scientist is innovating. The best part of the BioBus was the little portable handheld microscope that allows you to magnify up to 40x. It was fascinating how we zoomed in on a jacket and found out that the fibers were made out of plastic, so one of my classmates was wearing a jacket made out of plastic! We also zoomed in on skin and it was just very cool.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed observing the daphnia and the baby trouts under the microscope. It’s interesting to know how small things can be, yet function and be alive. I learned that the daphnia has a short life-span of two months, and their heart beats very fast, a minimum of 40 beats per 10 seconds. The baby trouts are an indicator species, their ability to survive is an indication that the water they are in is clean, if they do not survive, the water is polluted. As baby trouts grow and develop, they become less transparent. While observing the trout under the stereo zoom microscope, I was able to see their blood flowing through their body, and I was in awe. I sort of found the baby trouts adorable, they were so tiny and their little mouths were moving and their eyes were huge, and it was just so interesting.
I’ve always liked science, but I feel the BioBus enriched my interest because of the hands-on experience of things you don’t usually see every day. The scientists of the BioBus are really amazing people for doing what they do, and I hope to see them again soon. The BioBus was a great experience.
My expirence on the biobus was brolic.I never knew that the biobus excisted until mr.fox told us about it.The idea of a bus traveling to schools to teach people about environmental science and to make others experience being a scientist is innovating. Also enjoyed observing the daphnia and the baby trouts under the microscope. It’s interesting to know how small things can have small organs and more advance organs due to their surroundings and yet function and be alive on their own.I found out that baby trouts look wierd close up and they are so tiny and have little mouths and big moving eyes, did i menchain they were huge. while looking at their body we say how their blood flows through out thier body, no sercilitory system like us just free flowing.I love science, but I feel the BioBus enhanced my love because of the hands-on experience of things you don’t usually see every day. The scientists of the BioBus are really amazing people for doing what they do and I hope to see them again. The BioBus was a great experience and I will always be greatful for them visiting our school.
ReplyDeleteI had never really heard of the BioBus before Thursday when it had come to our school. I have always liked science since I was in middle school, and so science has been my favorite class by far compared to any other. Whether it was Biology, Chemistry or any other science, I was always interested. That being said, the BioBus raised my interest in science even more. Since on the bus we were able to work hands-on with powerful and advanced microscopes, it was better than the usual class experiences. In class, we would usually work with basic light microscopes looking at dead organisms on slides, which got pretty boring. On the bus, we were able to get a better look at live trout and daphnia that made the activity way more interesting because the organisms were actually moving. Being able to see these organisms with such detail and being able to observe their organs was something I thought I wouldn’t be able to do anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteWhile on the BioBus, I felt as if I got a small taste of being a scientist. I was aware that scientists performed research and observed various organisms to learn new things about them, but I didn’t know that they were able to witness them so clearly and vividly with such advanced technology. The better your technology, the better your research and experience. However, after witnessing the trout under the microscope, I was a bit grossed out. I learned that trout that just recently hatch sustain themselves without food, but get their nutrients from “yolk-sacs” attached to their bodies. Although it was interesting to learn this about trout, it wasn’t so pleasant to see. Also, with the microscope, I was able to see the bloodstream of a trout and learned that its heart is actually located near the bottom of its mouth. I found this to be strange since I definitely did not expect the heart to be located there, but that made the information I was learning even more interesting. Because I was able to closely see the features of our classroom trout, my interest in them has increased. I haven’t really bothered to look at them since they had hatched in the tank, but now I may consider checking in on them every once in a while.
Overall, based on my experience on the BioBus, there is no doubt becoming a scientist will be something I want to pursue in the future. However, I don’t think I will become a scientist that observes living organisms; I am way too squeamish for that. I think I would be a scientist dealing with chemicals or cells, but definitely not insects or fish like daphnia; the rotating eye creeped me out a bit. In all, the whole BioBus experience really allowed me to enjoy science more than I already do and allowed me to learn more about my surroundings.
The visit from the BioBus was fun and educational. We were able to learn and have a fun time learning. It was a unique experience because we were able to use top of the line technology to learn about daphnia’s and trout. It was also interesting because this was possible in a bus, it is a location that one would never expect to do this and have this experience. I think that the BioBus is a great idea because more people get to see the fun side of science.
ReplyDeleteThe BioBus did not really change the way I think about science, it helped to solidify and strengthen my perspective towards science. I had a positive view of science prior to my experience in the BioBus. I have an interest in science and I like learning it. The BioBus made me see that scientists have a broad range of interests and can look to learn about many things. Scientist can work towards learning about the environment and its species to be able to protect them, this is just one thing scientist can do, there are many things a scientist can do.
I would consider becoming a scientist. I would like to be a scientific researcher and conduct experiments. In particular I am interested in becoming a physicist because I find physics to be one of the most interesting fields of science. My interaction with the BioBus scientists amplified my consideration of becoming a scientist because they conduct experiments, learn new things, and seem to enjoy doing so. Science can make work fun and that is one aspect of science I really like.
The experience at the BioBus affected what I know about trout because I learned that baby trout are called alevin. Trout are indicator species that can be used to measure the water quality of an area. This is important because in a region like New York where water is not usually filtered trout would be used as an indicator of the good water quality.
I found learning about trout on the bio bus more interesting than learning about it in class. Because it was first of all outside of school, we were on a bus with a flat screen TV, comfortable chairs and also we were able to learn things from people who travel and do what they do for a living. So I felt like the experience on the bio bus was cool and interesting. After being on the bio bus I noticed how fun science can be. For example we were able to see thing s that we can’t see with our own two eyes. Like on the daphnia we were able to see its shells, heart, eyes and basically its whole body, which I found the most interesting. Although learning about science is fun and interesting I am not interesting in being a scientist because I find jobs related to technology and sports commentating more interesting and best fits me. After my bio bus experience and learning more about trout makes me want to do more activities related to the trout. It also made me more interested in releasing the trout later this year.
ReplyDeleteThis week we learned about the BioBus. My first reaction to the BioBus was a confused one. How can you put a lab in a bus? I was expecting chemicals and microscopes, goggles and much other lab equipment. When the day actually came to experience the BioBus for ourselves, I became excited. I love science, and being in a laboratory seemed mind tingling. When I got in the bus, it was not what I expected. It was smaller than I thought and there were only microscopes. Though it was not exactly how I pictured it, I was even more excited than the day before. One of the best parts of the BioBus was the scientists. They were very fun and interesting. They seemed as though they shared the same passion of science that I have. The BioBus is different than any other one I had, just because it’s a mobile lab. Which I didn't even think was possible. Prior to this experience, I was thinking of becoming a scientist (Cosmetic Chemist) and this experience confirmed that being a scientist is what I want to do. Seeing the reactions on the scientists faces when they did their work made me realize that science makes me equally as happy as it made them. My favorite part of the whole BioBus experience was seeing the class trout under the microscope. I had never seen another organism (besides a plant) under a microscope. Seeing the trout’s heart beating was so interesting. I didn't know that a trout had a dual-chamber heart, and that was so cool to learn and to see with my own eyes, instead of just seeing it as a picture or on a video on Animal Planet.

ReplyDeleteMy experience in the BioBus was very spectacular. I enjoyed looking at the trout through a microscope and capturing photos of their gills, yolk sac, and the head when their hilarious mouth was moving really quickly. I liked how the BioBus organized us into groups and taught us new things that could be really important to learn about. For example like trout being an indicator species; that helps them identify the quality of the water. I found this very fascinating and a smart ability trout possess. I enjoyed the way I learned about trout and about the food that trout eat as well. I learned that the trout food survive out of eating bacteria. The fun part of learning about them was that we got to look at them through a huge screen. We got to see how they have only one eyeball but contains many lenses so that they can look at every angle. This event definitely impacted my knowledge on trout.
ReplyDeleteLearning in the BioBus was very distinctive from learning in a school classroom. I liked the environment of learning inside a bus because it’s not a very common thing to experience among students. This learning environment inside a bus allows student to become more open-minded and to develop different aspects of what science is all about. The BioBus is something I would love to be involved again. It felt very comfortable having lectures in the bus unlike a classroom that makes me feel tired and bored. The BioBus was different from any science I ever took because I never really got to us such fun technology that provided the taste of what scientist do on their daily bases while completing research.
Overall, even though I had a great learning experience throughout the BioBus, it still doesn’t change the fact that I am not interested in science as much as I wish I did. In general I just never liked science, I was never great at science throughout my whole learning career. Though I would say that the study of Environmental Science did change the way I felt about science in general due to the fact that there is are specific science that involve great studies and research that can lead to helping out your environment and maybe the whole world. Probably if the BioBus was a daily learning experience then it might have impacted on what I though about science and determining if I wanted to become a scientist. I think it all depends on what type of science I learn about, maybe learning about all type of science will change my mind in so many levels and mind blow me enough to keep on doing it for the rest of my life.
The BioBus was very unique. I personally never heard of the BioBus, so having the opportunity of getting to know the BioBus and having the chance to be a part of it for one day was fascinating. My experience of the BioBus was different from all of my of my ordinary science classes because it wasn’t in a classroom; it was in a bus and I got to use scientific tools that I’m not used to use every day. The BioBus helped me view science is different lenses.
ReplyDeleteWhat I really liked about the BioBus is that it is a unique educational space where anyone with or without knowledge of science can learn some type of science. Whether it is learning how to use a microscope or learn how trout are indicative species. Furthermore, the Biobus can also change one’s view of science into a positive one. For example, an individual can dislike science and once they have the experience with the BioBus they can like science. The scientist that work in the BioBus aren’t the type of scientist that only work in laboratories and focus on experiments which shocked me because I thought scientists were always researching experiments and wearing goggles. The BioBus helped expand my knowledge of trout. Before I just knew that trout are indicative species but now I know that newborn trout are called Alevin and they feed themselves by the nutrients of the egg. Thanks to the BioBus I know more about trout.
My experience in the Bio bus was fantastic. it was really exciting to be able to see the Trout at a close view by using microscopes to be able to see specific details of their bodie's,which it incredible because you could see the heart pummping and breathing fast . Also when we zoom in you can see the their eyes and mouth , we also got to see at close view at Daphnia which it was cool because i learned that they only have one eye and their whole body is made of blood. the Bio bus is really fun to learnded science but it didnt chance my mind about being a scientists. The Bio bus is original because they take science to another level which it make it so interesting to learned , i think that the Bio bus is way better than the lab in a classroom because they travel to different places to teach science .

What I learned this week about the NYC water delivery system is that we get are water from the Catskill and Delaware watershed and that and aqueduct is used to transport water from one place to another. I also learned that a reservoir is an artificial lake used to store water just in case that water is ever needed for example if we run out of water or are running low on water which will be rare if it ever happens because when it rains it would just continue so the water would continue filling up. I also learned that watersheds are an area or region drained by a river, river system or other body of water. I also learned that NYC water is so clean that we don't need to filter it but some of us don’t even trust that. I also learned that present water systems was consolidated from the various water systems in communities.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard of the BioBus, my initial reaction was to think that it was pretty unique in a sense. The BioBus is a new concept that I never heard of in my life whatsoever, so learning about this served as a new experience for myself. Hopefully that was the same for the rest of my peers.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think about science, I usually envision laboratories, textbooks, goggles, and lab coats. Although many of those thoughts are true, the BioBus allowed for me to witness a different approach on science. This type of science is informal and creative. I learned that the BioBus uses reusable resources like vegetable oil as a source of fuel. They also have a garden on the roof top to help provide heat since plants take in the sun’s energy and they have certain devices to help produce electricity; that is what makes the bus power up. These clever ways of using our resources and being ecofriendly is what makes the BioBus sustainable and a good help for our planet.
Besides being ecofriendly, the BioBus provides for students along with other individuals to get a hands-on experience towards science. Inside the bus, there are multiple telescopes that are available for use. These telescopes are very advanced and allow for you to see things you wouldn’t normally be able to see with the naked eye. For example, while on the BioBus, the instructor showed us a Daphnia under a microscope. What I saw completely amazed me. I saw the organs of the Daphnia, its blood stream, its eye ball. It was literally creepy yet fascinating. We also learned that like Trout, the Daphnia is also an indicator species. They are very sensitive to sudden changes in the water and we were able to see that when the instructor dropped a bit of alcohol into the dish where the Daphnia was placed. Since the microscopes were so advanced, we were able to zoom into the Daphnia and watch its reaction towards the alcohol.
Throughout the experience, I thought that the BioBus was really cool. I don’t really like science in general and I have no idea why that is. However, the BioBus showed me that science isn’t all lab and coats. Science can be exploring, inquiring, figuring out, solving, etc. and THAT is something that interests me. I was able to learn about Daphnia and Trout without sitting in class looking at a slide show and that is exactly what made this experience beneficial and easier to grasp.
The BioBus experience was very interesting. The BioBus was very interesting because it was so eco-friendly. The bus looks really small from the outside but the inside is very big. The BioBus runs on solar energy from plants or a windmill that charges eight batteries the bus has. This experience really change my mind about science because I’ve always loved science ,its always been my favorite subject. I think the idea of the BioBus traveling to different schools is very cool because it teaches kids that science isn't boring and that it can be more than just looking into a microscope. The BioBus was a wonderful experience because we actually got to see the animals alive , not like before we always seen the animal dead on a slide or its cells.
ReplyDeleteThe BioBus sort of changed my mind on scientist because I Thought scientist kind of look through the microscope the same way we did at school. But I notice is more than that. They actually have more advanced tools that can help them see and learn more about a specific species or animal. Those microscopes were amazing we got to see the yolk sac were the trout gets most of its food and we also got to see his heart. I would consider being a scientist but it all depends on the type of science because I love the experiments and the mixing of chemicals.
This experience of the BioBus kind of did impact my relationship in knowing more about the trout because i got to see the where the trout gets its food. I also got to see the trouts blood and some cells. It’s very cool how the trout feeds itself from the yolk sack until its fully grown. I also learned that before the trout is known as a trout is baby name is Alevin.

ReplyDeleteThis week I had a brief hands on experience in Environmental Science because of the BioBus. I was able to learn and focus on Daphnia and Trout Aleein, organisms that were similar when looking at them using a microscope. However, I did not feel that the BioBus had much of an impact on me because I do not constantly conduct research in there and just one day does not make a difference.
ReplyDeleteBased on the experience I had in the BioBus, I noticed that it was an experience unlike any other science class but it reminded me mostly about Living Environment, a class that I did not enjoy. During my time in the BioBus, I looked at Daphnia and Trout Aleein which are indicator species which means that their job is to indicate the quality of the water in which they live. In my time on the bus, when looking at Daphnia I looked at specific organs such as the eye the embryos, and the shell. The eye looked like a small blob of gelatin, the embryos looked like three eggs paired together, and the shell looked like a border whereas inside you can see that Daphnia had an open circulatory system. On the other hand Trout Aleein had a yolk sack which made me imply that it has a closed circulatory system just like humans and this sack takes about a week to go away. In addition, the bloodstream of a Trout Aleein has a vine like shape and Trout Aleein does not have a compound eye like Daphnia, so in this case its eye looks like a human’s eye. Participating in the BioBus was different and made me realize that the reason I like science is not because of the facts, but because of the things that one observes. This means that I believe knowing the truth about tested things is alright but discovering new things about the known is better than anything else. This experience made me think differently about what scientists do because I noticed they have to take time to examine things based on prior and learned knowledge but there will always be an error which makes think that if I decide to major in a science field, the same will happen to me.
The experience I had in the BioBus made me realize that I might have a relationship with trout. This is because trout determines water quality and I drink water because it is essential to my life. Another reason is because I know facts about trout but am not done learning about them. Undoubtedly, the BioBus didn’t affect my mentality but Daphnia and Trout did.
My experience in the BioBus was nothing that I expected. I honestly expected a group of scientists explaining to us about cells and how they functioned but incredibly enough it was far more interesting and amazing than that. The BioBus completley changed the way I thought scientist appeared and acted at first i thought they would be old boring and very dull but the ones from the BioBus were intresting energetic and truly open minded. Under the microscope we all saw our classroom trouts on a large computer screen. They were fast and didn’t have a complete form yet. The trout had very black eyes and a tiny little fin. They would open their mouths and we saw their little heart. I also learned about the Daphnia which is a species that trout love to eat. Daphnias are very tiny and hard to see. We also got to take pictures of the trout. The trout I was observing was orange and has big black eyes. It would constantley move around and try to swim off when I was trying to take a picture of it. The Biobus was very ecofriendly. It runs on oil which is pretty cool because I thought cars only ran on gasoline. The bus also had plants on the top of the bus which is pretty cool. Its actually amazing that the Biobus was found on craiglist and redesigned by the scientist. Its pretty admiring that there are people in the world who are willing to teach children and teens like us about science not only for pay but because of their passion towards science. Little things like that make such a positive impact in the world. It changes the way we view things and observe things in the outside world. The Biobus was a truly blessing expiernce because just like not everyone in the world has water not everyone in the world have technology and tools that can teach them new things about living species. This expiernce has made me look forward to watching the trout grow everyday in class. If I could go on the biobus again I would definitely do it again.
ReplyDeleteThe BioBus experience was great, I used the microscope and saw how the trouts were moving around. This experience was different from other science classes because in other science class I had the oppourtunity to use tbe microscope but it wasn't really fun, and it didn't look 3D and big like it did in the BioBus microscope. The BioBus didn't really change my way of thinking of science, I just thought it was really cool to see that in the bus that their was my microscope. You could get an experience about science. No it didn't really change my mind about what scientist do because scientist use different vaiarites of microscopes. No I won't like to become a scientist because it's just something I don't like even though it's something that goes with my future career. I could see many parts of the trouts and how the heart move as well their yoks, and embryos.
ReplyDeleteThe BioBus was something really different for me. It was different because it was a mini lab packed up into a bus and the closest I've been to a "lab" could be a science class. Just because it was different doesn't mean it was a unpleasant moment, it was actually really inspiring in a way. In a way that I've had the kind of mindset where a science lab has to be really sophisticated and, in a big area with highly new technology when it wasn't even close to that but still sheds light that it's a science lab and many discoveries can be found in there. What was the most intriguing to me during the BioBuss was how we zoomed in, like really really lose to the Daphnia. We saw its cells, eyes, organs, embryos, intestines and many more stuff about it. Because of that I learned that there are such things as organisms can have a open circulatory system, which I did not know.
ReplyDeleteThe BioBus has changed my first impression of scientist and science. I always believed scientist would be boring people who aren't very social but seeing how funny and cool the scientist were during the BioBus and how they made their work fun has changed my first impression of then and science overall.
Thanks to the experience of the Biobus I now know more about trouts. I learned how their eggs look like and that they eat their eggs after hatching as food and nutrients and that it takes at least a week to eat it all up. Also that new born trouts are called Alevin.

1) My experience in the biobus was diffent as i expected becaus i thought there would dident be as much space but when i went inside every one fitted in the bus had there own station for each group.
ReplyDelete2)Yes the biobus made me think about science diffently because i used to think science wasent for me and i will never be good at it but the biobus made me think diffent about science and how you can make sience a fun subject.
3)The biobus made me think diffently about scientists because i thought they never have time for nothing but study but the biobus change my mined about them and how they have time to show us about sience.
4) Would I be a sientist no because i dont find a connection with me and sience.
5)Something i now know about sience is the when trouts or babys they dont need to go looking for food because there food is there egg that they hach from .

My BioBus experience was great because it showed me the potential that anyone has to make a scientific contribution to the world. This bus was eco-friendly from its green roof down to its wind turbine. At first I thought that this bus wasn't anything extraordinary because it was a bit outdated on the outside with the exception of the wind turbine and solar panels. However, the inside of this bus blew my mind because of the advanced technology inside of it. The microscopes in that bus were the most powerful microscopes I had ever seen and I was astounded by the fact that I could see the organs of microorganisms like Daphnia. Once I saw the heart of this organism beat I felt a strong connection to science and I suddenly became curious. I wanted to ask an infinite amount of questions. The idea that anyone could study an organism tinier than one of my eyelashes with accuracy was no longer fiction. It was reality. I have had science classes where experiments were uninteresting because they did not show me how the experiment was relevant to the world today. However, the BioBus was different because I saw living organisms under a powerful microscope instead of onion skin under a weak light microscope. Experimenting on a living subject allowed me to see how the organs function and the technology on that bus was what made science more interesting for me.
ReplyDeleteI have always enjoyed science, but the BioBus reinforced my love of science because it showed me how actual scientists, like Ben and his co-workers, use their knowledge of science to solve real life problems and generate alternative energy. What really stuck in my mind from my experience with the BioBus was when Ben told the class that scientists like him are waiting for younger generations to create new batteries that weigh less and absorb more energy. This made me think that my classmates and I are the future of science and if we don't appreciate science we won't be able to solve the increasing number of problems facing our world today. The BioBus made me consider becoming a scientist for a moment, but I don't think I will become a scientist. However, I think that if I ever save up a large amount of money I might invest in new technology so that future generations can enjoy science as much as I have.
The BioBus also taught me a lot about trout. With the microscopes on the BioBus I learned that trout have a yolk sack that they get all of their nutrients from. It is as if these trout have a back up food supply inside of them that allows them to feed themselves until they are old enough to search for food on their own. The technology on this bus allowed me to see this yolk sack with my own eyes and because of that I believe that technology and science go hand in hand with one another. If public schools had more funding for scientific technology more students would learn to appreciate science.
The BioBus does a great job of inspiring students to pursue scientific careers but I think it needs the help of students to continue to inspire others. Should students hold fundraisers in their schools to purchase new science equipment? Should educators create new interactive experiments that embrace today's technology? Should students create their own versions of the BioBus, like a BioBookbag or a BioNotebook, to make science class a more pleasurable experience for them?
The science lab on wheels, Cell Motion BioBus. My experience in the BioBus was absolutely amazing! Although I was only in the BioBus for around an hour for one day, I feel as though the experience I gained was truly terrific.
ReplyDeleteThe experience I had in the BioBus was really distinct from other science class experiences I have had before. In a regular science class, you are normally placed in a room with around twenty students or so and one teacher. With a school like WHEELS, we don’t always have the resources we need for science class. For example, a microscope, lab coats, goggles and gloves for lab use for each individual student, and even normal science stools and desks. And in the BioBus, we were able to split up the class so that we were in a smaller group with more teachers. The groups were around ten students, and we had a BioBus instructor and our regular teacher. Just the fact that the class was smaller was better, because I felt as though I was comfortable enough to ask questions if I had them.
I also enjoyed the fact that we were able to have hands on experiences and not just a lecture. Before we got on the bus, the instructor gave us a brief history of the bus and what they do. Although it felt a bit like a lecture, it was interesting to me because I learned cool facts that I did not know before. For example, the fact that regular cars use gasoline to run, and gasoline is a source that we can eventually run out of if we over use it. However, the BioBus does not use gasoline to run, they use waste from restaurants and garbage people want to get rid of. I actually did not know this was possible, I thought all cars and buses needed gasoline to run. But apparently that is not true, and that’s good because now I know when I have a car someday, I can be a sustainable driver. I will not need to spend loads of money on gasoline like my father always does, but instead I will get waste which will come for free because people want to get rid of garbage as soon as possible. I can even gain some money because sometimes people are willing to pay others to get rid of their waste, so I can gain a profit with my car. On the other hand, it was also fun to see the trouts under the microscope. We have the trouts in our classroom, but it is challenging to take a peek because everyone always wants to look at it at the same time. In the BioBus, we were able to take turns observing the trouts and even adjusting it to see what we individually wanted to see.
Although the BioBus was a wonderful experience, it did not change my view of science, but rather it did enforce it. Science is not just about making experiments and writing lab reports. Science is about encompassing all other subjects with the real world. It’s about knowing your history, to read, learn and relate your data to the real world.
Ever since I can remember, science has always been my strongest subject and my favorite! Being on the BioBus, just proved to me that I really love science and the career I want is the right choice. Scientists search and experiment, but I rather use my knowledge of science and apply it to real individuals. That is why I feel as though I cannot be a scientist, but I can be a neurosurgeon. I can continue learning about medicine, and operate on patients to save their lives.
At the beginning of this week our trout eggs hatched this was great especially since the biobus was coming because we going to look at them under the microspores the biobus has. I first saw the Biobus on the way into school, my first reaction was it an old school bus remodeled. Then during second period I had the chance to go out and see then buss with more time. I noticed the solar panels, the wind turbine, the plants on the roof and the white painted roof. The Biobus truly puts out it message by serving as an example of substitutability using wind and solar energy, storing it in batteries to be as eco-friendly as they could be.
ReplyDeleteThe inside of the Biobus was divided into two sections the front and back, I was first at the back of the bus. Here we used a microscopes to view things around us like our coats and skin in about 40 times zoom. This was cool and gave me a new perspective on things, that made me think about all the small things that come together to make up everything around us even us. After this we used another microscope to look a dafnia which are like trout indicator species from Central park. We then had a small experiment to see how much toxic water affected the dafnia. First we counted the amount of beats of a dafnia in 30 seconds then added a diluted toxic to it and saw that the heartbeat slowed downed after the toxin was added. Which is why dafnia is a good indicator species because it need specific conditions to survive. Another cool thing about dafnia that we found out was that there completely transparent so we were able to see all of its organs. Similar to the back of the bus at the front of the bus we used microscopes but this time we looked at our trout, and saw how it was and still feed from it egg sack. Viewing at all these animals under the microscopes made me enjoy science even more because I was able to look at things with a completely new perspective. That was different then in an actual classroom where we have to learn things, but the Biobus promotes science as something fun thats not a drag but as something that is used to understand the world around us and how it functions.
My Experience on the Bio Bus was very interesting.I had a great time learning about the Daphnia and our own baby trout that we learned that it is called a Alvin.I learn many great things about the indicator species and is one of the trouts main food sources. The Bio Bus had these microscope and we got to check out the organs of the both species witch I also found cool. When i go to look at other microscopes, i would see a dead cell but got to see a living specie and got to see how the Delphinia react when it near alcohol was also interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou can say that the Bio Bus change my opinion about science.I figures that scientist just stood in labs and collect data. But the Bio bus travels around the city.It thought us that science is actually fun.
This particular week stimulated my interests in science, this is true because not only did we get to see actual science tools, but actually saw the tools being used and worked with to see small creatures and their features which are normally too small to see with the human eye. Thanks to the BioBus, the grade was able to closely examine Trout and Daphnia (planktonic crustaceans), which under some environmental circumstances live in the same habitat. Ultimately, this lesson shows the mission of the BioBus, to help children and students be aware and be more productive towards science topics. To many, science seemed to be too difficult and monotonous to pay attention to, but after living the exciting experience of the BioBus, it made many individuals to start noticing the interesting parts of science and the fun part of it too.
ReplyDeleteAt first, my idea of scientists was originally envisioned as people who were in lab coats and goggles who experiment to find cures for known diseases, this idea for me is now gone as scientists are people who can observe anything and help people understand things that the world didn't know. Now my idea of those people who are working towards a science major in college became more positive as now they aren't people caved in a lab, but they can travel anywhere and teach to their enjoyment. Being a part of this group is actually a pretty enticing idea as now in my opinion many won’t be drawn away from a science major, at first I wasn't worried about science being a hard difficult topic because I always found science to be a broad topic to learn about. To my coincidence we reviewed a topic about aquatic animals; to me it made me be more tugged into becoming a marine biologist because ironically enough I love seeing aquatic sea creatures be safe as they are a major part of our ecosystem and food chain. This makes me want to discover why animals such as trout go to fresh water to spawn and not stay in salt water in the oceans.
Overall this experience made me wonder how much does science actually influence the world, I mean having microscopes and other technological advances broke the limits of how much we can observe and analyze, making me wonder how much can humanity learn in the next decade or so. Having Trout is not only a fantastic idea about teaching individuals how these creatures evolved over time, but a great motive that drives young scientists to learn more about this creature. Once extinct in the Bronx River, is now thriving and being a native creature which makes me understand even more how to survive. From the hatchery in the class we can speculate that this animal feeds off a “sack” full of proteins that help them develop while they are younglings.
For me the bio bus was diffrent from any other science class because I never took science befored in a bio bus I didnt know you could even have a class in a bio bus it was reeally cool how they had space and stuff to show us in the bio bus and give us lesson just like if we was in regular class. For me the bio bus didnt make me think diffrent about science because in bio bus they teach the samething as if you was in regular class just that here you in a bus so is less space. I like science but no i wouldnt consider myself being a scientist because you gotta do alot of stuff to prove people why their information is right and just gotta do alot of stuff to figure out stuff. Like the bio bus got me excited to learn more other stuff and know how they work and why.

In my opinion, the interacion witht the biobus really interesting. It made me see how intersting science really is. Even though i had thought about majoring in science for college it has come back to my mind that i might take classes in this field. This is important for me because it made science class ineresting and more involved in to projects. This also fit prefectly with me because me, knowing my self I love inventing and finding new things to play around with. Im a very curious and this experience made me feel at one with all this technology. This helped influence my knowlegde about trouts because it helped me look in what trouts are really about and how they act in different enviorment. This also relates when we went fishing because I go very into fishing and the excitement that gets within me. Hope we can have more experiences liek these and fishing.
ReplyDeleteMy experience on the biobus was great. This was very different from any other science experiences I had because it was way better. It was fun to use the microscope to see the trouts closer. The biobus made me think differently about science because it is much more interesting than I thought it would be. There were many details that we got to see with the microscope. I wouldn't consider becoming a scientist because I am interested in other things. This experience helped me learn more about the trout. I learned about the body parts and how it gets food. Now I know more than I used to know.
ReplyDeleteThis week on Environmental Science the BioBus came to visit. I first heard of the BioBus and what they do on a video shown in class. I learned in that video the BioBus goes around schools promoting science and trying to make students engage and appreciate science for what it is. To do this the scientists from the BioBus lets students interact with the equipment like microscopes to show students the small things around them.
ReplyDeleteWhen the BioBus came to our school, I didn’t know if it was real or not and I was having a moment of awe. Then we had a discussion about the BioBus and its methods of going green. The bus is equipped with 4 solar panels and a wind turbine to use as an energy gatherer and store the energy on batteries. It also had grass on its roof in order to keep the bus cool and avoid turning on the air conditioner during hot days. Afterwards we divided as two groups on going in the back and the other on the front of the bus. I was sent to the back first and our group looked at random things on a 40x microscope to see the little things around us. Also using the same 40x microscope we looked at daphnia and measured its heart rate before and after applying a toxin. When we finished in the back of the bus we moved on to the front and looked at our very own trout that have hatched. In this stage they were called alevin since they still weren’t eating actual food but instead were eating their yolk sack. We looked at the different body parts of the trout and a particular part that caught my attention was the blood cells flowing through its veins. I zoomed in closely towards that and you could see the tiny blood cells moving through the alevin’s body. We also took pictures of the alevin eating and noticed the shape of its mouth and motion while it eats.
Overall the experience I had in the BioBus was phenomenal. It really got me more interested in science than I already was. I found interesting what you could do in such tight space and equipment. I think whoever steps in the BioBus no matter what background of science will enjoy themselves and learn something new.
The Bio Bus was one of the best scientific experiences I’ve had in a long time! The same can safely be said about the people who have also been on the Bio Bus. It’s such a fun hands-on that can bring even the most well-known scientists and the average high school science student together to one place and have fun performing many different science experiments. The Bio Bus takes the high school idea of “boring” and “unnecessary” science and turns it into an experience that will be unforgettable. It’s different than anything else I have ever done because I never thought I would have the opportunity to encounter that type of science equipment, (with all due respect) I got used to the quality of the equipment we have in wheels. Now that I got a peek at a scientists real environment I have a clearer view of the fun it is to be a scientists, the ability to discover is placed in your hands. The BioBus was an overall motivation for me and it taught me that science is fun if you do your part and make the best of it. Also, the people in the BioBus made everything very clear to me so there weren’t many questions that I needed to ask and the way they taught the group about the microscopes and the Daphnia was very interesting, fun, interactive, and clear. Furthermore I was astonished about the components that were attached to the bus to make it a more environmentally supportive mobile lab. The BioBus and everything about it is awesome!
ReplyDeleteIn Environmental science the class was learning about Aqueduct, Reservoir, and Watershed and the 3 main source where NYC get it clean fresh water. Aqueduct, is Latin for water (aqua) and latin for (ductus). Aqueductus (aqueduct) is a water channel, most of them are under ground. Reservoir is an artificial lake used to store water. Created by the construction of a dam or excavation into the ground. Water is when all of the water under or on top of an area of land that drains into into the same place. Dams, reservoirs, tunnels and aqueduct that carry 1.3 billon gallons of water each day. The new Croton is one sources that NYC gets it water form. The new Croton aqueduct was built 1885 and 1890 it is 31 miles long. The Croton supplies 10% of drinking water to New York City. Catskills and Delaware were constructed between 1937 and 1945. They also provide between 50 and 80 percent of New York City's daily water demand. Over 37 millions gallons per day escape from two leaks its also 84 miles long. Other thing we learned in class was how does the water go form lake and rivers to get to your house as fresh clean water.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised at all the different things i didn't know about the New York City water system. It amazing how we get our own water and the way that its recycled. I never thought of how we received the water we drink and use for different things everyday.Depending where you may live in depends where you get your water. Before during the industrialization period we used to get our water from a pond that had was contaminated with all the waste and air pollution of factories leading to the making of aqueducts and reservoirs. With out these too inventions we wouldn't be able to survive because every living thing needs water.
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say about the BioBus, an adventure with pure excitement bus. This is the first time I have ever heard and seen the BioBus. Once you have your eyesight’s with the bus, you will start wondering and asking questions. In high school, science wasn’t giving me that much of excitement because of biology. But once we started to have earth science and chemistry, science started to become more of my favorite subjects. But with the BioBus it has just turned environmental science more interesting. Even though I feel like it was a way to say now environmental science its better than other sciences classes. I still had that feeling after the first month of the school year because it makes us focus more of our surroundings and the world. But with this experience it hasn’t changed my mind from other science classes because I’m always expecting something different for science class no matter what. But once I have gone inside the bus, it just expanded my mind with more questions to ask and to think more about my career. With other science classes we had experiments that were actually exciting to try like the flame test in chemistry. I liked most of the experiments that I worked in the past but with BioBus it was more realistic and trying it with the new technology being used. Like instead of only seeing from a microscope through the lenses, it could be seen in bigger screens. The BioBus was using the technology of today and to make science a subject more interesting to learn about.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of the high school science wasn’t my favorite but as time passed by it turned to my second favorite class. But with the BioBus experience science it still the same. My mind hasn’t changed much about science because I know in science it’s fun, but with fun experiences needs a lot of knowledge. I might be good at the class sometimes but most of the times it’s hard for me to understand, but I’m still able to understand most of the work. Science might be a career that I’m willing to take but the problem is the amount of time and dedication for majoring science. Because most of the time I hear from scientists is a lot of advanced vocabulary and most of the times I see scientists staying in small rooms for hours making observations that would last for hours. Even though most of the times would mean doing that for the rest of your life it would be great but not what I really want to do. I want to work on experiments but needs a lot of background knowledge before actually doing the experiment.
But the BioBus hasn’t only made me have an interest in science but I learned more about the trout. The foods nutrients they eat for the trout’s to keep them developed. The trout’s also have this pattern in the sides and moves really quick. The BioBus was exciting with much of the information given to us. If you ever hear the BioBus don’t doubt has only a ‘bus’ but as the bus of science and its environment.

ReplyDeleteMy BioBus experience was really awesome. Once I walked into the bus, I was amazed at how big the bus is inside. The bus was provided with lots of science equipment and had lots of space for lots of people to sit around. What I loved about the BioBus is that we actually saw our trouts up close in a microscope and we actually saw it alive, breathing and formed well, it was really crazy! In other science courses, we have seen objects up close in microscopes, but I feel as if in this course, everything comes alive to us and this is an awesome way for us the students to learn about the lessons our teacher is trying to see us. Not only should we be taught lectures verbally, but we should also have the chance to see things we are learning about visually.
ReplyDeleteThe BioBus really made me think different about science. It made me think that science might be boring for others, but if you actually put interest into the lectures we learn, you will definitely get to love science. Science is a way you can learn what’s going on around your environment and that is how I felt when I left the BioBus. When I saw that I was able to see things with my own eyes under a microscope, I really felt a strong interest towards science. I have always had an interest towards science, but this time I felt stronger sense once I left the BioBus.
The BioBus did not help me think about differently about scientists. I’ve always known that scientists had an interesting job and this is one of the ways to keep themselves really entertained in their job. I feel as if scientists have a fun job discovering and experimenting new things. Not a lot of people have the same job as scientists; therefore scientists should always cherish their career because they should feel very special that they have the opportunity of discovering brand new things and spread the idea out to the individuals in the world.
I really love science, and along with that I love math as well. Therefore, the career that fits with me is nursing in which I’m really interested in studying. To be honest, I’ve never thought of being a scientist in the future. I really don’t have anything against being a scientist, but I’ve always thought negative of studying courses that had to do with being a scientist. In other words, I’ve always thought that if I ever studied the courses that have to do with being a scientist, I’ve thought that I would easily give up. Basically, that’s what backs me up and that’s the reason why I’ve been focusing to studying another career, like nursing.
Overall, this BioBus experience really impacted my relationship towards the trouts because in class we all saw the trouts so tiny and I personally wanted to see more action happening from the trouts. Once I saw the trouts under a microscope, I really got to discover how awesome they are, how fast they are, and how big are their eyes, too. We also got to see their skin, blood vessels, heart and its rate, and many other things. Honestly, I really enjoyed visiting the BioBus and I hope moments like this can be able to repeat during our senior year.
My experience on the bio bus was very interesting and educating.I really liked the idea of not having to be inside a class room to exactly see things closely like how I got to look at a trout threw a microscope. Before I have used microscope to look at cells but in the Bio Bus it was way better to look threw the microscope because it involved more technology since there was a screen you could of seen the trout more detail.Something else that was interesting was that although the Bio Bus has many technology it actually uses natural resources to function its self like the wind panel to give energy was really interesting. Also, something else that called my attention was that the Bio Bus had plants in the roof which really grabbed my attention because I never really seen plants on a vehicle that are actually growing there. Having this experience on the Bio Bus actually calls my attention to in the future focus myself more on science because I always liked science. The Bio Bus also made me realize about how scientist really can use both technology and natural resources and combine it in one to less affect the environment or world. Before I have consider to be a scientist for the fact that I like dealing with chemical things and doing experiments they really call my attention but right now I'm still debating. Overall science is a powerful subject because it affects our daily life.
ReplyDeleteThis week we got to go inside of the bio bus. We got to use the microscopes on the bus to see a daphnia and one of our trout closer. This allowed us to see the cells of the two organisms in ways we wouldn’t ordinarily be able to. It was an amazing experience, which changed the way I see our trout. This class was different from any other class because I never got to see the cells of a living organism on a microscope.
ReplyDeleteThe bio bus didn’t change the way I see science. I have always seen science as something thing that gives you a better perspective on how the world works. Neither did it change what I think scientists do I always expect scientist to do great things. That is why I have considered being a scientist before. Every time I have seen a scientist they have done nothing short of amaze me. I want to be able to do the same. The bio bus allowed me to see the wide range of things that can be done with microscopes.
The bio bus let me see how interesting our trout really are. Before I couldn’t even see the fins on them. Now I know how their bodies really look like. I even got see to see the cells of trout and the forming patterns that adult trout have. I am exciting to see our trout grow.
Last week we had the BioBus visit our school. The BioBus is kind of like a science lab on wheels that is completely eco-friendly because it uses renewable sources of energy like solar energy and wind energy. It was different than when other visitors have came to our science classes because they had us doing hands-on work. Usually, when scientists have visited us they have us reading or listening as they talk to us about what they do, but this time they were showing us what they do and making us do the same thing. I've always loved science and it's always been my favorite subject in school especially because it's a lot of hands-on work. Therefore, the BioBus helped to further enrich my already-existing love for science. Even though it didn't really change the way that I think about science, it did change the way that I think about scientists. I never even thought much about scientists or how they act but now I know that some scientists are kind and not interested in money, but rather in spreading their love for science with others. Since the BioBus is a non-profit organization, you can tell that they would rather focus on making science instead of making money. This does indeed influence me to want to become a scientist because it shows me that a future career does not have to be just so I can make money. Since science is something that I am passionate about, I know that I shouldn't let money stop me from doing something that I love.
ReplyDeleteThat scientists that came on the BioBus have taught a lot more about our trout than we already knew. For example, I kept thinking that our trout was dead because they were motionless every time I looked inside the tank. But after looking at them through the microscopes I found out they're actually not dead or motionless. They're just sitting there in the water eating their yolk sacks because they're still babies, so there isn't much they can do, yet.
Overall, it was really great having the BioBus visit our school and I'm really thankful that they came. It was definitely a one of a kind experience because i'm sure I will never see anything else like the BioBus. I hope one day the BioBus comes back to wheels so we can observe the trout under the microscopes because it's cool to see how their bodies are developing.
My experience on the bio bus was great because it made science more interesting to lean. It made me think about all the experiments that can be done on the bi bus and the kind of results that could be affected because of the environment the experiment is happening in. I believe that kids can have fun on the bi bus due to the fact that it can be fun. Learning on a bus just like in a every day classroom.

My experience on the Biobus was a lot of fun. It was fun because I feel like science in general more interesting. I think that with all the work on the microscopes that we did on the bus was amazing. I been on microscopes in the past but not as intense as these. These I feel like was much closer into the organism. All the information we learned also, like how the Daphnia reacts to its environments changes, how it got male and female parts, how it has a compound eye. Also, the Daphnia dies from chemicals, it eats bacteria and how they don't have a brain. They are the prey towards the Trout. All of this information was very interesting. This was different from any other science classes or anything related to it because this was much more interesting, I'm not saying science isn't interesting is that I think classes should be taught like this because I feel like this it'll keep the students more interested into what they are learning. Out of what I noticed while we were on the Biobus everyone was really interested into what the scientists were saying. So basically, if I had classes like this for science it'll be better for me. I also thought differently about science because after learning about Trout and Daphnia and how interesting and important they are. I thought to myself imagine learning about other organisms or other things around the world. Science could actually be more interesting to what I thought it was.

my experience on the bio bus was interesting because it made me be more interested in science then I was before. The experiment we did in the bio bus first with the Daphnia we zoomed in with a special microscope. We looked at all the different part of the Daphnia what I found interesting was that the Daphnia doesn't have any veins the blood just flows and we were able to see it flowing. Then we looked at the Trout. What I found interesting was that at the stage there in which is the alvine they can not eat food so they have this yolk where they just eat that. The bio bus made me see science more differently now because it made see how realistic animals can look.I would love to be a scientist now after seeing all the things I saw. After this experience it made me want to study some sort of thing that has to do with science.

My experience on the BioBus was both fun and interesting. It was different from other science classes/experiences I have had because it was informal and it involved using equipment that we usually don’t use and have access to. It was also different because it involved scientist who looked like they truly have a passion for what they do. The actually setting of this experience was also different because it was in a bus that can actually be transported from place to place. The BioBus didn’t really make me thing differently about science because I already knew these types of things were done in the field of science such as taking closer looks at species. Although this experience didn’t make me think differently about science it did make me think differently about what scientists do because I didn’t know scientist did engaging things such as interacting with teenagers, I imagined them doing independent work in laboratories. I haven’t considered becoming a scientist because it is not a field that I ever thought about pursuing although science can be very interesting at times especially when it is connected to the real world with topics like global warming. My interaction with the BioBus scientist didn’t have any influence on my consideration of becoming a scientist although these individuals look like they really enjoy their job and are very interested in the field of science. This experience has impacted my relationship and what I know about trout because it gave me a closer look at what trout really look like and it helped me be more familiarized with their parts such as the yoke sack which is what nourishes them during their stage of being an Alevin which is what they are called when they are young.
ReplyDeleteMy experience in the BioBus was both fun and instructional because I got to learn about the Trouts and by doing it we use microscopes which I found fun to do. The BioBus was a very different experience for me because I've never seen the BioBus and it was fun to experience. The BioBus did make me think about science because it made me realize that we are all scientist and that we can all help in many ways to help preserve our enviorment. For example , the BioBus instructors told us that one way they help preserve enviorment by making the bus they travel on green , what I mean is that the use reusable energy in order to save energy and and the use solar power energy. After this experience i still wont consider my self to be a scientist because science is still not something that i see in my life after im done with school. This experience has helped me understand the trout and the significant purpose they have to contribute to their enviorment.
ReplyDeleteMy experience in the Bio bus was better than I had expected. I had worked with microscopes in some of my former science classes but the way we worked with them on the Bio Bus was a lot more different and interesting. I liked the fact that everyone was able to see what was being displayed through the lenses of the microscope on the screen because that prevented people from fussing over who got to see through the microscope and who didn't. The Bio Bus didn't change my opinion on science because I already knew I liked science and I knew that whatever I was going to do on the Bio Bus I was going to like it. It wasn't monotonous at all for myself because I enjoy learning and discovering new things about whatever it may be. However, the Bio Bus did make me think differently about what scientists do and how they conduct experiments. I found it so interesting how they can spend so much time really exploring a topic and researching about an organism so miniature such as the Daphnia that we examined. It made me realize how much time, effort and patience you need to have in order to be a scientist. This is why, as much as I enjoy science and all its content, I could not see myself becoming a scientist. I do not have much patience when researching a specific topic and not being able to finding what I'm looking for right away. I also get bored after staying on one topic for such a long time and then I lose interest in the whole project therefore the amount of effort that I put in would also diminish. This experience also made me realize that there is science everywhere you go in nature and one might not take the time to acknowledge and appreciate each little aspect of it like a scientist does. That also made me have more appreciation for fish, like our trout in the classroom, because without them a lot of habitats, food chains, and the environment as a whole would be incomplete.
ReplyDeleteMy BioBus experience was really unique and awesome! This experience gave me a more funner perspective on science. The way the bus was created was really unique and I was in shocked because I've never seen a bus with grass on the roof top. Also this experience was unique in the way that I've used microscopes before in class, but never seen actual Alevins on a bus. Throughout my school career, I've always had a positive perspective on science. In all my science classes I always did good and showed interest. The BioBus didn't really change my perspective on science but it just gave a more fun point of view. It's amazing how science can be done anywhere and not at an actual professional science lab. Although I've always done good and shown interest, science is not something I would like to master in. I favor and prefer other things like human services instead. With being in the BioBus, I was able to gain more knowledge on trouts. I learned that baby trouts were called Alevins and while these trouts are Alevins get their food through the yoksack. Furthermore, that they are considered indicator specie because they can indicate the quality of the water.
ReplyDeleteMy experience in the Bio Bus was very surprising because of all the methods they have on the bus in order to receive energy without effecting the environmental pollution. This experience was different from other science classes because first, we met actual scientists that were trying to help the environment. Also, when I stepped in the bus I used new scientific tools for example the microscope to look at Alewife’s and Trouts. Yes, because the first thing that enters the mind the mind when I was on the BioBus and saw the roof of the bus attracting energy and all the microscopes is science. Yes, because sure we know the regular everyday jobs of scientists but you never really know exactly what they do until you see them in action and watch them closely. No, because honestly science isn’t my best subject and I’m not really all that interested in science. But I do admire what the scientists do for our environment day in and day out. This experience impacted what I know about and my relationship with trout by teaching and showing me things I didn’t know trout had and can do, for example I learned that their an indicated species, meaning they tell you if the water is sustainable.
